All things being equal (sq. footage, age, condition, lot size, location)

Which house style do you prefer?

These are 1966 houses, all around 1800 sq feet and all in the same neighborhood

Rambler

Two Story

Split Entry

I don't think splits and 2-stories work well at 1800 sq ft. But, for a rancher, that's a perfect size.

Is a "rambler" a ranch house? Do these houses have a basement?

So I would say...ranch w/ basement and 2-story without one. I like some privacy from kids.

Split levels can be "iffy" for resale and I don't like all the stairs.

Oops, I didn't read the 1800sf part before I voted. I voted for the 2 story, but if I had of seen the sq footage part I would have voted rambler.

We've had a couple houses that were about that size. One was a 2 story house, with 4 bedrooms upstairs and a dining room, living room, powder room, kitchen and breakfast room on the main level. It might have been closer to 2000sf. The other house was a split level house, with 3BR upstairs, living, kitchen (small), dining area, and and L shaped basement (fairly large) with powder room and an area for our computer. Very different houses.

We have a split entry of about that size. I love it so I voted for that :)

I like the two story myself, because it "feels" bigger and has the most street appeal.

It looks like a big house.

With 1800 sq ft of living space I would definitely go for a two story :thumbsup2

I have 1800+ sq ft in a single story and love it. Personally I do not like 2 stories and in our local area they are harder to sell, I am not sure why but that is what the local realtors told us when we bought our house. My single story is worth more than a comparable 2 story in my neighborhood also the turnover on my model is rare compared to consistent turn over on the 2 stories. It just seems that the folks in the single stories are happy with the layout and don't have the need to move to something else (pure speculation).

Just my thoughts
