DH and I had a "discussion" about this last night. He drinks 2-4 cans of Coke (Coca Cola Classic, not diet) a day, I drink several glasses of sweet tea (not green tea with this or that in it, plain brewed tea w/sugar added--usually from McDonalds) a day.
Which is "better" for a person and why??

Yes, I know neither is really.............but the better of the two.

I'm thinking the tea is better because I think corn syrup is
worse that regular sugar.
Just a guess. I think tea has some health benefits....soda none:confused3

I'd probably have to give a slight edge to the tea. But really, if it's McDs it's probably not as "healthy" as a homemade tea. This is just a guess. I don't really know.

I'd say the tea because it doesn't have all the added chemicals/preservatives that the soda has.

I would guess that the tea is better for you than Coke. Tea has been known to have some cancer fighting abilities in recent research. If you are not a believer in that, then think of the elementary science project that we all knew someone who did. Drop a tooth in a glass of Coke and it dissolved away! I don't think tea dissolves teeth. The sugar in tea is bad for your teeth but it was the carbonation in conjunction with the sugars in the soda that made the tooth disappear.

I should note though that I drink both Coke and tea! Just brush your teeth more.

I don't know how McD's makes their sweet tea since we don't get that here. If it is brewed tea with sugar added I would say it is far better than the Coke since you aren't dealing with all the chemicals. However the nestea sweetened ice tea I've seen would be equally as bad IMO as Coke.

I voted exactly the same. According to my dentist, both will rot your teeth so switch to unsweetened tea and diet soda or just plain water.

McD's does brew their tea, so with that in mind, I'll say the tea. Tea is a diuretic and does have other good properties. Coke has no redeeming value, but it sure is yummy!

I think it's a Southern thing. And yes, it's made with sugar. I'm almost afraid to find out how much is in it. :scared1: But it's heavenly.

I think tea is better too............Can't you pour a Coke on some part of a car and it eats away at carrosion (sp)?? That can't be good for you!!

I knew it was a southern thing unfortunately. I would love to have it here. I hate un-sweetened ice tea with a passion. I love regular tea, but hate the iced tea up here. It's pretty nasty stuff! I just didn't know if they tried to pass of the Nestea junk or if they brewed it and added teh sugar themselves (or what did they use to sweeten it).

For the PP who said switch to diet or unsweetened tea, I happen to think that diet is far worse than any soda made with real sugar. Once again the chemicals ;)

I haven't tried the Mc'D's tea, but I thought it was strange that your McD's doesn't t have it....I'm not sure what part of OH you're in, but I live in SE Ohio, and our McD's has sweet tea..........maybe we're still "south"?

:)

LOL, well I am central (literally dead central almost) Ohio and we don't have it. And yes, the SE part of Ohio is more "southern" than anyone in Ohio would ever want to admit ;)

Corn syrup is actually stickier than cane sugar dissolved in a liquid. Therefore it is worse for your teeth because it sticks to them more, where regular sugar gets washed away easier. Honey and maple syrup are also worse for your teeth than cane sugar, but molasses is just as bad even though it's made from cane sugar because it's sticky etc.

I believe that soda is made with high fructose corn syrup which many people believe causes health issues. Stick with the tea.:thumbsup2

I love sweet tea... Sadly, the McDonalds near me makes some really bad tea, IMO.... But being diabetic, I can't really have it anymore, anyway, so that is probably a good thing.

I have never had sweet tea anywhere near as good as I have had in the Carolinas.

To answer your question.... at least the tea has antioxidents.

I am on a medicine called Topomax and I can SMELL the chemicals in carbonated beverages now. Ecspecially Coke, Pepsi, and RC cola. I refuse to allow my children to drink them and always geton to my hysband about it. He has really slowed down. The medicine makes carboneted beverages actually BURN my mouth and throat and nose like wildfire. it's truly insane. I think that tea HAS to be healthier than THAT.

Usually sweet tea has less sugar. It takes about 3 teaspoons of sugar to sweeten 12 oz of tea, but 12 teaspoons in coke. Plus, HFCS is worse for you than cane or beet sugar.

A music teacher once told me how he was not allowed to put Coke into his canteen when he was in Boy Scouts because it would eat through the metal canteen...

When I worked for a golf store and we needed to clean rust off of golf clubs (yes, some clubhead materials will rust) we just poured a can of coke into a bucket and stood the clubs up in the Coke overnight - rust dissolved!

I've never used tea to dissolve anything...

And tea must be better because God created it on the 8th day as the primary liquid sustenance for Adam and Eve in the garden. True story. I promise. :)

If I could hook up an IV of Publix sweet tea and pump it straight into my veins, I might seriously consider it.

Coke made in the USA is bad. If you can find the made in Mexico Coke it is made with can sugar. Cosco sometimes has it. I would find out what McDonalds is using to sweeten the tea. It is gross how sweet it is IMO.
