WE haven't been to WDW in at least three or four years and we are planning on going for a five or six day trip in October. Which guide book would you recommend we get to explain all the new stuff?

Reading this forum every day is much more informative and up to date than any book on the market.

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. They come out with a new edition every year. This site is also very helpful.

If you are dead set on reading a guide, then I would say the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. It is thorough, and about as good a guide book as you can get.

Now then, the truth of the matter is that nearly all of the information you may ever need is available here on the DIS, AND it is much more up to date than any printed guide book.

I would disagree about using this (or any other Disney forum) instead of a guide book, but instead to use it in addition to a guide book, at least for someone who is a first-timer, or someone who hasn't been for a few years, which, with the introduction of FP+ and Magic Bands, pretty much makes them a first-timer.

Having said that, I would recommend The easy Guide to Your First Walt Disney World Visit 2015, which was written by Josh from easywdw.com and Dave from **************.net.

I LOVE the Unofficial Guide and get a new edition before every trip. Also pay the fee to have full access to their website.

Yes, you can find most all the information here--and I do spend a lot of time researching things here and at other online sites. But there's something about sitting down with a book, marking things, highlighting, folding page corners over, etc. Call me old fashioned, but I still love having an actual book to reference!

I agree about the unofficial guide...buy that! Personally, I often see so much disagreement on these boards that it may cause confusion for a first timer. These boards can be a great supplement to the book, however.

I completely agree with this!

Go to your local library and check out the Unofficial guide. You can decide if you find it helpful enough to purchase. I bought a copy before my first trip and was glad I did. I highlighted things that were helpful to me.

Use the Unofficial Guide and then come here to ask questions. Definitely look for Mesaboy's excellent Fastpass+ thread to help you with that part of the planning.

I bought the Kindle version for less than $10. Definitely worth it.

And moving forward, the Unofficial Guide Kindle version is supposed to be getting monthly updates pushed out. So in theory it should do a pretty decent job of keeping up to date.

See, the Kindle version wouldn't cut it for me. It's still not that book in the hand, flip the page, highlighter in one hand kind of feeling! And I know that's old fashioned and a lot of people disagree. But some of us old fogies still like the feel of paper in our hands! :rotfl:

And I've actually bought my versions on Half or Ebay so paid way less than regular retail!

Does the Kindle version contain everything in the paperback one? Also what is in the books that isn't on the TouringPlans.com website?

Ditto. I recommend this book for all first-time or first-time-in-several-years visitors. It's simple, concise, and thorough. I bought the Unofficial Guide for our first 2 trips 10+ years ago but found that it had way too much information for us. I also have used The Passporter for trip planning -- but mostly I like it for their park maps and all of the planning/keepsake pockets in the back of the book. I buy these two books (The Easy Guide and Passporter) for every trip and use the information on websites and message boards to find answers to specific questions I might have.
