ok, so we've gotten suggestions for our anniversary meal but now I want suggestions on a place to go with a cool atmosphere.
We usually only do a few table meals on our disney trip so any suggestions are appreciated.

We've done SciFi Diner and loved the atmosphere and we've down Rainforest Cafe and loved it there too. DD and DH want to go to that one a 3rd time but I said no, we need to check out other places b/c I'm sure there are many cool places that we would enjoy seeing.

So... knowing that SciFi and Rainforest are out let me know what you think of my list. It's hard to figure out which ones might have a cool atmosphere b/c there are so many restaraunts and lots of reading to do about them so PLEASE if you think I missed a really cool spot let me know :)

Thanks.

Here is my list of options so far...

We will for sure check out Beaches & Cream Soda Shop b/c it sounds kind of fun and if it's boring inside we could even sit out by Stormalong Bay too. Even if we just go for ice cream.

The others I can't decide between would be...
Flying Fish Cafe at Boardwalk
Tusker House in AK
50's Prime Time Cafe in HS
and Tony's Town Square Restaraunt at MK

which is the most fun and themed so that DH and DD don't think they are missing out by not going to Rainforest Cafe or SciFi?

and again - PLEASE give me suggestions for other's I might have missed.

Thanks :) :)

Perhaps consider Sanaa for lunch. It looks out on the Savannah, so you may have a chance to see animals during your meal. Its located on the DVC resort side of Animal Kingdom Lodge property.

Coral Reef is also a really cool and unique meal experience. It is also a please where we cleaned our plates too!

Oh, I should point out we are not real "participators" so some of the themed places would be out for that reason. I figure we could handle participating at 50's Prime Time though as it's fairly mild... right?? lol
Nor are we show meal type people so Hoop Dee Doo type stuff is out. We did Hawaii this year so are not interested in a Luau either.

Thanks for the suggestions septbaby, I'll look into those ones too :)

I love 50's PTC. They'll only "play" with you as much as you let them. They're pretty good about reading people.

Have you considered T-Rex? It's the same company that does Rainforest Cafe, but I'd take T-Rex over RC any day.

really?? I just assumed if we'd done Rainforest then TRex is alot of the same and dd will be 14 so I thought maybe not so much a fan of dinosaurs being a girl and a teenager. lol
I'll have to see if I can find a pic of inside there now.

Thanks :)

They are very similar. Instead of a thunder storm every 15-20 mins, you get a meteor shower (very cool!) and the lights get dark and all the animals get loud and worked up. I like the food better, as well. There is seating by the bar and that area is more aquarium themed than dinosaur themed. Here is a youtube video of the restaurant.

We liked Trex also, DD(9) is a real girly girl but loved it.

regarding your list:
Flying Fish Cafe at Boardwalk - just a restaurant....
Tusker House in AK - just a buffet - nothing interesting or exciting about it...the food is good considering it's a buffet, but i didn't think it had an "atmosphere...
50's Prime Time Cafe in HS - definitely a fun atmosphere....we always eat here.....the decor is exactly what we had in my family's kitchen when i was little!!...
and Tony's Town Square Restaraunt at MK - never ate here, so i can't comment..

our fun restaurants - those that we try to eat at each visit:
50's prime time (as mentioned above)
Whispering Canyon Cafe
sci fi
1900 park fare for dinner - the step mother and sisters can be a hoot..

for restaurants with good food and nice surroundings:
coral reef - good food and pretty (with the aquarium)
rose and crown - for dinner - great location for viewing illuminations...even if you eat an early dinner, you can come back later to their VIP section to see the fireworks - that's what we did...we also like the food there...

i know there are others we like for the atmosphere, i'm trying to remember...

Of those listed, 50s PTC would be my choice

Biergarten in Germany is a lot of fun and has pretty good food. And if you are paying OOP, their lunch is significantly cheaper than dinner even though dinner adds only a few more menu items. The band does play at lunch; check one of the websites for the performance times.

Marrakesh in Morrocco also has good theming, but I'm not sure whether the food is to your tastes.

Boma at AKL gives you a wider array of choices because it is also buffet. The restaurant decor is nice and it gives you the excuse to explore the entire AKL. It has its own savannahs and animal viewing areas, similar to but separate from the AK park. If you are there after dark they even have night vision goggles available.

Oooh, thanks for the heads up!! I read Flying Fish cafe had rollercoasters and Ferris wheels in their decor and that Tusker House had the theme of an African Food market so I just thought maybe they would have a fun atmosphere. Maybe those things aren't all that prominent then?

>>>I agree, fun place.

Its a very fun place for all. We sat in the iceroom and it was very cool cause of the meteor showers. Last trip we also sat at the bar since the place was PACKED, and this was also neat cause of the aquarium and because the bar changes color when the meteor shower is happening. Very neat.

I agree with these suggestions as well for a fun atmosphere.
Coral Reef
Raglan Road

I totally disagree about Tony's thou. There's nothing fun about that atmosphere. Its a plain restaurant with a statue of lady/tramp in the middle. whoopi. The food is absolutely DISGUSTING. I would never eat here again.

Good to know about Tony's. Thanks.

wow, it's harder than I thought figuring this out just by reading. I'm so glad I have you all to point me in the right direction or directionS. lol

:thumbsup2

We enjoyed our dinner at Tony's last month, although we did manage to get an outside table with a lovely view of the Light Parade. I would agree that there didn't seem to be anything special or themed about the restaurant though.

Here's a big vote for 50s PTC. Our family of 9 sat comfortably. The wait staff was hilarious. The decor was amazing. I love the way the "maitre 'd" calls your name: "The Smith kid's, get in here for dinner!!!"

One of the kids didn't eat their string beans and after being taken away the waiter returned to the table with the string beans covered in whipped cream and nine cherries. One for each of us. Nice touch.

Well, out of your little list, the one that I have heard is most fun and has a cool atomosphere is 50's Prime Time. The wait staff is supposed to be your family when you eat there, and, if your server is really into it, will do all types of antics with your group. If you, DD, and DH aren't shy and love to have fun, this'll be the right place for you. They are going to enjoy it.

Hopefully you don't get a "dud" server, which is basically just someone who's there just to do the job and get paid. I'm thinking about getting reservations for either this one or Sci-Fi, and hopefully if we choose 50's we don't get a dud either. Good luck with whichever restaurant you choose!

My DH & I loved T-Rex.

We also enjoyed Tusker House. I think that all the restaurants are great at the AKL.

Have a great trip!!
