Looking for some resort advice.

I'm in the planning stages for a November 2006 trip to the world.

I will be taking my DD who will be 17 at the time. My DD is autistic so she will need lots of down time at the resort. So while she is busy checking out the disney channel on tv, I would like to relax on a nice balcony.

With the exception of AKL (just a little too secluded), which Resort has the best balcony?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Missy

Most exciting= Contemporary, MK view.
Most relaxing= Grand Floridian, Lagoon view
Best balcony for people watching= Boardwalk Inn, Waterview (Boardwalk view)

We stayed in BWI concierge a few years ago, and were put in a room right above the Flying Fish. Our balcony was HUGE, almost as big as the room! We felt guilty because we weren't out there very much, so it sort of went to waste. Having said that, though: the BW area can be noisy and busy at night. If you're looking for peace and quiet, I'd suggest someplace like the GF or AKL.

Which room did you have so I can request it for our September trip :)

Thanks

We stayed at the WL last year and will be there again next year. Most of the rooms have balconies. They aren't that large, but we enjoyed our balcony. We had a woods view which was nice. We got to see bunnies and birds etc. The lobby is very quiet and peaceful which might be better for your DD. Some of the monorail lobbies seem very busy and noisy.

Good luck with your choice!

Gulp. I wish I could remember. It's been a few years. Sorry :guilty:
But if you describe the general location, as I did in my post, they may be able to help you out. Specify one of the BIG balconies overlooking the BW. It was almost in the corner, and jut above the Flying Fish...

OT: Where do you live in Maryland? I grew up there, and have family in Woodbine and Potomac :)

There are no balconies at the Contemporary Garden wings, many longhouses at the Polynesian do not have balconies and some rooms at the Beach Club (Yacht Club too?) have micro balconies that are only big enough for one person.

What about a Home Away From Home resort? My favorite balconies are at Old Key West. They are very quiet and comfortable. Boardwalk Villas and Beach Club Villas also have nice blaconies, although they are somewhat narrow. Villas at Wilderness Lodge has very nice balconies, but the view is rather ho-hum. If you rent a Studio at a DVC property you will also get a microwave and toaster in the room.

I would have to disagree and say that CR is the worst...if you have any rain. The way the CR is built, rain definitely comes in. There is no drainage. The slope of the floor does not cause it to drain. Result: If you have any rain, your balcony will have an inch of standing water and it will not go away. It rained at least part of all 6 days we were at the CR..even though the sun came out on occasion, we never had less than a half inch of water on the balcony. That makes it slick and unpleasant.

For relaxing I would suggest...

Wilderness Lodge courtyard view. The balcony is wide enough to sit and stretch out your legs. My hubby would sit out there for hours in the evening. There were a few nights I thought he fell asleep. We were in a room near the stream (closer to the lobby). You could hear the sound of the water rushing through the stream.

I also thought the Contemporary Tower lake view was relaxing. We were on a no smoking floor. I think it was the 10th. Right off the elevators. I was surprised how quite and peaceful it was even though we were on the pool side. I could hear faint sounds of people at the pool but it was not bothersome at all. My hubby didn't take the same liking to the CR balcony as he did to the WL.

Good luck making your decision. Hope you have a great trip.

Take Care
Jamie

Boardwalk - facing the boarwalk - would be awesome. My MIL and SIL have stayed facing the BW and said that the noise wasn't too bad - but the people watching was great.

I LOVE the AKL balconies...I could sit there with a glass of wine and watch animals or read a book all day. sooooo relaxing and peaceful.

Have you thought of the FW cabins? lots of space to spread out, kitchen, living room, big deck. We stayed there once (just DH and I) for 2 or 3 nights...I loved it...but I just love being in the woods like that.

Thanks. I'll just ask the IPO for a nice balcony :)

We are in Southern Maryland near the Chesapeake :)

My favorite view is the Boardwalk Inn. We had a view of the Boardwalk and there was never a dull moment! It wasn't loud either. We could not hear any noise inside our room.

We stayed at the Dolphin and had a fantastic view overlooking the lake and MGM! It was pretty mindblowing being in Disney for the very first time, stepping out on your balcony and catching your first ever glimpse of the Tower of Terror! :earsgirl:

You are in luck, because you're dealing with probably the nicest IPO staff that Disney has to offer. Not sure who you are working with, but if you describe the area of the resort that Greg K mentioned, I'm sure that Alana, Amy, Angie or Lauren will know exactly where you mean.

Missy, you may want to choose based on what area you'd like to be in. The BWI has some great views, but it's a bright, somewhat active area. You're within walking distance to both Epcot and MGM though. The GF and Poly are close to the MK, but the resorts do have a more relaxed atomsphere. I'm not familiar with the Poly balconies, but the GF has 3 different styles. They offer ground floor patios, semi-private balconies with dividers placed between the rooms and very private dormer room balconies. The dormer balconies are smaller and have a solid railing.

We've been lucky to have two fabulous balconies on our Deluxe stays... one at BC last summer (full balcony facing Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk) and GF (garden view in Conch Key with a great view of the sunrise over the lagoon with Narcoossee's off to the left).

I'm with you... I think a fabulous balcony with view adds that special something to my own vacation experience. I definitely need to get some distance from our in-room family of 5 chaos at times and the balcony does it for me! ;)

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I like the idea of being in the Epcot area, that way we would only have to take the bus to MK and AK.

I'll be staying at the BWI this October with my DS (10) to celebrate my 40th. We have a standard view booked, so I'll have to check out the Boarkwalk view rooms as well as the other resorts in that area.

Thanks again.

If you have a standard booked, request an Epcot view. It is beautiful. You will see Spaceship Earth and the fireworks at night.
