which frequent flyer program do you belong to

I'm trying to figure out which airline offers the best deal for frequent flyers. We would be flying out of Albany N.Y. In the past we have used SouthWest. There prices on the net seem to be reasonable anyway. Hopefully we could vacation twice a year at DVC. Is twice a year worth belonging to rapid rewards or frequent flyers. Also does anyone use the promo credit cards for discounts.

For us it is very worth it. We use Continental and US AIR only for FF miles. We are 1 hour from Cleveland's airport(Continental's hub) and 1 hr from Pittsburgh's airport(US AIR hub).

We also use the Continental Chase Master card. We charge everything on it(groceries,taxes,utilities,gas,etc) and pay it off when the bill comes. You will be surprised how your FF miles add up when you charge everything.There is no expiration date for the miles you accumulate when you fly or charge on the credit card. I think with Southwest there may be an expiration on the vouchers. (Gail Hayden will know for sure.)

Northwest and Delta

Northwest is the major carrier in our area, so we used them without even checking other options out, for several years.
I now like flying Delta, but use the Northwest Visa. That way, I get miles for both!

I've gotten at least 6-8 free tickets. In fact, I'm getting ready to book another trip for myself & dd w/ my miles.

I always fly the NYC to Minneapolis route. (family)

I belong to the following programs:
Airtran, American, Delta, United, Northwest, US Airways, Mexicana, Frontier, Continental, Alaska.

The best of the bunch in my mind is Northwest. They offer so many opportunities during the year to earn bonus miles w/o flying. I just redeemed my 7th free ticket on them this month.

SWA RR program with the SWA VISA card....already have 2 RR tickets. VERY easy, very flexible and very rewarding.

NWA FF program with the NWA VISA.....I am not as crazy with this program as I am the SWA one. It takes a long time to acquire a free ticket and there are a lot of black out days and hoops to jump through to get the free ticket.

We have the Starwood American Express card and love it because we can transfer the points to whichever airline we want. Plus if we transfer 20,000 points, Starwood throws in another 5,000 points. This is the best frequent flyer program we've been in, as it gives us the most flexibility.

Regarding your frequent flyer question--I can't add much to what has already been said, except regarding the SWA program--SWA has a very nice Award ticket program--excluding black out dates (of which, there are few), if SWA has a seat on a flight--you can use your award ticket for it. A lot of airlines have a limit on the number of seats they release for award travel making it a challenge to use award tickets. I've found using the SWA award tickets very convenient.

I use all of them.

For ease of tickting I like SW. The thing I don't like is that they don't have a Europe option. SW has the fewest blackout dates and if there is a seat avaialble you can have it. (Not so on DL, American, Cont etc. They limit FF seats!)

I like american airlines. AAdvantage is a good thing. If I fly american i get points for that, when i rent my car i get points for that, most of my hotels i choose let me transfer their points for air miles, and if you sign up for idine on american airlines website you get points for paying with your credit card at participating places(there are alot of these places in orlando i might add.) It sure does make those miles add up.

So I venture to say that I belong to too many! But it depends where I am flying to as to which airline I will fly. Some places only one airline flies into, so I use them and join their program. Some have miles that never expire and some are getting ready to expire, so I have either used them to get the Wall Street Journal or I donate the miles to Make-a-wish.

Our personal credit card is a Citibank visa card with American Airlines FF miles (that we've had for about 10 years). For our business, last year we acquired an Adanta platinum mc that we can use for a variety of airlines (racking up lots of miles on that one!). We usually use the FF miles to fly places that Southwest doesn't go but for the most part, if the price is right, we fly SWA out of Albany to Orlando at least once a year (but usually twice).
But, like everyone else has suggested, it doesn't hurt to join what is available.

We belong to ATA's program, which offers a free companion ticket after only three flights. We visit Orlando at least once or twice a month and have earned several freebies already. There is no blackout dates, as long as you book early enough and there is space on the flight, so we're using a free companion ticket for Thanksgiving weekend. ATA is not an option for everyone, but their program is good. They are in the process of changing it to a points system to expand the redemption options, but I don't have any details on that yet.
