Hello all,

I'm in the process of trying to plan our first family visit to Disneyland so excited :) I wanted to get opinions/reviews from members who have stayed at either the Hyatt Regency in Garden Grove or the Doubletree Suites/Conv Center? I was originally looking at the Doubletree in Orange County but changed my mind after reading a few more reviews. I realize neither of these hotels is close to DL which is fine as we will be utilizing the shuttle.

TIA!

I can't comment on Doubletree suites because I have not stayed there. But I did stay at Hyatt Regency and I really liked it. The service is wonderful. I like that they have a Starbucks in the lobby, a bar, and a restaurant that serves really good food. The rooms have been renovated recently and are spacious IMHO. There are several elevators so you will rarely have to wait for one. They do have a free shuttle which we used once. We were there during the summer so the hotel was nearly sold out. I was not a fan of the shuttles because they would pack them so tight with people (allowing ppl to stand in the aisles when the seats were full) and I had a man fall on my lap twice during the drive ( he was standing) while I was holding my then 2 yr. old daughter. I was NOT happy! If you are going during a slow season you may not have this problem at all. We opted to drive the remainder of the trip. That is my only complaint about the hotel. We choose walking distance hotels now, but if I need a room for a night I would not hesitate to stay at Hyatt Regency again.

Oops, forgot to post, there are only refridgators in the suites. You can request one in the room for $10 a day I think.

We just stayed at the Hyatt and we really liked it. Very nice hotel, wonderful staff. The only thing we didn't like was the shower head in the bathroom- it was one of those ones that sprays a fine hard mist. I hate those, but the room was big the bed was nice and we had a somewhat cut off view of the fireworks. It was cool! You can pay extra for a real fireworks view, that I would imagine is even better. The shuttle is no longer free, you have to buy passes for I think $4 per day per person. But it was a nice shuttle and was always on time (every half hour).

ETA- check their AAA rate on their website or their advance booking rate both were $100 per night for us.

The Hyatt OC is great. Can't really say a bad thing about it. Full service Starbucks in the lobby is great. Target is right across the street so you can stock up on snacks and bottled water. Hotel is beautiful, beds are comfortable, service is excellent. We have never had a problem with the shuttle. It is always on time, and though they share with another hotel across the street, the first pickup is at the Hyatt, so you don't have to worry about a full shuttle passing by. Yes, they do allow people to stand in the aisles if there is a long line of people waiting. (Though I will also say that they are very good at adding additional buses when necessary.) It is a 5 minute ride, and I'd rather be packed in than have to wait for another shuttle. I feel like most people are able to stand without falling into someone's lap! :) The only thing I would recommend is NOT to try to catch the shuttle right after fireworks, because that's what everyone else does. Either drive yourself or stay a little later - you might as well play in the park while you wait rather than standing in the shuttle lot. If you must take that shuttle, watch fireworks from the back of main street so you can be first to the shuttle stop.

We've never stayed at the Hyatt, but stayed at the Doubletree on our last trip. We absolutely loved it-- it was your typical nicer Doubeltree with impeccable service and clean, comfortable rooms. It has an ART stop right in front of the hotel, and is about a ten minute bus-ride to the main gate. I'd stay there again in a second!

LOOOOOOOVED Hyatt OC!!! We've stayed at many hotels and resorts around the world, and the service we received here during our Thanksgiving 2010 stay was top notch. They were soooooo good to us!

We stayed in an Executive King which was a huge 700sf room with a large conf table and chairs, desk area, fridge, living room with TV and pull out couch for our girls, and a separate king bedroom area with another TV. We had so much space and loved having two TVs. We thought the shuttle was great, operating two times per hour.

If you decide to stay here, my tip is to keep checking the rates up until the time you travel. We made our reservation but ended up canceling and rebooking twice I think because the rates kept getting lower.

We think this hotel is a tremendous value, have recomended it to many people, and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Good luck and have fun!
