Which is cheapest to take from AKL to US? A cab or Mears? Does anyone have the contact information?

Here's the number for Mears: (407) 423-5566 It is around $16 per person round trip. A cab will cost anywhere between $50-70 one way.

Thank, Mac. I couldn't remember the exact price. :)

Have never used Mears..I am assuming they will pick up as many people as possible and then you are on your way? They would stop at more than one resort?

Sometimes they bring a bus but many times, they may just bring a van and your family might be the only ones on it. It just depends on how many people they have booked and the times that the people want to go.

i stayed at disney sports in early october and saw quite a few families using the mears van/bus on that UO transportation promo.

you have to sign up and pay for the transportation the night before you want to use it.
you are then locked in for the service the next day.
you do this at the lobby concierge desk.
yes, even the value resorts have the concierge help now.

the van will pick you up at a set time at the front of your hotel.
you and all paid fares will get on the van.
the van may go to other hotels also.
you could have more than one stop at the disney resorts to pick up other guests.

everyone has a seat on the bus/van.
that is why it is pre paid and set up in advance..

you list the time you want to leave and the time for the return pick up.

children fares are less than the adult fare.

if you are going solo or have only one more person in your group, this transportation is cheaper than car service or taxi.
($18 for round trip per adult)

if you have a family of four, you are looking at $72, which would still beat a taxi round trip fare.

you will not find much advertised at the disney resorts about this service.
disney would rather keep their guests at disney, kwim..

you need to go to the concierge in the disney hotel lobby for this mears shuttle service to universal.

the homies that have used it, seem satisfied with it.

when you sign up for this transportation service, you can ask the CM how many stops the van will make in route.
they will know the number of seats available for the time period you are booking.

Hello - here's my 2 cents worth - every time we've gone to disney we have rented a car for the week. It cost us about $100 US give or take, but afforded us the convenience of coming and going as we pleased. Parking onsite is free, and even at the parks if you are a resort guest.

Works well for us and quite cost effective. We also would make a run to the grocery store to buy water and other stuff.

Check out car rental rates...:)

The original question is about getting to Universal Studios not Disney. At Disney, the parking would be free if you are staying onsite but if you travel to Universal Studios, you will be paying for parking.

When I've used Mears, they usually send a van in the morning to pick me up, and we may have to stop at one or two other resorts, and sometimes at Sea World or Discovery Cove. Last time, I was the only one being picked up in the area, so they just sent me over in a cab. Usually I'm picked up about 45 minutes before park opening, and I'm there within a few minutes of park opening.

On the way back, they've always sent a bus, and they usually make a pick up at Sea World and/or Discovery Cove. Getting back can take an hour or more, as they usually drop off at many non Disney resorts before hitting Disney property.

Mears is good for cheap transporation if you are one or two people, just plan in extra time to get back to your resort at the end of your day (I usually plan for about 90 minutes, but it's usually less).

I just made a town car reservation with Mears for Thanksgiving week. It is from Disney to Universal and then from Universal to the airport for $90 + tip.
