I don't want to get flamed here. I LOVE Disney, but so far I really haven't been all that crazy about the resorts we've stayed at. We've been to the FW cabins, CBR, and POR.

When we stay on-site we are looking for the Disney magic to be everywhere. Don't get me wrong, we find the magic in the quality of the service, but I want a true Disney theme at a resort and I just haven't found it.

So far, I haven't seen any resorts that have such a theme. Am I missing something? Is it so wrong to want to sleep in a Mickey room?

We have actually enjoyed staying in houses offsite better just because I feel like the Disney theme is carried through more. They have rooms decorated with a different movie theme, Mickey Mouse shaped pools - the works!

If you don't mind a value, All Star Movies is probably what you're looking for. A little LOUD IMHO (both as far as noise and design) but lots of people love it.

The GF would be another choice, the rooms all have whimsical Disney touches.

And the Beach CLub Villas have TONS of hidden Mickey's.

Awwww I know what you mean. How about a Magic Kindom hotel? With each sectioned themed after a type of character. Like the Pooh rooms, the Mickey & friends rooms or the Princess suites? They could offer character meals too. The could have a Mickey shaped pool & Pooh's treehouse playground. It would have to be a monorail resort too, at value prices! :rotfl: It would be so fun to stay there. :)

To us, without a doubt, the Poly is by far the best themed resort. The immersion in the South Sea theme is Disney magic at its very best. (I get all the Mickey I need at the parks)

If you want Disney "Popping" at you and you don't have to look for "hidden" Mickey to make your stay more Disney, then I would suggest ASMovies. This resort has the larger than life Disney icons. From the movie Fantasia to Herbie, to Dalmations, to Mighty Ducks and to my favorite... Buzz and Wood (Andy's Room) This resort is very colorful and it is shouting "Disney" at ya!

I love POP and ASMovies. Pop is pretty much the same way as the ASMovies, but POP is much nicer. It has some plusses staying here. This is geared toward kids as well as adults. Lots of memorabilia from the 50s to the 90s. This resort also has the larger than life icons and it is very colorful and yes, this resort is also shouting "Disney".

24-hour, in-your-face, larger-than-life DISNEY theming would have to be ASMovies.

So for those who responded suggesting the values -- what are the downsides to staying at a value? Is it really just the location or are there other "inconveniences" associated with a value resort?

Value:

ASR and POP
double beds
no water slide
no full service restaurant only food court
smaller rooms
no water sports (paddle boats/ski jets/parasailing..)
no hot tub
no mickey soap/shampoo at ASR but POP does have them.
no surrey bikes but you can rent one at POP.
no fireworks to see, but you can catch on at POP on certain location.
sometimes ASR share buses, but POP does not share with any resorts.

I wouldn't say location cause all the ASR are close to AK. And POP is close to MGM.

Hmmm... anything else I am missing here?

I know it's "controversial", but I think the Contemporary "feels" like Disney. I know looking at the building and eating there is "iffy" if you haven't stayed there, but the rooms are bright and have a "Mickey" look, the monorail "whooshes" through, there's kids noises, from Chef Mickey. It just kind of "pulses" with Disney. But then that's just me. I think it's one of the plusses of the Contemporary. Like I said, I don't think you can judge it by looking at the building and walking in. I'll be bold, I LIKE the bright rooms!!! It's offers a different choice from the "same feeling" Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, and even the Grand Floridian. All have that "sultry seashore look and feel". Kind of like the AKL and WL have the same "feel". The Contemporary, is bright alive and "Disney-ish".

I agree that if you're looking for in your face, This Is Disney, then go for the All Stars or Pop Century.

All the resorts are themed, but by "theme," what's meant is a particular place. Disney carries that through to make you feel that you are at that place. CBR--the islands, POR-the south/the bayou, POFQ-New Orleans, Polynesian-as it's name says, Coronado Springs-the southwest, Wilderness Lodge-lodges of the west and national parks, Boardwalk--atlantic seacoast boardwalk, etc., Old Key West-Key West

You get the picture! Disney does a great job of carrying out the details of each theme, but if this isn't what you're looking for, definitely go with Pop century or all stars.

Have fun!

I agree with the majority of posters here...ASMu and POP are the closest "true Disney" themed resorts. POP especially does it by providing just the right mix of Disney with other icons of the decades (making the resort more attractive to a variety of people and ages).
I do, however, think it would be cool for some type of Mickey through the years hotel or other hotel themed solely with Disney icons and paraphernalia for those of us who just can't get enough!

I would have agreed with this post 15 years ago. And not to discount the Poly, but I think the theme-ing at WL and AKL is just as good as the Poly.

As a kid, my family always camped at FW (late 70's, early 80's) and I have wonderful memories of the watching movies with Chip 'n Dale, watching the electric light parade on the lake form the beach, visiting the trading post, all very "Disney" stuff. As an adult, I've spent the last 2 years staying at the Poly with my wife, 4 y.o. son and in-laws, and have created many wonderful new memories, still all very "Disney". I'm not sure which resort has the most Mickeys or Donalds, but I think that it's not the resort that provides the Disney Magic, it's how you spend your time there!

going back for '05 in the fall!
