Which DVC resort (at WDW) would you stay at for a relaxing getaway--no parks? I know--hard to fathom for your AP holders. :lmao:

A toss up between SSR and OKW. OKW feel of the place is all relax mode, and groovy relax feel good music (Marley, Buffett) to boot. SSR is also relaxing, and very beautiful. Both has my votes for relaxing. The whole time at BCV this last trip had us longing for our relaxation resorts, IMHO of course!

I would say SSR. You are very close to DTD if you would like to go out for lunch or dinner, or any of the clubs at Pleasure Island. SSR itself is very relaxing and quiet especially if you are in the Congress Park area.

My vote would be VWL, because of the recreation opportunities afforded by Bay Lake and Fort Wilderness, nearby.

On our last trip (which was just a couple of nights for business), DH and I enjoyed a martini at the bar in the Empress Lily and talked about how nice it would be to stay at SSR. But now you tell me they play Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley at OKW?!?!

Martini's & SSR or
Margarita's & OKW?

You guys aren't making this any easier. :teeth:

Well Boardwalk is our home and we love it. However the time we spent in a one bedroom at OKW was very relaxing. I think OKW would get my vote for most relaxing. Haven't tried SSR yet and hope to soon, but to me the feel at OKW is just more about a great summer home.

SSR and OKW are definitely the most "relaxed". I would consider SSR to be "genteel relaxed" and OKW to be more "beach relaxed". Both are great and you can't go wrong (IMHO) with either one.

VWL and OKW have been the resorts we stayed at when we didn't have park plans. They were great trips. On the VWL trip, we did go to DTD, and on the OKW trip we did go to TL and a MNSSHP, so maybe in some eyes we've never done a "no park" trip.

Bobbi :sunny:

You will feel like you are at a get-away resort for sure!! With the options of going elsewhere if you so choose. WL is still "too close" to the action for me to really feel relaxed, as is SSR being that close to DTD. OKW really makes us feel away from the whole world! My husband and I frequently use it as a get away for a few days and don't do the parks; unable to do that when DDs (20 & 24) come along to the "retirement home" as they affectionately call OKW :teeth:

Why not Vero or Hilton Head? They're both beautiful, very relaxing and no danger going to parks there--unless they're national or state parks!

I vote for OKW, and I love it when they play Jimmy Buffet music. Remember, "It's 5 o'clock somewhere'!

That's exactly the attitude for OKW!! We go in the summer (August) and when those daily afternoon showers roll in, we take to our balcony for "happy hour" as it has come to be known to my family. We play games, snack, drink, etc. - don't do that nearly enough at home!! :thumbsup2

I booked std view for 11 months and changed to OKW at 7 mos. for specifically that reason. We are going in July and not doing any parks at all. This way the car is out front for disney quest and going off site for dinner not to mention Ramona at the gurgling suitcase and that Buffett music. If we want to go shopping we'll hop on the boat to Downtown Disney. OKW can't be beat for relaxing "resort" type vacations.

Saratoga Springs. It's beautiful, peaceful and elegant--very "grown up." The spa is wonderful, :cloud9: and you'd have access to all the good restaurants and shops at Downtown Disney.

OKW - especially if you want a no parks vacation.

you can't see any of the parks from OKW - so no temptation to go to a park...

Bobbie - I did the opposite - went to DD from OKW, and went to MNSSHP and MVMCP from VWL....

OKW is just a relaxing atmosphere. try it!!!

ITA with SSR & OKW. One thing in favor of SSR - it's the easiest to get off-site from - assuming you have a car....

PS If DTD counts as a "Park" in this thread, it should also count in the "location location location" threads... :thumbsup2

OKW would have my vote for first place as far as relaxation, then VWL.

VWL gives me a very "serene" feel. OKW is very laid back, southern, tropical relaxed feel.

My signature line says it all.............

oh, and the music by the pool is wonderful! The quiet pools ARE quiet.

After all this OKW talk, I have decided to head back there for our May trip, called MS and they had availablity. Also saved 29 points. I can't wait, we haven't stayed there in almost a year.
love your sig line Sue! Had me thinking how much we enjoyed our last OKW trip..... :thumbsup2

Now to change my counter....

A dear friend from England says - when drinks are proposed early in the day: "Well, it's six o'clock somewhere in the British Empire."
And OKW has my vote.

We'll be staying at SSR on our next trip at the end of the DVC Members' cruise in October, but we're scouting out a contract at OKW so we can book at 11 months for Food & Wine.

We're not concerned, as some are, about being able to walk back to BWV after Epcot. If we can drive safely after a day in Napa/Sonoma, we can manage a bus ride back to OKW without embarassing ourselves.
