It may sound like a stupid question. Maybe it's common sense, but I've never really worried about what I eat. :confused3 I just love food.

Anyway, I have to go for blood tests, an xray and ultrasound on my gallbladder. The doctor suspects something is wrong with my gallbladder, but isn't sure.

I'd like to know which foods tend to aggravate it so I can pay better attention to what I eat until I have my tests to find out if that's what is wrong. I can't get in for the ultrasound until next week. I know fried foods are a no-no. What else?

Anything hoo-ha spicy upsets mine, I know that much.

The day before I had my attack, which precipitated my gall bladder surgery, I had eaten Mexican food for lunch and gone out that night for fried catfish/fries/hushpuppies, etc. I know - not a very healthful diet for that Friday. Anyway, I woke up feeling strange, hurt all day and finally went to the emergency room that night. On that Saturday, I kept thinking it was indigestion, so I ate many Maalox, but it didn't help. My attack was not like many have because it wasn't bad enough to keep me from grocery shopping, etc. I just felt some pain in my right mid-section and had a really bloated feeing. No vomiting or diahrrea. I almost didn't go for the ultrasound the next week because I felt ok. Anyway, I when I did, it showed multiple stones (and several kidney stones as well) , so I scheduled the GB surgery. The doctor told me to stay away from Mexican food or anything else fried or spicy until after my surgery. We went to Disneyworld about two weeks before (trip already scheduled) so he gave me a report of my ultrasound to take with me in case I wound up in the ER. Needless to say, I ate **very** little while there.

Also anything fried or really heavy and fatty.

Yeah that. Course towards the end anything could set me off, even Saltine Crackers would set me off. Mine is out now and nothing bothers me. :thumbsup2

When I had my gallbladder--- movie popcorn, tomatoes/tomato based products, bell peppers, and some hot spices in addition to other fatty foods. I had to avoid caffiene and most carbonated drinks several weeks before I had my surgery.

High fat content in bologna and hot dogs. YEE-OUCH! Salsa was also a no-no.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I kept food journals because it was thought that my gallbladder problem was something else. Turned out it was my gallbladder. Anyway, there was never one food, type of food or group of food that set it off. Purely random. I was so glad to get rid of it!

One of my worst attacks, which occured right before my surgery, was caused by a Matzah.

 I hope your issues get resolved soon. I lived 10 years with these attacks. They were so painful, that at times I thought I was going to die.

Garlic? Ruh-roh.

Last week I went out to eat (had broiled haddock and cheddar skins). I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain in my back between my shoulder blades. When I got up in the morning I had indigestion (never have indigestion). My doctor is old school...gave me antibiotics and said he didn't know what was wrong. :confused3

All week I had severe indigestion and stabbing pains by my right shoulder blade. I bought Zantac 2 days ago and it helped tremendously. I went to a new doctor today and he suspects it may be my gallbladder. Going for blood tests and an xray tomorrow, ultrasound next week.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread! I think I need to talk to my Dr. about my gallbladder!

Be careful what you say. :ssst: My doctor wasn't too happy when he asked me what I eat for breakfast and I told him McD's chocolate chip cookies and coke. :confused3

I just had my gallbladder ultrasound today. I have pain on my right upper side which travels to my back. It feels like gas pans in my back. So the us was totally normal. I've also been getting acid reflux so the Dr wants to do a scope. I know fatty foods are a no no for gallbladder.

I only had two attacks (both extremely severe) exactly one week apart. The first time they didn't catch it, but the second time I was hospitalized and had surgery the next day.

Both of those times I had something with tomatoes in it (vegetable soup once and chili the other time).

After getting out of the hospital and doing some research, I found out that a lot of people who had been on those liquid diets (Optifast, Medifast, etc.) wound up losing their gallbladders (mine was actually rotten and had huge stones). I'm guessing that was my problem. :guilty:

I think, besides the obvious foods, different people have different triggers. My mother's was cheese. Mine was any sort of animal fat at all. Glad I got the little bugger yanked out!

Fried foods for me. And I'm glad mine's out too. I just wish they'd had the new surgical techniques way back then. My scar's a doozy!
