which hotel would be best for a longer stay?

except disneyland hotel, which hotel would be best for an 8 night stay? i mean, location, size of room etc etc for 2 adults (1 being slightly disabled) and a small child with learning difficulties.

It all depends on your budget really. Personally, if you are going in the summer I would go for the New York, as you are still close to parks if accessibility is an issue , but you will have an outdoor pool if you enjoy swimming - a nice break from the parks.

I also would say Hotel New York if it is in your budget. I like the location next to the Disney Village and the rooms are a good size. Plus it is not as busy as the other hotels.

Personally I would peg it between Sequoia Lodge, Hotel New York or Newport Bay as they are more or less the same distance away from the parks.

Which one you pick is likely best down to your preference, Sequoia may be a moderate but it's my personal fave as I find the theme really relaxing and nice. But other people prefer the Swanky New York (which IS really really nice if you can afford it) or the naval trappings of Newport

Though we had mum in a wheelchair for one trip due to various issues, and on a tour of the hotels we found the hallways for Newport were a bit narrow and the place felt somewhat claustrophobic as a result. The entrance is really small and the lobby is on the second floor (with the elevator in a narrow walkway) - whereas Sequoia and New York are more open plan. Of course this really depends on if any of you need wheelchairs or pushchairs. Though as someone with learning difficulties as well, I prefer open spaces.

I prefer Sequoia Lodge for a longer stay. Last week I've made a reservation for 6 nights end May.
The rooms are comfi, good size, large dubble beds, ... Last month I stayed 6 nights in the Disneyland Hotel, but the beds were smaller than in Sequoia Lodge.

I want to try Hotel New York as well, but that's over my budget for a longer stay in spring. Breakfast at Hotel New York is simular with the breakfast at the Disneyland Hotel, and so you can eat a warm breakfast with egg every morning

I think for a stay that long I would want a hotel with a pool for something extra to do as well as the parks.

thanks everyone, i love love love hotel new york, but mum wants to try sequoia lodge this time so its a toss between them 2 at the mintue and newport bay, even tho i havent looked into that one yet.
looking at pictures and videos on youtube of sequoia lodge, it looks a bit dark and dingy to me, like the hall ways etc.
also if we went to hotel new york, i was thinking since we are staying so long, they might upgrade us for free and put us in one of there larger rooms or suites, but is that just wishful thinking?

All the rooms are the same size except for the suites, Disney very rarely upgrade people to suites unless they are very quiet.

Sequoia is themed around american woodlands, its not really all that dark, it does use a lot of warm browns, but its supposed to give one the feeling of being in a relaxing woodland lodge, I would compare it to Center Parcs, though I realize that might be a poor comparison as Scotland doesn't have any of those. The rooms themselves are pretty bright and the trees let in plenty light. The Pool is a bit small, but its more secluded, so theres usually less people in there : )

Hotel New York uses lighter colours though it has the darkest lobby! its huge though, and has a fancy bar in it's lobby area. It's a lovely hotel and of course you get the next level up in terms of breakfast. Really it'll depend on how much the markup from Sequoia to New York is, if its only a small difference, I would give it a go. But IMO Hotel New York isn't worth that much extra over the moderates. As the facilities are the same, and it only shaves maybe 2-3 minutes time off the walk to the parks. That's just the frugal shopper in me talking mind XD

Generally Disney will rarely upgrade, the only time and reason they did it at DLP is if hotel residency is VERY low and they are sure those rooms won't fill at all. In the past year or so they've been doing that less, as I think the hotels have started to get better occupancy rates in low season. Even then traditionally it's only January to March time (the "low season") any other time they usually get decent crowds Summer thru Winter.
