Which rental car company is the best?

There is an Alamo in DTD so that's who we are renting from. Not sure if they are the best but they are certainly the closest to the GCV. :thumbsup2

Wow! I didn't even know they were there. I will def. have to check into that. Any good promo codes that you know of?

When driving in Anaheim, we almost always go with Alamo. We haven't had any problems with them. A family friend went with a smaller agency called Fox Rent A Car which she also liked. We rented from the locations at the LAX. As for agencies where we've had a problem, we were charged $1400 from Hertz in Norway after we dropped the car at the end of our trip. We never even came close to scratching another car while we were there or had any damage that we noticed. We didn't see the charges until we got home. It was a huge headache to say the least. I know it could have easily been an isolated incident, but we tend to avoid Hertz now.

Enterprise is the best:
1. If you lock your keys in the car they pay for the locksmith.*
2. Run out of gas they'll send you gas.*
3. Flat tire they'll send someone to fix it.*
4. Car just stops running! They'll have you towed back to the rental store.*

All other car rental agencies your on you own. You'll pay for all the 1-4 above.*

When we were there in 2009, we used Hertz and had no issues. The reason we went with them is because I went online and checked Mousesavers for discount codes and we had an Entertainment book so I checked all the different companies with and without coupon codes for pricing for a mid-size car for our dates. We were picking up at LAX and dropping in San Diego. Hertz was $400 for 6 days and every other company was over $600 for the same dates.

Everytime we go we rent from Alamo, I tend to find the rates the cheapest and never had any problems with the cars. I use the Costco discounts or the Alamo insiders.

Not even the other bigger companies offer this stuff? We are thinking about renting a bigger SUV for our trip... so we will be driving quite a few miles so this will be good to know...

Last may we decided to rent a van for when my parents came over. We rent one through Hotwire & didn't have any problems, actually we saved over $400 by going with them.

I have also used Hotwire many times with great success! super cheap rates and they only use the three big companies.

This last time I booked through Avis on Katella because LAX ones were super high and the DTD Alamo was sold out by the time I booked. I got a great rate using the American Express Travel site. No prepayment, cancel anytime and super cheap rate! You don't even have to use an American Express card!!!

Avis on Katella rented me a full size car for $17 per day which turned out to be a brand new (7 miles on it!) Chev. Impala! They also have pick up and dropoff service to the Anaheim hotels! I was at DLH and no problem returning the car at noon and getting shuttled back to the hotel!!! Very nice staff! I highly recommend them!!

Just in general (not DL-specific), we like Alamo. They tend to have the best rates (we use our Entertainment card) and nice cars. We often get upgraded cars or free satellite radio w/ them. National is the same company, just usually slightly more expensive.

We've also rented from Thrifty w/o problems, but their vehicles tend to be no frills.
We rented from Enterprise in San Diego once... They tried really hard to get us to upgrade from the compact we had rented, then they gave us a car w/ the power steering shot. When we brought it right back (pulled out of the parking lot, realized we couldn't turn it and went straight back to them). They claimed that it was b/c we rented a compact 'compact cars don't come with power steering' they claimed. We got another car - one that would turn. Anyway, that was my one and only experience w/ Enterprise. I have no desire to deal w/ them ever again.
