Which is better for resort relaxing OKW or SSR?

I'm thinking of planning a trip to WDW for the last week of August 06.

My DH isn't a park fanatic and may spend some time at the resort. Which resort is better for hanging out at? I'm torn between the more mature landscaping at OKW and the proximity to DD at SSR.

Also is the villa layout much better at OKW? I'm torn between the bigger villas at OKW and the new ones at SSR.

Thanks for any insights!

We stayed at OKW for 6 days in June and SSR 8 days in December...I think either would be great for relaxing at the resort. Both seemed to have equal access to DD...well, yes, you can walk from SSR, but it's only a plus if you're staying in the Congress Park section and that's not 100% when you make your ressie. DH and I think, even though the landscaping at SSR is still very new, that it was more pleasant to stroll around than at OKW. (I started a thread on the DVC Vacation Planning Board...about 10 posts into it I finally added some photos of the room-lived in look and the view.)

Other things you might consider...

OKW does have a table service restaurant, Olivia's...SSR doesn't, but Artist Palette does offer some great food...just counter service. (I posted some photos of AP on the food photo thread on the restaurants board.)

SSR has the spa....OKW doesn't

If so inclined...SSR will have carriage rides starting this month...OKW doesn't

If you are using DVC points...OKW is fewer points than SSR

If I had to pick today for another trip...I'm leaning toward SSR...it seemed like a little community laid out...a bit more homey feeling than OKW with the whole layout of the resort.

I doubt this really helps, but thought I'd give ya about a nickels worth of my thoughts...lol

I agree with everything that momsgoofy stated. We are DVC members and we love both for exactlly the reason you are looking for. I just wanted to add that you can also walk to DTD from OKW if you have a room in the Southpoint Pool area, there is a walkway around the golf course that will also take you out right by Cirque Du Soleil. But as stated you are not guaranteed a room location, so I would not base either hotel on that.

Are you planning on getting a studio or a larger unit. If you are planning a studio I would go with SSR as it has the queen bed and the sofa so you would have extra space in the room (especially if it is just the 2 of you), OKW has 2 queen beds in the studios so it is more like a hotel room.

Either way I agree both are great options. I really don't think you would be disappointed in either one.
