In Disneyland it is obvious that the original Disneyland Hotel has the best theming with it's Peter Pan pool and Tinkerbell wall paper.
Is there a comparable hotel like that in WDW? I know the value resorts have that kitchy style..but it's not "Disney".

Opinions please:cutie:

O.K., these aren't known for their pixie dust, but are probably the best themed.

1. Wilderness Lodge
2. Grand Floridian
3. Port Orleans Riverside
(O.K., so this one is filled with Dixie Dust!)
4. Boardwalk - YC/BC
5. Polynesian

I've not visited Animal Kingdom Lodge...so maybe

The CONTEMPORARY has a lot of that sheer Disney magic, and we really like it, but it is really sterile. POP Century had a certain surreal Toon Town feel about it, so that may fit the bill.

Do you mean "Disney" theme?

The themes aren't really "Disney park Disney" but they are heavily themed.

It would be fun to have a resort that was all Disney themes. Maybe Mary Poppins could clean your room, Captain Hook could bring your luggage to your room, and Mickey could check you in! That would be fun!

I like the theme at the Polynesian the best but it's more "Brady Bunch Goes to Hawaii" than Disney!

On a side note, why did the CR take those cute voices out of the elevators? I miss that! (example = Minnie used to say, "Oh Boy! It's the ninth floor!")

We are Disneyland veterans and most of the time stay at the Disneyland Hotel. We went to WDW last year and I asked the same question. I would say that the hotel at WDW Contemporary is the best match to the DLH. I read all of the time on this board how CR does not feel like Disney, but I just dont understand this. I think that WDW veterans are use to staying at really themed hotels and consider that Disney. It is just what you are use to and Disneyland really does not have those kind of Resorts except for the GC. GC is pretty much like the WL.

The CR's rooms are not Disney themed, but the hotel has the touches all around:

Chef Mickeys instead of Goofy's
A Mickey shaped pool
The monoril going through the resort
The new doors at the shop has Mickey ears
The store items were close to what you would find at DLH
I have seen at least one spot where you take pictures with Mickey ears (like DH has)

I let others talk me out of the resort so I have not actually stayed at it yet, but did visit it. As soon as we started walking around I felt like it was home, because it was more like what I am use to at DLH. I cant wait until March to stay there, but I do miss Disneyland!

I do know what you mean. I prefer WDW to DL, but there is something about CR that is very understated Disney and I think some of us are too jaded and don't appreciate. I mean, the Monorail and the mural! How cool are those! And having Chef Mickey ring through the "canyon" all the time. And that view of the MK! This is making me want to go there right now!!! :lmao:

My votes for most Disney themed rooms are as follows:

Deluxe Resorts---Beach Club and Grand Floridian
Value Resorts---All Stars Movies

Those resorts offer rooms that incorporate the Disney characters into the furniture, art work, and bedding.

I don't think any of the resorts have a super strong "Disney" theme. It would be a great idea. I don't know what they haven't done it yet.

That said I think ASMo is probably the most "Disney" of all the resorts. It has large statues and pictures in the rooms of different characters. If you go to Allears you can see pictures of all of the resorts as well as the rooms.

Have fun!

I think that it depends on what kind of Disney you are looking for. I too get very excited about the resorts and like to watch Disney movies to get me in that mood. When I booked the Beach Club I watched Mary Poppins, but soon realized that she would best fit in the Grand Floridian! So in that order these are the movies I would watch to get me excited about a Disney themed hotel!:)
All Star Movies- Toy Story or 101 Dalmations
All Star Music- Fantasia
All Star Sports- Bad News Bears?? Is that even a disney movie LOL
Port Orleans - Song of the South (if you can find it)
Wilderness Lodge- Brother Bear
Polynesian- Lilo and Stitch
Grand FLoridian - Mary Poppins, Polyana
Contemporary- Old clips of Walt Disney talking about his idea of the future!:)
Coronado - The Three Cabelleros
AKL - The Lion King
The other resorts not so sure about? Suggestions anyone??

I do agree with the OP, the Disneyland Hotel wins hands down when it comes to overall best DISNEY theme. I have not stayed there but visited and it definatly feels like classic Disney :thumbsup2

OMG....this is an easy one if you ask me. I don't think any of the resorts, deluxe, mods, etc. even come close to ASMo. Fifty foot high dalmations. Sorcerer swimming pool. Toy Story everywhere!

On our last trip in September, we stayed at Coronado Springs and absolutely loved it. Definitely our favorite resort! But it absolutely did NOT have any traditional Disney feel to it. But it had a lot of other charms and wonderful benefits that made it the perfect resort for us. And I think that's true about all of the Disney resorts. All of them have wonderful qualities that might just fit your family's taste!

But for pure, unadulterated, in your face Disney theming everywhere you look, it's gotta be All Star Movies.....

Since I've stayed at the DLH, I know what you mean about it having actual "Disney" themeing--it's theme IS Disney. There is no hotel at WDW that is actually "Disney" themed, or that has Disney as it's theme--though some, as mentioned upthread, have more Disney touches than others.

Ive always thought it odd that there isn't more Disney themeing at the resorts. :confused3

I guess I never thought about how Disney it was. The amenitities I have access to at my resort and room are more important to me.

Oh I am sure those are the most important things to everybody! :goodvibes

But beyond the amenities, it's so cool isn't it that they offer all the different themes to choose from? For example, the monorail resorts all have similar amenities, but very different themes which appeal to different people--who want/receive the same amenities (more or less).

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. Nice theme, but nothing like the DL Hotel. Just as DL is different than WDW, the hotels are also very different. I liked POR a lot, but I will always love DL Hotel!

Enjoy where ever you end up staying!

Thanks! I really wish they would build a more "Cartoon Themed Disney Resort". I'd pay extra for that!
