we are going to WDW in Nov, NOT in any dining plans. We are there with family and our baby girl who will be 4 months.
We are planning to have 1 night/ few hours where my mum has offered to look after the baby so we can have a nice/romantic meal together.

Want to pick somewhere awesome for hubby, he LOVES steak and good food but nothing too "ponsy" or overly-complicated.
We have been to narcooses and artist point and le cellier on previous trips and hubby liked ambience at narcooses but LOVED food at Artit point (he had the buffalo steak i think and thought was amazing!

so, i am trying to decide where to go, have looked at all the menus and these are my shortlist;

Cali grill- just because everyone says its great but the menu here is the one i think is least good for my hubby.
Artist point- but we have already been here and not sure if its "romantic really?

Jiko- but hubby isn't a fan of spice but the menu looks interesting and a lot of ppl say this is romantic place, PLUS we are staying at AKL so would be good if my mum needed us and not away as long i guess.

shula's steak house- the proces here do scare me a little but would get a $25 off coupon from restaurant.com. its not on DDP so other years when we come and do the DDP we wouldnt have the opportunity to go here. sounds like its really good for steak.... duh..... but is it worth the extra over le cellier or yachtsman? (although i dont fancy either of these as much.

any other suggestions??? like i said i have been through the menus and reviews and these are my shortlist but always useful to have others opinions.

its always difficult for us to pick restaurants, DH and I are the "opposites attract couple," i'd go for sushi or fish every time, he won't eat fish and loves steak or basically any meat.

thankyou all in advance!

I've never been to Cali Grill or Jiko so I can't comment on that, but we went to Yachtsman Steakhouse last week and we really enjoyed our meal there. Of course, lots of choices of steaks. I had the filet and my dh had the porterhouse. Both were delicious. The restaurant was nice and quiet and the resort is pretty.

i've been to cali grill last month. ordered flatbread apps. YUMMY! For dinner I had the steak with mashed potatoes. OMG the BEST steak i've ever had in my whole life! (I asked for the sauce on the side btw). SOOOO GOOD. I cannot stress that enough. :thumbsup2 Whats nice about cali grill is the view. And if you time it right, you can see the wishes fireworks.

I havent been to Shula's, but ask anyone and they will tell you that is definitely the place to go for the best steak in disney world.

Those are my two suggestions. you really cant go wrong with either!

Me & hubby LOVE Jiko! If you are looking for something different I highly recommend it!

My 2nd choice from your list would be Shula's

After reading your descriptions of what you both like, and the fact that you aren't on a dining plan, I would go to bluezoo at the Dolphin. The dining room is beautiful and the bar makes the most delicious and inventive drinks on property. Try the Bazooka Joe martini! :thumbsup2

You're picking this as a dinner for your husband, then? Well, as a guy, I can say without a doubt that he wants to go to Shula's.

And, yes, it is that much better than Le Cellier and Yachtsman. As far as steak is concerned, you're not going to find better anywhere in Disney World.

If you're looking for a romantic dinner for two, and it's less about looking for a place your husband will like above all others, then I'd echo the recommendation for bluezoo.

Shula's! The best steak at WDW hands down. We have been there at least 3 times and have res. on Oct.1.

DH and I went to CG in Sept 2009. He is definitely a meat and potatoes guy and we really enjoyed it. Also loved watching Wishes there too!

I recommend the Yachtsman Steakhouse based on your husbands likes. Always great food and good service

We (hub & I) have been to both Cali Grill & Shula's, we preferred the atmosphere at Cali but the food at Shulas. But our favorite is Flying Fish, they have the best steak (and a really great potato crusted red snapper as well) on property. The atmosphere in the boardwalk is really nice at night too, its fun just to walk around there. We are going bk in April & plan to eat at Flying Fish 2x, Narcooses 1x & not at Shulas. Shulas just didn't blow us away & while we have eaten at Cali 3x we find it just a little too loud & the food just wasn't as good as it used to be. That being said, they are all really nice places, we just find Flying Fish to be the best all around-good luck w/ your hard but fun decision!!

I'd also recommend Shula's just based on the word of mouth it gets.

Haven't been yet, but after a lot of research on the Boards as well as other dining review website, it seems to get great reviews and is definitely touted as being the best steak on WDW property. We are booked to have dinner here for my Husband's upcoming birthday and also got the restaurant.com $25 certificate for $2.

The only advice I have is to make sure you read the fine print. If you're a lighter eater and wouldn't usually order an entree (but maybe an app as a meal) you may want to consider somewhere else only because you must order two entrees to use the restaurant.com certificate. If you plan on getting steak too, then I'd say Shula's is the place to go.

:thumbsup2
thankyou for all of your thoughts!!!!
I am really looking to treat my hubby so i think the shula's steak house would be our best bet, I'm happy to just have an evening together but i think going somewhere where he will be immersed in "manlyness" and meat he will be very happy!

We have never been to either the swan or dolphin before, is there anywhere cool to get a cocktail after dinner? I like the look of bluezoo but just think hubby would enjoy the "steak and more steak" ideology!
exciting!!!

I would go to Shulas for dinner and then hop over to the bluezoo lounge for a drink afterwards. Bluezoo's bar is my favorite place for a drink in WDW. It's contemporary, adult, very nice selection of interesting drinks. You will be right there in the Dolphin and it will be a nice way to experience their 2 nicest places.

I suggest Kona in the polynesian resort....He can get a nice steak (ask them to sub mash for the rice) and you can order off the Kona sushi bar menu!

Ask for a secluded seat: you can have them note a romantic occasion on your ressie. The restaurant is off the main lobby, so you can see and hear foot traffic if you are seated on the outter rim, but the food is good-very good, and has good choices for both of you. It is unpretentious, and you can sit or stroll on the beach after, perhaps grabbing a drink from the nearby pool bar, and watck MK fireworks, or the electrical water pageant from the beach! :thumbsup2

I almost forgot! Look at Kouzinna's menu! My DD had a great steak, and the whole fish dish is heavenly! And you can stroll on the boardwalk after.

Do exactly as Pakey suggests.

Dinner at Shula's, then Blue Zoo for after dinner drinks, etc.

Sanaa. Get him near the windows so he can see the animals. Tell him that when the animals get old, they serve them at the restaurant. We guys love that kind of thing.

I like Le Cellier, Yatchsman, and any other place I can get Prime Rib. Much better than steak in my book.

Take him to lunch at Trail's End for lunch and let him try the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Now THAT is Man Food.

Grand Floridian Cafe... Very nice.

I find all these places quite manly!

I would head over to Jellyrolls after dinner for a drink. That place is SO much fun, you will have a great time.
