Orlando is only about a 2 hour drive so we thought we'd take a little trip. We (DH, DS7, and me) won't be going to any parks. This is just a short (3 days/2 nights), relaxing vacation. We were thinking about going to a waterpark, but decided to just stay at the resort and hang out by the pool instead. Which Moderate has the best pool and waterslide?

Oh, I forgot to ask... What is the cheapest rate for Moderates right now?

We would be going July 22-24 or August 6-8.

Coronado Springs Resort definitley has the best pool and slide. I have stayed at Port Orleans-French Quarter as well. THe pool there was on the small side, but still nice. The pool at CSR is very big, very awesome theme, and a GREAT slide. Last May I must of gone done that slide 100 times!!! :D I loved it just as much as all of the kids waiting in line with me....he he....so what if I was 21  Definitley go with the CSR....you'll love it!

Tell me more about CSR's waterslide. DS just saw a picture of it and said, "I'm not going down that thing!" He's afraid it will be too fast. He can't quite swim yet and is also concerned that the water will be over his head at the end of the slide. Will they let me go down with him until he gets used to it?

Check for discounts (particularly FL resident). You might be able to get WL or AKL for a reasonable price.

They have to go down the slide by themselves. They do have life jackets.

I think at this point the only codes available are for AP discounts. You might want to check http://www.mousesavers.com

There might be a FL resident code also.

Definitely Coronado Springs. 123-foot waterslide.

Here's what it looks like:

Woohoo...and we are staying at CSR... We are thrilled that has been the #1 vote so far :)
Hey ...if you go July 22-24...those are the dates we'll be there :) Look for me n hubby and 2 girls...the DD7 is tall n skinny with brown straight hair..the DD2 has curly blonde hair (the amount she has...lol)
We're moving over to CSR on the 22nd from our 3 day stay at ASMu.

Fl resident rates: code RGK for 7/4-8/23

All Star-$69
Mod-s$84
WL or AKL- $114

DH and I discovered CSR on our last trip which was just an overnight anniversary trip. We did not go to any parks. Previously, we have stayed at ASMo,ASSp, AKL, and CBR. CSR surpassed all of my expectations!!!! It is a great place to get away. There is so much to do there. The pool area is awesome! There is a nice pool bar that serves lunch, so you don't have to leave the pool. You can sneak in a little disney fun by going to a character meal at a resort. We drove over to the Poly for dinner at Ohana and had a blast!
Get your son a life vest and wait for him at the bottom of the slide. I don't think you can go down the slide. I think he will LOVE it once he does it! There is a playground right there and an arcade! They had bikes and surrey bikes to rent at the marina besides boats. I even saw bikes with training wheels. The Pepper Market and Maya Grill are wonderful! We also went to DTD. The Boardwalk would also be fun or mini-golf. Lots to do without spending a lot of $$$$. The pool is definitely great! I found the slide to be better than at AKL. We paid $109 during peak season and thought it was well worth it!

I believe the pool height at the bottom of the pool at CSR is 3 1/2 feet. My 6 year old daughter did it, first with a life jacket and then without one. She loved it and kept going again and again. We really enjoyed the resort it was our second stay there, was thinking of staying there for our next stay oct/nov visit but it appears there is a large PBA convention there then and don't think they will offer that resort with a discount.
Enjoy your trip!

Coronado Springs!

This is a beautiful resort and has the best Moderate slide for middle-school age and on, up.

We stayed in the Cabana section and it was great - not too far from the food court - hammocks on the beach - beautiful sunsets over the water.... Ahhhh..... :D

I have some video of the Dig Site (Pool) on my website.

Just a story about what happened at the pool when I was there in May. There was a young (maybe 5 or 6 yo) boy with his dad waiting to go down the slide. The child was really nervous but dad kept saying you'll be alright and I'll be waiting for you at the bottom. Dad went down and when it was his son's turn, the kid freaked out and wouldn't go. A nice lady in front of me gave up her turn and escorted him back down the steps to his father.

I would always make sure there is a parent or someone in your party at both the top and bottom of the slide if you have a child who is nervous about going down this fairly long slide. I felt bad for this little boy. He was crying.

Well, after all that I ended up booking the Caribbean Beach Resort instead of CSR. Three things changed my mind about staying at Coronado. 1) DS said the slide looked too scary. He went down a waterslide last summer that went so fast it totally freaked him out. 2) We don't want to spend a lot of money on meals and it looked like it might be a little more expensive to eat at CSR. 3) I've always wanted to stay at CBR because it looks so tropical.

Virgo10 ~ Thanks for your story! We plan on having one of us stay with DS at the top and the other wait for him at the end of the slide. Right now he's not even sure he wants to go on it, but I think once he sees how much fun other kids are having he'll change his mind.

cali2gagirl ~ Too bad we won't be at the same resort. DS could have had someone to play with.

Can anyone tell me anything about the waterslide at CBR?

Our 2 DDs loved the waterslide at CBR (they were 5 and 7 at the time). It will be a good one to get him used to slides - it's short and you'll be able to catch him at the bottom - it's not too fast. Also it's not enclosed at all, which our 2 DDs do not like.

I think you made thr right choice on switching resorts..I'm sure your son will be much happier...as well as the rest of your family...

the slide is fantastic...its a very very slight curve downward slide...lol...its fairly small...but pretty fast...especially if you use the bar above to push yourself...he won't be intimidated or scared...its mainly a "drop"....but nothing like summit plumit...its farely short...but fast...
the pool itself is great...with the shooting cannons and pirate theme...defintely a little boy's dream....its is a small pool...doesn't comapre in size to the CSR one...but I like the set up and theme...the shallow(er) end is somewhat seperate from the rest of the pool...(you have to swim under the bridge to get to the deeper end..which isn't that deep) theres a water fall and hot tub...big pluses for the parents...
You can also swim in your village pool which is also a plus...

having the food court and shops close to the main pool is a huge plus...the music they play is very relaxing...and the water dock and rentals are there too...and the beach as a short walk away....

Your whole family will love this resort...

I agree that CBR is a better resort for your family. I love CSR and it is my favorite moderate resort, but the slide at CSR is much larger with more curves and speed than CBR slide. If your son is a little leary in water to begin with, the CSR slide could easily be overwhelming to him. As others have said the CBR pool is smaller and the deeper end is clearly defined and the pirate theme is a big hit with little boys, at least it was with my DS when he was 7!
You are also correct in that it is slightly cheaper to eat at CBR food court than at CSR. Not only do you have the service charge at CSR but comparable items are usually priced higher at CSR food court than CBR.
One thing to keep in mind is CBR is a lot more spread out than CSR, request rooms close to the main hub, it makes quick trips to the pool and food court a lot easier!

I think you made the right choice. CBR's slide is much smaller (more for kids under 10). The rooms are really nice and I prefer them to CSR. With the new sit-down restaurant at CBR you probably won't have to leave the resort the whole time-now that's relaxing! With the playgrounds and boats you will have plenty to do. I think you can see the Epcot fireworks from the bach at Martinique. I would request an area close to the main pool, since you aren't doing any parks.
