Which group will 12-1/2 DS be assigned?

We'll be on the Wonder 2/6 cruise & our DS wants to be in the Teen group. Does anyone know if you DCL is strict about the age group - he'll be 12-1/2 when we sail. Personally, I'm not real crazy about him being with a group of 13-17 year olds. But he doesn't want to be with the 10-12 group. Our DD is 8 and she'll be in the 8-9 group & I thought they will be in at least the same area.

They normally don't move them up unless their birthday is within 1 month of the next age group. I can understand your concern and wouldn't want a 12 1/2 yo in with the teens either. Tell him it's his chance to be the "oldest". Since the groupings are 8-9 and 10-12 he won't be in the same "group" as his DD even though they will both be in the Lab.

You might want to allow him sign out priviledges but not allow your DD to sign herself out so he gets some priviledge for being older.

Check out the cruise meet for your cruise to see if there are other boys near his age that he could hang with.

im not positive but i THINK theyll let the teen in if their with in 6 months of their 13th b-day. but for the first day or 2 there on a "trial time" and they have to be mature and good. i was haning out with a 12 year old in the cruise when i was on my last cruise along with a couple of other kids...she was very mature so she was able to stay. please dont quote me on the 6th months tho

I have been wondering the same thing. My son will be twelve at the time of the repositioning cruise in May. He turns 13 on June 30. He , however, is 5ft 10 inches and is the youngest seventh grader in his school. I don't think he will get along well if they don't let him in the teen area. Anyone have any personal experience on this?

My personal experience as a mom of 13 you boys is that the teen club is not a great place to be as compared to the lab. The teen club has very few computers and if they have a play station, it's only one. The boys loved the lab last time (because of all the video/computer choices). Spent a lot of time in the arcade burning their Christmas money this time.

it's if they are within ONE month of their 13th bday --- furher away from your bday usually is only considered if there's an older sibling in the teen club they want to "hang" with (and sometimes the rule is that the younger one can only be in the teen club when they are accompanying the older teen).

We cruised 6/26/04 on the 7 day eastern with a 17yr old and a 13yr old. I had both ends of the age limit covered and to be honest, both were disapointed. It depends on your child. My 17yr old is pretty mature and felt too old for the group, my 13yr old felt too young and left out. However... the initial meeting at the Stack on the first afternoon was instrumental in having both of them "hook up" with friends of similiar likes and dislikes. After a few trys, the kids and their new friends used it as a meeting place only and then did their own thing. I'd agreee with CM Mom and tell him he'll be big man on campus in the lab and he'll have a much better time. Also... both our kids met future cruisers their age in the cruise meets.
