Which rides are smooth for neck and back problems?

I know that I can't ride most of the rides in the parks. Can anyone suggest rides that would be fun but smooth, like I know I can ride on It's a small world after all. I'm in my 60's but can't be bounced or jerked around because of neck and back problems. Are there other rides that would be fun but safe for me?

Thanks Lene

Lene:

There are MANY rides that you would enjoy if you like the fantasy like rides! All of fantasyland in MK would work for you, Pirates of the Caribbean would be fine, it has one minor hill that is nothing, no jolts or anything to it, haunted mansion and of course the shows! MGM has many shows and the Great movie ride! The Animal Kingdom also has shows and you can pretty much do everything there except Dinosaur and maybe the water rapids ride. EPCOT, again, there are slower rides such as spaceship earth, stay away from test track and mission space. Don't miss honey I shrunk the audience though. You should be able to do the few rides they have in world showcase. I don't think Norway would cause you a problem, it has some small baby hills, kinda like pirates. There is plenty for you to do! Disney has a wide variety of shows every where that are spectacular, and they have the slow, relaxing rides too! You will have fun no matter!
Hope i have helped!

You'll be able to ride much more than what you think. That is the main reason why I choose to vacation at WDW instead of Six Flags or other roller coaster parks. I don't have health problems, I'm just chicken. When you go to the parks, get a park map. Each ride is listed & there is some kind of icon next to the rides you need to avoid.
It is easier to tell you what not to ride.
MK - the mountains
Epcot - Test Track, Mission Space(?), Body Wars
AK - Dinosaur, Safari, Primevel Whirl
MGM - Star Tours, Tower of terror, Rock'n Roller Coaster
That's all I can think of for now. There are many, many more rides that you can do.

thanks for reminding me that I can still do a lot of the rides. It has been 15 years since I have been to Disney and I could only remember a couple of smooth rides. I'm really looking forward to them. The last time my husband fooled me into getting on to a roller coaster and I didn't know it until it was too late....don't want that to happen this time!

Thanks Lene

I have back and neck problems and let me tell you that if you plan to ride the safari at AK, do not sit in the back! We seemed to be the ones who got bounced around the most. I survived, but if I ride it again, I will ask to be seated close to the front.

I don't think ToT is bad at all. It is smooth, and straight up and down.
KRR would not be bad either.
I would avoid Dinosaur, that small dinosaur rollercoaster in Dinoland and the safari ride.
RnRC would be iffy. Riding in the front is much smoother. And anyone on this ride should keep their head back.

Can anyone tell me why avoid Dinosaur? I really wanted to ride that and I had back surgery last year. I won't be going until May 2005 and I knew I wouldn't want to do splash mountain but I was going to do Dinosaur and Mission Space this time. I guess I'll wait to see how I feel then!

I have neck problems. Avoid BTMRR! But I recommend Splash Mountain-the bobbing actually made me feel good.

The reason to avoid Dinosaur is that it is a very rough jerky ride. My DH has had neck surgery and has low back problems and suffered the rest of the days we were there after riding this ride. It is for sure not a good ride if you suffer from any kind of back or neck problems.
As for all the suggestions to avoid above I would agree and I might like to add that last year for the first we rode the safari and asked to sit in the seat behind the driver. This was suggested to us by people on the boards here so it wouldn't be rough and it turned out to be a great ride and we felt very little bouncing ect. while on it. The CM's were very glad to let us sit in the front when we explained he had a bad back and didn't want to get jostled to bad.

Dinosaur is easily the jerkiest ride in all of WDW. Some people with no previous neck pain complain after getting off the ride. I would ride Splash Mountain before riding Dinosaur if I had neck or back injuries.

A friend and I went to EPCOT a couple of months ago. He had a bad neck and back from a recent auto accident and Spaceship Earth really bothered him. It's not such a smooth ride when you are feeling bad. The vehicle you sit in is hard and you can feel every bump. Even I noticed this when he said something. But the hard part is when you come back down and you ride backwards. The vehicle kind of tilts back and your weight goes towards you back. I don't know what your condition is, but this might be something to keep in mind. Hope ya have fun just the same.

It sounds to me like I need to stick to the very smooth water rides and the entertainment shows which are always very entertaining!

Thanks Lene

my husband has a degenerative back condition (on celebrex) and he loves ToT because it doesn't jerk you and you don't have to brace yourself, i would say give that one a try! He also has no trouble on Test Track or Mission Space. He cannot ride big thunder or space but loves splash and it doesn't hurt him. He does the safari ride, but just doesn't sit back, lean forward and brace yourself for those bumps. Also on pirates, watch you don't get bumped at the end, it will lurch you forward and if your neck doesn't give, like my husbands, it can be painful.

I also give ToT the thumbs up. In 1994 I went to WDW two months after back surgery and was still healing. ToT had just opened and I asked the CM how the ride was. I went on and the ride was thrilling but I had zero pain, which was my biggest worry. That was even in the days of the lap bar which gave you a bit of "lift" in the seat. Now all seats have lap belts which hold you down better.
