Are any of the resorts within walking distance to the MK? or within distance of using the monorail? I'm not too sure about the monorail so I don't know where it goes etc......
We are going to spend my mother's birthday at Magic Kingdom before having dinner and decided we would go to a resort and make a reservation at one of their restaurants.
If any of the resorts are accessible by walking or monorail, which restaurant would you suggest for a birthday dinner? were not picking, so food doesn't really matter lol.
Thanks.

You can take either the monorail or a boat ride from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian hotel. I like Kona restaurant....the atmosphere and food are great, and it is a very relaxing spot after a hectic day in the park.

The Contemporary is the only resort that's within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom. The Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian are all accessible by the resort monorail.

All three resorts have excellent restaurants. The official WDW page has the menus online to aid in your choice.

I do suggest making an ADR well in advance for whichever restaurant you choose to eat at. Free dining makes it very hard to get a walk-in or even a same day reservation.

You can walk from MK to CR & BLT. You can also take the monorail.

The monorail also goes to Poly & GF.

Definatly planning on making the reservation well in advance lol, Don't want to risk it. Thanks for the help. Glad there are a few to choose from.

Sometimes walking from the Contemporary is faster than taking the monorail. That is when it's having problems.

even if it's not having problems, the monorail stops at the ticket center, poly and GF before it gets to the MK...so i'd say it's almost always faster to walk from the BLT and CR rather than go to the monorail.

The monorail or walking isn't the only option. You can also take a boat to the Wilderness Lodge and dine there also.

Personally, I would take the boat to the Wilderness Lodge. Have dinner at Artist Pointe. The resort is stunning and there is a lot to look at.

Generally speaking, It's not the Walking "Distance" thats the issue ... WDW was not designed to accomodate walking from resorts to parks (with the exception of the Deluxe Epcot resorts). It would be a do-able walk to EPCOT from CBR or POR/POFQ or AKL to AK if they had sidewalks to accommodate ...but they dont. :confused3. So, like the PP's say ... CR/BLT are pretty much the only ones you can walk to the MK

CR and BLT are the only one to walk to the Magic Kingdom - it should be noted that if you're driving to your ADR, you will not be allowed to park at one of the resorts, go to your ADR, and spend a few hours or the rest of the day in the parks.

If you're taking a bus, it won't be an issue, but they only issue parking passes for an hour or two to park in the resort lots - otherwise the lots would be full nonstop from people wanting to benefit from the walkway at the end of the night.
