We are hoping to do a few days in the Universal Parks, before our cruise in March 2005. I'm pretty sure we want to stay on site to take advantage of the FOTL perk, also we will probably only be able to do 2 or 3 days, so the closer the better.

My question is... with 2 kids ages 12 & 8 who absolutely love to swim which resort has the "best" pool.

Thanks for your help!

Here is a post I made on another thread. Hope it helps you decide.

All 3 hotel pools have zero depth entry.

The RPR pool is the largest. It does not have a slide but does have the water play area with water guns and waterfalls, etc.. It is a huge lagoon pool. At one end there is a volleyball net where there always seems to be a game going on. It is very tropical and very relaxing but can get crowded which is ok because it is so huge. There is a beach area with sand.

The HRH pool has a slide, beach area, water basketball, loud music playing (even under water). This pool is more shallow than RPR. In fact where the slide comes out, be careful not to hit the bottom.

The beach pool at PBH has a beach area, a slide and is normally not crowded. My kids said they liked the slide here better than the HRH. It has an area where you can swim under bridges and a waterfall. I went down the slide several times and never hit the bottom.

The best part is: You can pool hop!

I would just add to thempark's remarks:

HRH has one hot tub, and the RPH has two. I have not stayed at the PBH, so I do not know about that one - but my 10 year DS loves both the HRH and the RPH - but does want to go back to play in the RPH pool! :sunny:

We pool hopped Saturday and my kids DD10 and DS15 said they like HRH the best (the music) but spent twice as much time at RPR pool playing volleyball. Niether liked PBH and its hard to tell why because they have a nice themed pool and slide. Both PBH and RPR had live music.

My DS 11 would spend the entire vacation in the HRH pool if we let him. He is not looking forward to staying at RPR since he looked at the pool and does not think it looks as good (no basketball). Luckily he will be able to go to HRH pool as an RPR onsite guest.

HRH has two hot tubs also. One seems smaller than the other though.

does RPR have a hot tub?

RPR has at least 2 hot tubs both located near the cabanas. DH told me he saw another one close to Tower 1 on the zero entry side of the pool but I never investigated so did not see it.

We like the HRH pool but we will try out thr RPR when we go .I like the music going and the feel of the hotel.

We spent quite a bit of time at the HRH pool this past week and had a great time. We had a 15 yo boy and a 9 yo boy with us and they loved it. There was always something going on. Examples: water balloon tossing contests, raft races, tie dying t-shirts, basketball games, volleyball games, hula hoop contests (for kids and adults), live DJ, etc. There was always someone doing hair wrapping and braiding and temporary tatoos. Sometimes they would offer tatoos as contest prizes. It is a very lively place. Each day there is a board posted as you come out of the hotel to the pool area listing that day's activities, who is on duty, park hours, etc. We had several meals at the Beach Club by the pool. We really liked it. The popcorn shrimp platter is enough for two people to share and is very good. We also had the fish platter, quesadillas, and loaded nachos, and it was all very good. Drinks are very expensive though.

On Thur evening my DH had a message scheduled at the Mandera Spa at Portofino. The plan was to go over, eat around the pool, then swim and play while we got his message. We got over there about 7 - the place was dead. The snack bar was closed, the pizza place was closed, no bar, hardly any people. The girl on duty at the towel booth said that the snack bar usually closes about 5, which makes no sense to me...seems like they would want to be open in the evenings when people come back from the parks. Anyway, DH was able to reschedule his message for an earlier time and we all come back to the HRH pool and had a great time. The difference in the 2 was really night and day. The boys called Portofino "Borofino".

DH and I walked over the RPR one morning and looked around. Their pool area looked very nice. DSis stayed their last year and she said there was always things going on in the evening out at the pool, and that the snack bar was always open.
