Which is better, one large or two small contracts?

I have been wanting DVC for awhile now but my DH is arbitrarily anti-timeshare and not a Disney-freak like me so it has been hard to convince him. However, tonight he say I could have it as long as he didn't have to go with me, LOL. So I plan to go down with my closest friend every January or maybe early December.

Well, I am going to keep him to his word, although I think after our upcoming GF/BCV trip he may change his mind.

My question is, I will probably come down to WDW once a year for a week and stay at OKW in a studio since I will need two beds for my friend and I. But I know I will want more points than that, since I want to be able to trade out for another week somewhere else with my DH.

Would it be better for me to buy (at resale) 2 smaller contracts to equal approximately 250 points, or one contract? If this doesn't work out I think that small contracts resell faster/better.

DH is anti-financing too so I am not sure if we will pay cash or find a low-interest loan or credit card.

I would buy smaller contracts (especially if you think you may need to resell them oneday). You won't need a lot of points for Jan at OKW so you could start with just what you need and add on as you have the cash to avoid any financing at all.

You may be able to someday convince him to vacation with you at Disney but not go to the parks.

Definitely two contracts. That was one of the best tips I got on DIS when we bought. Having two gives you the ability to unload a contract if ever need be where as one large contract would have to all go.

Another vote for smaller contracts for the reason you already mentioned -- it would probably be easier to sell if you needed to. Also, if you decide to buy direct, you can usually split the number of points you're purchasing into two contracts as well and still get the incentives as if it was one.

The one advantage to a single contract is you'd only pay closing costs one time, versus paying two closing costs with the two smaller contracts.

Also, if you buy two you'll definitely want them to be the same use year (they can be different resorts) so one contract becomes an add-on to the other. That way you can combine the points at 7-months (if different resorts) or at 11-months (if same resort) to make a reservation.

If they are different use years they will have different membership numbers. You would need to manage each separately as they would be as distinct from each other as if they were owned entirely separately by different people.

A little off topic (and I don't mean to be a jerk), but isn't the FIRST question on the FIRST date this: If we were to get married, how many days a year would you spend at disney?

I was always taught if they didn't answer "days??!? Don't you mean weeks?" was an automatic no second date. Am I wrong here?

Oh yeah, go smaller. Why not be more flexibile? You don't get a discount for more points you buy.

if you're buying resale, you actually can usually get a "discount" for buying a larger contract.

but if you're concerned about reselling, yeah, i would go with multiple smaller contracts.

Didn't realize that.

it's not always the case, but generally, small contracts require paying a premium per point while larger contracts will often charge much less per point (than even a 150-160 pt contract) in order to sell. YMMV...
