We have gone to Disney World for the past 3 years in a row and this year we went twice. Well one trip was with my daughter and one trip was with my husband for our honeymoon. Well we decided that next year we want to take my parents to Disney World to enjoy it with my daughter who will be 9. We are trying to figure out which resort will be better for a family of 5 and why?

I have done several different scenario's for the trip and have found that staying at Port of Orleans Riverside to be the cheapest with the dining plan or if we should up it to the deluxe dining plan. We have done the deluxe dining plan the past 3 trips and love that option but not sure either on that. Please help us choose. :) We're looking at going in either July or August of 2013.

Thanks in advance!

I would not do a std room at POR with 4 adults and 1 child.....

A family suite or even a deluxe room would be a nice set-up. Pricewise....2 rooms at a value but no TS at these resorts. so the dxddp might not be a good value unless you plan on alot of traveling time for the numerous meals.

I completely agree with the PP who didn't recommend a standard room for 4 adults and a child. And especially with 3 generations. You need more space and more PRIVACY than a single room will provide. If 2 standard rooms is out of your price range then consider the family suites at ASM- that way the grandparents could have the bedroom and you, your DH and DD could have the main room. You can still do the DxDP if you want, but I wonder if this would be way too much food for the grandparents?

We did the family suites at ASM one year and liked it! It was so awesome to have 2 bathrooms, a separate bedroom from the small "living area" space, and kitchenette! It technically sleeps 6 so someone will get to stretch out :)

If you get a regular room (not a cabin, not a family suite, not a villa), you will have to pay the extra adult fee times two for two extra adults in one room. Better off to get two value rooms or one of the categories I listed first.

I would say definitely not in a mod regular room. We did 3 adults and 2 kids in a room at Poly with a daybed and 2 queens. It was comfortable, but we were still on top of each other for any time that we spent in the room...and that was a really big room!

So I would recommend a Deluxe with the daybed option (Poly, CR, and BC all def have them available) or try out one of the family suites or villas.

I've always wanted to try DxDP, but I'm afraid our whole trip will revolve around ressies :)

I would say that if your family is very close a standard room at POR can be done. The question is will it be relaxing for you. I would suggest a room at the Garden wing of the Contemporary for an upgrade with a not too unreasonable price bump, or the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. The latter will sleep 6 and also has a full kitchen and grill for around the same price , while the former you will have to plan your trips around Disney restaurants or CS meals. Also for the 9 year old there are horses and other activities at FT wilderness. Ft. Wilderness would be a more remote location, but perhaps a more restful one within a boat ride of MK.

We have stayed as a family of 5 at POR last year. It is doable but I sure hope you all are a very close family ;). Seriously, it was me, dh, and 3 teenage dd's. We don't spend very much time in the room so it was ok for us--we went on a free dining promo. I don't know if I would do it again the more I think about it though.

Have you ever thought about any of the suites at a value or possibly renting DVC points? If you go in July I would highly doubt free dining would be in effect anyway. Now August--depends on when you go during that month.

POR is beautiful and my 14 year old who is around 5 ft fit ok on the murphy bed.
