Which Resort and When?

I have a question for all of you experts...

My mom (50-ish) and I (26) would like to go to WDW sometime in February or March... The dates are really flexible, but we're thinking we'll go from like Wednesday to Sunday.

Our plan is to RELAX. We've both had an extremely tough year. With DH and my son (our first child) being stillborn in August (we lost a son, mom lost a grandson), the passing of my uncle (mom's brother-in-law), and my grandmother (mom's mom) suffering terribly from Alzheimers... We both just need a break.

We'll probably visit some of the parks, but I'm hoping to be about 15 or 16 weeks pregnant by mid-February, so we (I mean "I") won't be doing the "thrill" rides... Mom likes them but I have a feeling she won't want to "leave" me waiting for her. (I don't mind, I LOVE to people watch! LOL)

Anyway, I know there's Presidents Week in mid-Feb, but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to WHEN we should think about going. Mom's concerned about how COLD it will be... she's only to Orlando in mid-April and late October. We're from upstate NY, so I'm sure almost anything will feel warmer than it is here... if we can swim, that would be great - I'm just not sure how the weather will be. Any suggestions?

Also, I am open to suggestions as to where to stay. DH and I have stayed at ASMu twice, Pop Century, and AKL. Mom has only stayed at PO-R and she loved it. I was thinking along the lines of the BC, but if it is going to be too cold to swim, then that wouldn't appeal to us so much. We'd be interested in Stormalong Bay.

Mom has the Disney credit card and she was also wondering if there are any deals to be had with that... She LOVES the WL, so maybe around there? I think she'd also like AKL but I don't want her spending a fortune...

On another note - DH is one of those guys that just goes to Disney because I ask him to... or so I thought. When I told him that Mom and I were thinking about going, he was so upset. He said he wanted to go too! LOL It may be a little tough to be there without him because when we went this past April, we were pregnant with my son. We will always have those wonderful memories. I'll never forget him holding my belly while we stood in awe, watching Wishes. It was unforgettable.

Anyway, sorry to ramble - just wanted some advice. Thanks!

Sorry for all of your losses, Wish.

I would suggest the BW resort for you. The weather in February can be tricky, we were there a few years ago, and it was jeans and long sleeve shirt weather (being from Chicago, it felt heavenly to us)- not really swimming weather. I'd go with BW because there is always something to do there. There are a lot of restaurants and shops, and just taking a walk around the BW to YC, BC Swan and Dolphin is nice. You are very close to Epcot- I love going in that back entrance.

Just as a FYI, Easter in 2005 is at the very beginning of April. That means the big Spring Break will fall at the end of March/beginning of April. I think crowds will continue to build in March until that week with various regions having Spring Breaks staggered throughout the month of March.

Even though the weather might be cooler, I would try and go in February to avoid the increasing crowds.

You have to think of what type of theming would be most relaxing for you and your mom. Everyone is different. I have heard OKW is quiet and more low-key. We personally love the Boardwalk and even with it's livelier atmosphere, we find it very relaxing especially late night and early morning.

Good luck to you. Sorry to hear about your recent losses...It's heaven's gain....

Thanks for your advice and thanks for your condolences... We're getting through it, slowly but surely.

The Boardwalk sounds like a great idea - Mom's even mentioned that she'd like to stay there, she just thought it might be too pricey for her. Now, I'll have to look and see what I can get as far as rates for certain dates.

jordanyosh -- I forgot that Easter was in March this year - yes, that would definitely be something we'll want to avoid... Thanks!

From the official WDW site, with a Winter Dreamaker Pkg. It would be 1800.00 for 4 night/5 days with the UPH ticket media. That would be for a studio at the BWV. Just and FYI to let you get some ideas on what rooms/tix will cost during late Feb/early March.

I am so very sorry. I think a nice break would be a good thing...I also would rethink having dh coming along...it's been a tough year for him, too and although you've already been there before it could really help him and he could ride with your mother on rides....nothing like bonding through Space Mountain! :) And you could still plan nice daughter/mother events without him for that alone time (Tea at the Grand Floridian...shopping at Downtown Disney)

I would say to stay at the WL...you can have nice walks and the lobby is beautiful...I really think your Mom would like this.

The beach club is fine...but if you've ever been to the beach there's nothing really unique about the beach club....you can get the same "feeling" on the gulf coast...but to me, WL is a pure Disney creation...I worked in Colorado for college summers in a unique area (Estes Park) and nothing could touch the style decor of the WL.

Now, for the time to stay...I would select the week after President's week...meaning start your vacation 5 days after President's Day...or go the 4th week in March...too many Spring Breakers those first three weeks.

Enjoy!

Tara
