Which would pick to stay at??? And why? What rooms/buildings are the best for views?:confused3

Hi Ruthie! I think it depends on your needs. Do you have young kids? Do you mind a 10 minute walk to and from the parks? Do you need a cont breakfast?

The HoJo has:

Great pool areas for both kids and adults
larger rooms than the CCI
beautiful landscaping
awesome customer service
excellent discounted rates
awesome gift shop with some groceries
10 minute walk to the park (ART is available, though)
Rooms have interior doors (hotel, not motel)

CCI has:

Decent cont. breakfast
smaller rooms (but I hear nicer beds)
dedicated shuttle
smaller pool area
pretty lanscaping
exterior doors (motel, not hotel)
AAA is the best rate you can get

HTH!

we have a daughter that will be close to 4 years old when we go and so her being happy and having fun it #1 to us.

Ruthie, as long as you bring a stroller for dd(4), then I would say HoJo all the way!

We have stayed at the CCI twice and enjoyed it both times. My DD are older (9 & 11). The size of the pool is fine for a quick cool off in the afternoon.
The continental breakfast is why we went back. It is good and convenient. We always grabbed extra apples and then ate them as snacks at the park
Usually walked back and forth but did use the shuttle on a few late nights.
Rooms are not large but big enough, relatively quiet too.

From what I hear on these boards and others you cannot really go wrong with either of these two lodgings.

Have fun

Drew

I just booked our second stay at HOJO. Haven't been to the CCI. My DD 6 loved the kiddie pool at HOJO, so if you are going during swimming weather that is a consideration. No breakfast, but McDonald's on the way. the little gift shop has a big assortment of food and gifts. Service wsa great and the room was big.

My vote- CCI for breakfast and the shuttle.

I've had the good fortune to stay at both the HOJO and CCI within a month of each other, once over spring break and again over Easter, and so the comparisons are still fresh in my mind.

Everyone here has posted solid information, and I especially like DangerMouse's list. From my perspective--child-free--it seems like CCI attracts more families with small children. I didn't perceive a big difference in the walking times between the two, so perhaps it's the CCI shuttle?

My comparisons:

HOJO
Pro:
--Efficient, professional staff; I never waited more than 2 minutes for anything; good housekeeping
--Family-friendly rooms, with lots of drawer and counter space; big bathrooms; firm beds; dorm-size fridge
--Free internet service, but you need to sit on your bed to use the ethernet; there's also free computer use at the registration desk
--Larger pool areas, two of them. Both the regular and the quiet pool attract children.
--Gift shop with some food and sundries; good hours
--Pleasant landscaping, despite the renovations currently going on
--Free parking
--Lots of opportunities for discounts
--Near family-style restaurants, especially Mimi's (of the reasonable prices and generous portions)
--Laundry facilities (Building #1, in the basement, and another building)

Cons
--Because of its proximity to the freeway, many rooms get more traffic noise; it didn't disturb me, but I'm not a particularly light sleeper
--No continental breakfast
--Cheap towels
--No exercise room
--Might seem like a long walk, dependent on who is in your party

CCI
Pros
--Efficient, professional staff; again, I never waited for service; housekeeping was even more efficient, perhaps because CCI is smaller
--Intimate grounds and parking (due to size)
--Fairly quiet rooms; good layout and counter space; decent towels; cube refrigerator; rooms might be a bit cramped for families (although certainly as spaces as some of the values/moderates at WDW)
--Continental breakfast: lots of carbs (pastries, cereals, bagels, muffins) and some fruit (apples, bananas); it offers orange juice, apple juice, milk, and bad coffee/hot chocolate. It's not memorable, but it's time-efficient and filling. You can also take breakfast back to your room--you practically have to, because there's not enough space in the dining and pool area for all guests.
--Free wireless internet, but spotty/slow in places; I was able to pick up internet at the pool area
--Good landscaping
--Small pool area, but it was never busy while I was there; I think it was sufficient for the size of the CCI/ratio of guests
--Tiny gift shop, but right next door to a gift/food shop and a 7-11
--An exercise room with one treadmill, one stationary bike, and a weight machine; I believe I was the only one to use it during my stay
--Free parking
--One laundry room, near (hopefully) sunny bench for reading

Cons
--As I said, rooms may be cramped for families--even though CCI seems to attract many families
--No real discounts (aside from AAA, I think)
--Soft beds; I know a lot of people like soft beds. I am not one of those people.
--Is nearer more to fast-food/takeout places than to sit-down places (Subway, Pizza, Chinese Buffet)

I'd stay at either of these places again, as I enjoyed myself immensely at both. I might choose CCI if I had younger children, because of the dedicated shuttle and continental breakfast, unless I wanted to save some $$$; I think I could get a better deal with HOJO. For my next visit, though, I will look for a place with better internet service and workout facilities (in part because I don't have children).

My grandson thought the bus ride at cci was the best part of the trip. It is free and efficient.

If you have kids Hojo because the pool is so small at CCI it can only hold 15 comfortably. If it is an adult trip CCI. It has beautiful grounds that are lovely and the continental brekkie is relaxing by the pool if you do not have kids with you. Being from Canada the pool is a major deciding factor for us as we have three kids. If the pool is not a biggie for you then I would choose CCI first due to the shuttle and free brekkie.

We just got back from CCI and loved it. The staff was really awesome, they were so nice and very helpful. It was excellent service. It was really clean and the rooms were cute, and the property was really nice. The walk was not bad at all, and the shuttle was also convenient. We really liked having the free breakfast too.

The hotel was close enough that we could easily come back in the afternoon for a break and a swim, without losing too much time. When we were at the pool, there was almost nobody there, so it was really nice and quiet. And the pool was heated and very nice.

What is the difference in walk time to the parks?

They are just about the same. CCI's dedicated shuttle is always something I have wished for at the end of a long day in the parks as I am walking back to the HoJo. Then I remember that I'm paying half the price of the CCI, and trudge on! ;) :thumbsup2

We stayed at the HOJO in Feb. The hotel was nice, but the service was lousy. Our bed was dirty, which was a surprise because the hotel was a ghost town. When we asked them to call a taxi for our ride to the airport they said it would be 20 min. after 30 we asked where it was and were told that she hadn't called one for us, but that she would. Another 25 min. passed and still no taxi, and she couldn't follow up with them to see if they were coming. We waited another 15 and finally told them that if we didn't make our flight they were going to pay for our tickets. Amazingly, 5 min. later there was a taxi for us. We started the ordeal 2 hours before our flight , and barely made it.

I would go elsewhere.

They also broke a piece of luggage on the way up to our room.

We have stayed at both and liked both but given a choice will choose Candy Cane Inn. They always seem willing to "go the extra mile" when it comes to service and the rooms were very clean and quiet and the beds super comfy (the rooms are on the small side if that matters). We also really like to be able to grab a bagel and a piece of fruit and dash to the parks rather than worrying about getting breakfast together. The dedicated shuttle is a big perk too at the end of a long day! Neither hotel is likely to be disappointing though.
