Which is the most compact moderate resort?

So, I'm just back from a stay at CBR, and while it was nice enough, it was so terribly spread out! The first room we were given was literally a 20 minute walk to the food court, faced a parking lot, and was on the second floor, with no elevator. Happily, it also reeked of bleach or chlorine, some heavy chemical odor - the housekeeping manager came to the room and when she walked in, the smell was so bad she actually said 'dear God', so the next morning they moved us, but it was still up a flight of stairs and a half hour round trip to get a cup of tea in the morning.

So my question is, are ANY of the moderates more compact? And do they have elevators, in case you end up on the second floor?

Thanks,

"the next morning"? I'm stunned they seem to have had you spend the night there.

To answer the question, though, Port Orleans French Quarter is quite a bit more compact, and has elevators. One of the big lessons learned from CBR, which was the first moderate in 1988, was the lack of elevators.

It's also quite popular, because of its compact size (only 1008 rooms), so it is probably the toughest at which to find discounted rates.

POFQ is the most compact of the moderate resorts. I know we had elevators at CSR, I'm pretty sure they have them at POFQ too.

pofq has elevators

it's spactacular - everything (bus, lobby, pool, cafeteria) is within a few minutes walk. highly recommend it

POFQ is a really lovely resort plus the bonus points of being close to POR and DTD is great. We were in building 6 and there were two elevators in that building. Grounds are really pretty and it had a nice little store and the inside and pool bars were really nice.

Food court was good but limited choice but again POR and DTD are well within easy reach by walking to POR or the boat. Boat to DTD takes about 20mins.

If we go back again after this years trip I would love to go back to POFQ.

.

They first tried one of those big air cleaning machines while we were at the parks, but when we returned, it was only slightly better. The resort was full, so we had no choice but to spend the night in that room, but they were able to move us the next day. It was a terrible nights sleep, though. And no, we didn't get any magic - no balloons in the new room, no upgrades to a different resort, not even a note from a manager or anything. We got a clean room. But I'll take it :)!

Yes, POFQ is the most compact, but it is also the smallest, so it may be difficult to book. It often sells out.

I find CSR to be quite manageable; despite the fact that it may be larger in area than CBR, it seems easier to navigate. It's in a circle with a bridge across the lake. The bus stops are always in the same order. The furthest room is no more than a 10 minute walk to El Centro, with a bus stop right outside El Centro (it's the last one at CSR when you're going to the parks). And of course you can also book a preferred room at CSR to be even closer to El Centro.

If you can't book POFQ, CSR is, IMO, a good alternative.

POFQ is the only compact moderate, though the others do offer a preferred room category that avoids being in those rooms that are a 20 min hike from the food court. I liked CBR for the most part but a preferred room is the only way I'd stay there again because the resort amenities are wasted on us when we have to walk so far to use them.

As far as elevators, all the mods have them except CBR and the Alligator Bayou section of POR (which is where their preferred rooms are located).

Its a max 10 min walk from one side of the resort to the other at POFQ. Very small. The downside to this, IMO, is that there is only one bus stop which got crowded when we were there, and the food court was pretty small and we had to eat in the lounge once due to no available seating. We like POR the best - while it would be larger that POFQ, its not as large as CBR, and the walk from the mansion buildings which we like is no more than 7 mins to the main building.
