Which Resort?

Currently starting to plan our Fall Break 2019 trip. This will be out 2nd trip to DW. Last time we stayed at POFG and loved it! However, we are wanting to stay on the Monorail or at one of the BC/YC/BW hotels this time. Which one of those would you prefer and why? AKL is out just because it's location is farther away from everything and we will just spend one day at AK. This trip will be myself (35) and mom (66). No Kids. Thanks!

I always pick our resort based on which parks we will spend the most time. Typically, that's EP because I could walk around WS every day of my life, LOL! I would say, 75% of our trips, we stay at EP resorts (and we typically pick the one that has the best price for our travel period). I really enjoy being able to walk to EP and DHS (or taking the boat). There are also so many restaurants and lounges within walking distance, plus the entertainment on the Boardwalk at night. It's relaxing and a little more "sophisticated" than the MK resorts, IMHO.

Where will you spend the most time ? Is budget a concern ? Will you spend a significant amount of time at the resort and/or pool area ?

The plan is 2 days at EP, 2 at MK, 1 at HS, 1 at AK. Possibly park hop some. Budget is a mild concern. We spend a medium amount of time at the resort, probably more this time since we have been before. Last trip was the first so we were trying to do everything! Learned the hard way about over planning. We like to eat, so places with good food options.

What theme to you like? We love the tropical vibe of the Polynesian, but didn't care for the modern theme of the Contemporary. We haven't stayed at any of the Epcot deluxe resorts, but hope to next year. When looking researching them, I think I'm most interested in the Boardwalk and least interested in the Yacht Club. Have you looked at resort and room tour videos on You Tube? That will help. I would also think about what you'll be doing. I see you plan on 2 days at MK 3 days at EP/HS. The Epcot resorts are a quick walk or boat ride to 2 resorts while a monorail resort will get you to 1 resort easily and quickly. Good luck! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time whatever you decide!

I have stayed at the Polynesian, which I really love but is really expensive. I have also stayed at the Beach Club, which is one of my favorites. If I had my choice I would do Beach Club because I love the easy walk to HS and Epcot.

Really, I don't think you can go wrong in either the MK area or Epcot area. Since you're more-or-less splitting your time between those parks, I don't see a clear advantage to either for you. Both groups of resorts have lots of dining choices within easy reach, easy transportation to 1 or 2 parks, plenty of recreational choices, great pools. There are more counter service options in the monorail resorts, if that's a consideration.

If budget is factoring into your decision, you could just choose based on the best deal you can find. Or, research each of the resorts and decide which has the theming and amenities that appeal to you the most.

If you like to walk a lot, I would stay at EP resort and my favorite is Boardwalk for its more intimate feel. You can walk around the lake and check out all of the resorts and you can walk to EP and to HS. If you don't like to walk that much, stay at a monorail resort, my favorite being the Polynesian for its theme, then you can take monorail to MK and to EP, and to the other monorail resorts of course--then boat to Wilderness Lodge for additional restaurants.

With this I would look into the Contemporary Garden Wing. It would give you the monorail and easy walk to MK without the higher price tag. Any monorail resort will give you good dining options as it is easy to dine at any of the resorts. If you research there are special travel agent deals to be had in August that will significantly lower the cost of a deluxe resort.

What are your thoughts on Wilderness?

We really like Wilderness Lodge and find the transportation to be excellent. We use the bus to MK rather than the boat because it is faster. Frankly, bus service to Epcot is better than monorail service anyway and we have found Wilderness to generally have better bus service than the other deluxes anyway. Food options are good. Downside, is the size of the rooms they are noticeable smaller and I find the rooms dark and some can be very far away from the amenities down long halls. If it just you and your Mom the room size will not be a problem. We are not huge "view" people so in general we just reserve the standard rooms and WL is a good choice if you are concerned about budget.

For an adults only trip, I vote for one of the Epcot resorts. You can't beat the quick evening strolls into world showcase, and the EP resorts normally have great discounts. MK monorail hotels are awesome, but more expensive.

Wilderness Lodge is now priced about the same as the Epcot resorts (at least for our upcoming Sept 2018 trip it is). For upcoming Sept 1-14, 2018, with room only discount, BC Garden/Woods view is $338/night. BWI Standard is $338 and Garden is $358. WL Nature view is $343/night. (Since WL views are Standard, Nature, & Courtyard, I'm assuming Nature is similar to Garden/Woods views for an attempted apples to apples comparison)

I was thinking along the same lines. WL is one of the most inexpensive deluxe resorts, but it right up there with Poly as our favorite. It does lack monorail access, but the 15 minute boat to MK is wonderful. Really solid dining options, comfortable rooms, and gorgeous grounds.

I would vote for the Epcot resorts. I took my mom last year and we stayed at the Swan. She loved riding the boats to EP and HS. We enjoyed just walking around the Boardwalk at night. It's also just across the street from Fantasia Gardens mini-golf, and she loved that! I think we golfed 3 of our 5 nights there!

If you have park hopper passes, you would be able to go into Epcot to eat, even if you were in a different park for the day.

I like Wilderness Lodge because you can take the boat to MK and also to the Contemporary and the Campgrounds if you want to try eating at one of those places.

Sounds like a fantastic trip!!!

Boardwalk is bright, white and very fun décor. I think your mom would love it there!!! After a few stays at Boardwalk, I decided to book Wilderness Lodge the next time and WOW....so beautiful and fun there also!

I would think your mom will love either of them. Food choices IMO are better at Wilderness Lodge. I also love Magic Kingdom the best....... & the WL boat gets you there vey fast and it is a nice ride.
I would even try a split stay if you can, so you can see them both! :dogdance:

Good Luck no matter what your choice (s) will be!pixiedust:

I would probably go with the Epcot resorts. You already squashed AK. That would have been my other choice. It is really beautiful and very relaxing. My mother-in-law loved it there. My mother died before I could bring her but she always wanted to go. You just might want to see what your mom's feeling on it are.

We like staying at GF and always rent DVC points to make it more affordable compared to regular Disney rates.
