Which Italian - Tonys, Alfredos or Mama Melrose?

Once during our trip we'd like to eat Italian. I've looked at the menus of all 3 Italian restaurants (Alfredos, Tonys and Mama Melrose) that I'm aware of that would be kid-friendly and they all look like we could find something for everyone at any of them. So, what does everyone think of the quality of food between these 3 restaurants? Thanks, Jo

My Hubby and I have eaten at all three and enjoyed them all. We do prefer Mama Melrose though. I think the menu is a little more creative for adults but seems to offer good children selections as well. Although we've enjoyed our meals at both Tony's and Alfredos, we didn't find their menus as special. We also find the seating very tight at Alfredos - with our neighboring tables within close listening range of our conversations, and vice versa. I'd say Tony's food quality was number 3 with Mama Melrose being number 1 (and the best in our opinions). We like Alfredos, but prefer at late lunch to avoid the crowds at dinner.

I would not rate any highly, but would rate Alfredos as the best of the three.

We have eaten at Alfredos and Mama Melrose, I liked them both equally with maybe a slight edge to Alfredos (their fettucini was delicious).

Desserts were better at MM though.

Why not do all three???

I prefer MM. I've had good luck with Alfredos but I understand it tends to be inconsistant. Tony's isn't very good. I'd go so far as to suggest a counter service meal at the MK if Tony's was the only other choice.

I dont understand what the big deal is with Mama Melrose, and dont get me wrong everyone is entitled to their own opinion. BUT I grew up in an Italian familly and Mama's is just NOT italian. (yes I have eaten there) Im sorry not having meatballs is just WRONG. :)

Le Originale is the best that Ive tried in WDW(believe it or not I never knew Tony's was even there until yesterday!) its very hit or miss, sometimes its really good and sometimes its just ok, never had a bad meal there though.

I am Italian as well - Dad's a chef, so I grew up in a restaurant family. Haven't tried Tony's yet as I've heard too many negative things, but will eventually try it ourselves. Enjoy Mama Melrose's, but felt Alfredo's is very overrated - although excellent service, it's too noisy and the food isn't that great. In fact, we found some of the dishes were too creative and not traditional Italian at all. Also, way too many cream sauces on menu - our region of Italy is all about red, red, red sauce, so this didn't impress me at all.

Happy Italian eating at whichever restaurant you choose, Tiger

Alfredo's is the most authentic, IMO. I agree the Fettucine Alfredo is superb -- the real deal! The calamari are also delicious as is the tiramisu.

Mama Melrose was the best of the three in our opinion. whether you are Italian or not-the food at Alfredos was gross, Tony's was just okay.

We did all 3 last time with DS2 and for some reason he was on his best behavior at Alfredos! He loved swirling the napkins, he said "Ciao Bella!" to every waitress around and seemed to have a great time. He was a monster at the other 2... did we just have him at Alfredos on a good night, who knows? Maybe because the restaurant isn't too dark, who knows?

In terms of food quality MM and Alfredos are pretty even in my mind, but we did not care for Tony's- now if they would bring breakfast back to Tony's that would be a whole other thing.... ;)

I've eaten at all three, and thought the food and service was best at Mama Melrose's, though I did love the Lady and the Tramp theme at Tony's. Alfredo's I ate at years ago, and it was mediocre, compared by one in my party to Chef Boyardee.

Mama's is the only one I plan to return to.

Honestly my fav Italian family friendly restaurant isn't on your list. I love Portobello Yacht Club in DTD.

So what if it isn't true, authentic Italian. It is still delicious!

I can't comment on Tony's because we haven't tried it yet (due to the generally poor reviews it gets on these boards). We like Mama Melrose as an option for the Fantasmic Dinner Package but probably wouldn't eat there without it. The smell of the wood burning oven is great, the flatbreads are delicious, but it is very Olive Garden-y IMHO. Alfredo's is definitely hit or miss in it's service, but the food is consistently good. We went for dinner on our last trip and found the service lacking but the fettucine alfredo and other dinner options were great. We decided to try it for lunch a few days later and received amazing service and the same high quality food. Out of all three, we're only planning to eat at Alfredo's on our next trip. Try it for an early lunch to avoid the crowds!

We have eaten at all 3 and prefer Alfredo's the best. Mama's was OK, not great. We would rate Tony's last on the list.
