Which is better: 'Blue Man Group' or 'La Nouba'

I really liked La Nouba. I loved Blue Man Group. The interactivity, the mysticism.....as Matt, one of the founders from BMG said when we talked with him "Everyone gets something different from it." Try it for yourself and get something out of it.

I'll have to see the Orlando BMG to actually decide which I like better. I've been to th BMG in Boston but I don't thik it's the same show...

I enjoyed BMG much better. La Nouba was good, but more quiet and slower paced. BMG keeps you alert and interactive during the show. It's a bit more high paced. It's all what type of show you would enjoy most though.

What are the reasons you prefer one over the other?

This is kind of comparing apples to oranges...:confused3 If one were to compare LaNouba to another type of circus performance and, respectively, BMG to another type of music performance, that would make sense (IMHO). I find LaNouba to be a decent show (I've seen much better circus performances overseas, but this is still quite good) - it's dark, mysterious and sensual. BMG - well, I hate to be in minority here, but it's just loud (to me, loud is not always better - just loud) and one does not have to have much talent to perform like that (except for good FX effects). I always say watch both on youtube and get a general idea of what YOUR preference would be. If you can, do both! Personally, I am always up for a new experience. If I don't like it, so be it, if I do - I'll go back again and again. Hope you enjoy whichever one you pick!!

I was always under the impression that the BMG was just some guys painted blue banging on trash cans, but I guessing that I'm wrong.:confused3 considering all the hype its getting.

Still don't see how it could be worth the price of those tickets, even Aerosmith and Kiss were only around 50 bucks.

La Nouba every time for me. but as someone said up above it`s not really a fair comparison. they are VERY different kinds of shows

Thats because its Kiss and Aerosmith!:goodvibes
I can go see a concert for less than that....I'm taking the wife to see Tori Amos, and I I think we paid 40 bucks a piece for the tix. Not good tix, but still she'll get to go.......on the other hand, I ACTUALLY like BMG.
They are different, completely. Both are good shows, but not for everyone. La Nouba is not for me. BMG is.
I can convince anyone of one over the other, wont even try.....but I will post the links for my podcast and the video that we did while at the preview for BMG:

No comparison for me. They are two completely different shows. Sort of like comparing Willie Nelson to Nine Inch Nails..... they both present live music, that's about the end of it. BMG is a fun interactive show that fits in very well with the culture at Universal. It's performance art at it's finest. The tickets are much less than they are at Cirque. I've seen La Nouba about 4 times, it is interesting and cool, however I would not compare it to BMG. I like both for completely different reasons.

La Nouba bored me.

BMG blue me away. (Get it?)

You must be joking. I'd like to see you get up there and do what they do. In fact, why don't you video tape yourself playing several music sets and try to make us all laugh without saying a single word - then we can all judge your talent. :)

No, I am not joking. We are just sharing our PERSONAL opinions, right? I am sorry you’ve never seen a truly talented performance.

I never claimed to be able to do what BMG does - it’s not my job. We all do what we are talented in. At least it’s how it should be. If for you BMG is an epitome of etartainment and talent….you haven't gotten out much, huh?

Oh, it's not your job ... so that's the excuse you'll hide behind for having even less talent than those talentless hacks, eh? I mean, if practically anyone can "perform like that" as you presume, why would you have to be trained to do so? You can be "loud", right? Isn't that all that's required?

MENSA didn't have a problem with my talent, therefore, with all due respect, you should not either. This thread is not for measuring talents/IQ or arguing. I stand by my previous contention that this was MY opinion and if everyone liked the same style of performances, Universal would be quite boring. You may define this as art/music but I don't - we obviously come from different backgrounds. What's the big deal? We are all different. You seem to get easily upset when your point of view is not shared - no need to.

Opinions, people, opinions---not personal attacks.

Play nice.

My opinion: I love La Nouba and I suspect I will love BMG. (I've only seen BMG on tv.) I think both shows have incrediably talented performers. The shows are very different from each other. I was a music major in college and think BMG is talented. My husband was a gymnast and was amazed at La Nouba.

Thats just mean. There is no accounting for taste.....and each has their own. Just because YOU dont think they are talented, and dont appreciate that kind of performance means its bad. With MENSA, I would think you would know that......however, personally La nouba was okay. It wasnt my cup of tea. I dont appreciate that type of talent, of which they certainly have. I appreciate the twinky eating, paint blasting, performance art type of talent a little more.

Thats just mean.
You are right. My apologies to the poster who, because of my merely stating my opinion in the original post, suggested I " video tape myself playing several music sets and try to make us all laugh without saying a single word" and then hypothesized about my "having even less talent than those talentless hacks". :confused3

But I'll admit to being overly facetious and I do apologize for that sincerely.

I've only been to a Cirque de Soleil performance once. That was enough. I haven't seen BMG yet but am looking forward to it.

one does not have to have much talent to perform like that (except for good FX effects).
It is very hard to measure "talent." I am a part time musician and while technically, what the BMG plays is not all that complex, it is very creative. For an example of measuring "talent" look at U2. While what The Edge plays on guitar is technically simple, what he does with effects and unique sounds makes him (in my opinion) very talented. Yeah, just about any guitar player can do what he does but he was the only one to create that sound.

As for the BMG show, I've seen it twice and I loved it. I have never seen La Nouba but I did watch a video of the show on Bravo and I fell asleep. Of course, I am sure it would be better live but what I saw didn't really excite me.

I agree and I never said they were not creative – you even quoted what I said in regards to their good FX effects; I just personally think that it does not take much talent to play like that, as (and you said it yourself) it’s a very basic musical repetition and structure. And this was purely my opinion. I didn’t mean to start a heated discussion on definition of talent. I have been playing classical piano since I was 4, but I certainly can enjoy contemporary/interpretive music just as well – I just don’t find this show to be anything spectacular musically, except for visual effects. And again, it was merely my opinion.

We are attending their performance again soon because our best friends wanted to go and we compromise on things we do together, so we alternate. I don’t hate them at all (and never said that), I just find them overrated comparing to other shows out there – that’s all. But again, it’s my opinion and everyone has a different definition of talent, art and music. If you notice, I am not even arguing my point of view - I am simply stating it; however, since it is obviously not the majority's opinion, it seems to be an issue. Perhaps, it's the manner in which I stated my opinion and again, if I were overly sarcastic and snobbish, I apologize. Let's just go back to "status quo ante" :grouphug:

We are totally saying the same thing. I am agreeing with you that talent is in the in ears of the beholder. And your opinion is totally cool. Besides some disagreement, I don't think anyone feels you are not entitled to your opinion.

I was just making a point about talent and what it means to me. I find guitar players like the Edge more talented then speed metal guys who can run up and down scales in a mere seconds. There are many others who feel totally the other way.

BTW, I play bass and I love knockin' guitar players especially the speed metal guys. Do you know how many guitar players it takes to screw in a lightbulb?

six

one to actually screw it in and the other five to stand around saying, "I can do that."
