Which naming trend is your least favorite?

I have not read all the responses, but I hate it when people name their kids something suggestive as a spinoff from names like Anita or Ivana.

Many years ago there were two little girls that disappeared and the police were looking for them. I seriously don't remember how their names were spelled, but phoenetically they were "Ineeda" and Iwanna"

Why in the world would you give your little girls names that are so suggestive?

I don't like y's changed to i's - Like if my name were spelled Sandi

I don't like multiple letters - Like if my name were Sandee

Since we can't control what our parents do - I don't think to much about it. I just make sure I really ask my customers if their name is traditional spelling incase their parents wanted to be creative when they were born

Chances are if you have a kid under the age of 15, I can find a reason to laugh at the name.

Locally, my best friend (and elementary school teacher) swears that at least half of the boys in her classes in the last few years are named either Aiden, Hayden, Kayden, or Jayden.
(And variations of spellings of the above.)

She really doesn't care what parents name their kids, but she wonders if they really think about the ramifications.
In reference to invented names/"non-traditional" spellings, she points that that the kid will likely have to spell and gently correct all mispronunciations for the rest of their life.

I think my biggest pet peeve is replacing "i"s with "y"'s or visa versa. I'm also not found of adding random letters to make a name trendee and unique and I wince when all the kids have names that start with the same letter ala the Duggars. I worked with a woman who named her 4 boy with names starting with "Z". My DH and I joked that the next boy was going to be named "Zathros" (a Babylon 5 reference) because she ran out of "Z" names. We were also kinda afraid what would happen if she had a daughter. Zinnia? Zelda?

I hate the ghetto names... UGH... everyone back in the 70s and 80s name ended with ESHA!!!!

I also HATE it when people don't give twins TWIN names!! That trend kind of bugs me.

Also... while we're at it, I hate the new trend of naming little girls "grandma names".... They CAME BACK!!!

Funny, I have twins, and I can't stand matchy twin names! Seriously makes me gag. They're just siblings! And my twins were names after their great-grandparents, Anna and Charlie. I love old names!

Also, way too many Miracles and Nevaeh's (Nevaeh is heaven spelled backwards...we get at least one a month). Ugh.

my good friend always thought "Chlamydia" sounds like such a pretty girl name. I had to explain to her how HORRIBLE a choice that would be.

THen, she was having a baby last January. I am so glad she had a boy -- if it was a girl, they were naming it "Aryan." I tried and tried to explain to her why that would saddle the kid with issues among the races.

Since my name is Jamie and my son is Bryce, I obviously didn't vote for the first two. I voted for adding letters and adding apostrophes, those bug me.

My twins are Roman and Bryce. When they were babies people would call them Roman and Rice. That made me crazy.

The annoying trend of the "aden" names. Where is the creativity? Hayden, Aiden, Caden, Jayden, etc. They all sound like nails on a chalk board to me.

The over lettering of names - Sahmannthaa or Noeahh. Icky.

Nevaeh - nuf said.

The trendy names that sound stupid past the age of oh...13. Again - Jayden, Dakota, Kaden, etc.

I love classic, timeless, strong names. The Joseph's, Luke's, Margaret's, Evelyn's, etc. Something that people see and know! And know how to prounounce!

Yeah, but plenty of us with normal names deal with that too. I've been spelling my name for people all my life, and it is shaping up to be the same for my son (Sebastian - is there another generally accepted way to spell that?). I'm sure my youngest will have the same issue, because there are so many variations on how to spell Katherine. Really, that's just a minor inconvenience. It is the issues with first impressions, employment/opportunity, and the odds of being negatively stereotyped that I think are the bigger problem with made up names & spellings.

Now that's just asinine. Can you imagine the poor kids having to try to learn how to write their names in kindergarten?

Sorry....sadly, it's true, The mom was 15 years old, and couldn't decide on a name for her baby, who was born 14 weeks early. She came to visit when the baby was about a week old, and said, "I've decided on a name for my baby!" I got the paperwork to complete, and when I asked her the name and she said "Placenta", it was all I could do to keep the look of horror off of my face. I asked her to spell it, and that confirmed I wasn't hearing things. Her mom, the baby's grandma was there (31 years old!); she shrugged her shoulders and said, "It's her decision". She's eight years old now, and finishing 2nd grade. She goes by Placenta (she's in class with the daughter of a coworker). I feel so sorry for her.

As pp said, I also am tired of the Jayden/Kaden/Aiden/Braden names. Made up names drive me crazy. We had a baby a few years ago was Twkdh. When parent's weren't around, the nurses called him Joe. Also had a preemie girl last year named Rayshunda....her 2 year old brother was Rayshun. Both of them were named after their father (Ray).

For the record, my kids are Drew and Paige. I wanted something a little different, without being totally "out there".

Those names make Frank Zappa's kids names sound totally run of the mill boring. I sorta wonder how many parents opted to follow the Zappa lead and also name their kids (the then trendy) Dweezil, Moon Unit, Diva or Ahmet.

Same here. If I ever have a daughter, I've always wanted to name her either Isabella, after my great-aunt, or Flora, after my grandmother. For a boy, I kinda like Joseph Alan, named after my grandfather and father, respectively.

Oh, and I should add that I'm one of 2 siblings with names that begin with the same letter, but only because they were the names my parents happened to choose (the same-letter thing wasn't deliberate). My brother is named Jeffrey, after my dad's best friend, and I am Jodie, which my mom picked because she liked it.

You chose a beautiful name for your daughter.

I understand about having a bit of a smile when a child has your pet's name.
I had a lady shoot me really dirty looks at the vet last visit. Our persian cat's name is Bailey. I figured out why she was annoyed when she called her daughter by name.

The unusual spellings sometimes bug me. For instance my daughter has what I think is a very pretty name. When I'm in a bad mood I hate when they ask how to spell it. I've been known to spell her name and follow with the comment we spell it the normal way or something equally snarky.
