I have stayed at the Polynesian before but this trip my husband wanted the Grand floridian.
Will I like it there? I keep hearing about stuck up people but we are just normal people taking a great trip.
Any help?
Thanks
Shelley

It's a superb resort. Very laid back and elegant. I never found any stuck up people there. You'll enjoy it.

We're normal people who just want to be spoiled and have a great time on vacation! We love the GF and have never found it to have a "stuck-up" feeling about it. It's fun, convenient, and very kid-friendly. When you're staying there, it's just as laid-back as any vacation resort is.

I think people who visit see the lobby only and think it is too fancy for them. We love sitting in the lobby and hearing the music being played.

Enjoy!

Even though my family and I have never stayed at the Grand Floridian we always visit there a few times when we are in WDW and we did not see any stuck up guests, or any of those other stereotypes people may think of the Grand Floridian.

Any time there is a resort or a store or a product that costs much more than average, there will be people who assume the consumers are "stuck up."

Just because something is expensive doesn't mean a majority of the consumers are "stuck up." That just sounds like sour grapes. (I'm not pointing this comment towards you ... it's just a general statement). A lot of times, when people feel uncomfortable somewhere just because of the price tag or somehow (wrongly) feel inferior to others there, they can develop the belief that everyone else there is "stuck up."

My wife and I both grew up with very modest means. Neither of us had ever been exposed to "the finer things." I remember once when we were in our young 20's and first married we treated ourselves to dinner at a very famous and very ultra-upper crust gourmet restaurant. We felt very out of place; as President Harry Truman might say, we felt as welcome as skunks at a wedding. There were so many pieces of silverware, so many plates and so many glasses, and we didn't know what to do with any of them. We didn't know how to eat some of the food (sounds strange, but very true). ANyway, the point is that we both felt like all eyes were on us, and felt like we were being judged. Since we felt that way, we assumed that all of the people judging us must have been stuck up. Of course, not of that was true, but it is truly the way we perceived it at the time.

Some people can stay at GF 12 times a year. Some people might save up for 10 years and splurge and pamper themselves once every 10 years.

We know of several families that will stay at no other resort while in WDW. And they are pretty snobby about it as well...sad to say. They completely look down their noses at us when we stay at BW...I mean, come on, the nightly rate is not all that different.
Anyway....the GF is a beautiful resort. I have never witnessed anyone being uppity or snobby while visiting there. My dh would love to stay there, but I think a lot of that is the attitude of our friends. He just wants to say that he stayed there. I have no desire to stay there. It just doesn't appeal to me. I do visit there on each trip and enjoy a meal there as well. But it just isn't on my list of resorts to stay at in the future.

I liked GF better than Poly...

Although, I expected more out of the GF...

Its nice, but really all these places at WDW are very similar in most ways...

The GF is nice while I stayed there once I would never go back. Very bad experience there which I won't go into. But if other like the resort that fine with me. It is a lovely resort never felt the people who stayed there any better than DH & myself lots of kids when we went. Each to their own to where they stay. Enjoy if you decide to go there pixiedust:

I have not stayed at either but have visited both a LOT. I never felt out of place or that the people there were snooty. My DH has no desire to stay at GF because he thinks the place is too snooty. I don't think he means the people, I think he just means the type of atmosphere.

This is funny, I was just reading two other posts by you about this trip. Boy you are really having a lot of issues. I'm not sure where you are getting your info but nobody at the GF is stuck up, it's just a normal hotel with normal people. I am still worried about your family of 6 though.... you guys are really going to be crowded.

we have never runitom stuck up people at gf. it is an awesome place to stay. kids all over the place, and super fun.

It's a great resort, you'll have a blast!

As for the stuck-up people, it's not that many (or even most) of the people who stay at the GF are snooty, it's just that some snooty people seem to be drawn there, if only because it's the "most expensive" (although the most expensive room in WDW is the King K Suite at the Poly). I think some of the perception comes from the fact that the GF is a convention hotel, so you will often see people walking through the grounds and lobby in full business attire. They don't tend to be snooty either, they are just working not playing.

I personally just don't like the victorian decor, so I prefer the Poly.

Are you crazy?? Your husband wants to spring for GF and you're worried about other people!! We have stayed there twice and it was the most memorable vacations that our family has had.Enjoy the amenities ,especially the lobby. We go alll the time to WDW and we always sit in the lobby and listen to the music and reminesce. Hopefully our daughter can talk her boyfriend in getting married at the GF. Go and enjoy. You only live once.

I used to think there was no snooty people there but when you read a snooty post on here try to see where that person stayed and you might see a pattern.:listen:
Id hate to run into some of the snootiers ones.
That said most people at the poly are so laid back :thumbsup2
