Which DVC if you only had one day to visit??

We are DVC members who will only be staying at WDW for one day/night following our cruise in February. We are traveling with another family who has really never experienced Disney (went once, had to leave after 4 days d/t illness). I would like to flex my "DVC muscle", get some really great accommodations and show them a nice time for the 24 hours we'll be there.

There will be 8 of us in total (4 adults; 3 teens; 1 child). Unfortunately, we don't have an unlimited amount of points to spend, so I'm trying to get the "best bang" for the buck (point!) Would you "go for it" and book higher-point accommodations in the BW area (GV = 108; 2 BR + studio = 43/54) with lots to see/do; or would you be more frugal with points and stay at OKW (GV = 51; 2 BR + studio = 41)?

Just looking for some opinions.....thanks!

go with BWV and try for standard view.

I know I am in the minority - but I would go with 2-bedroom and studio.

GV are nice - but for me not worth the points (so far).

I would also go for the 2BR and Studio at either the BWV or BCV. By staying at the BCV or BWV, you will have quick and easy access to MGM and EPCOT as well as all of the Boardwalk locations, especially since your rooms probably won't be ready when you arrive.

How about something nice at SSR? Maybe a GV, or a 2BR + Studio. With your time-frame, you'll be in the buildings closest to DTD - that's a heck of a view and location. Plus, SSR is in the best shape that it will ever be in, with pretty much everything new / less than 1 year old; if you want to "impress", you want to minimize the chances of getting a room beat-up furniture, painted-over mold and an extended family of 6-legged friends under the sink....

My second choice would be OKW; I haven't stayed there, but have heard great things about both the atmosphere and the size - two things that will impress many folks much more than the 10 minute walk to a theme park, given your short stay.

IMHO - YMMV

Have to disagree Dr. T. Given the short stay, having a 10 minute walk to the theme park would be a top priority for many more folks IMHO. And since they are only there for 1 day and probably won't get to Animal Kingdom, having the 6 legged family under the sink could replace "It's Tough To Be A Bug".

I would go with BWV and would also take the 2 BR and studio if points are an issue.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies....you've really given me some good things to think about! After talking to DH, it looks like we may go the
2-BR/studio route at either BCV or BWV. We really love that area which is why we purchased at BCV to begin with. Plus, if we decide we want to "pop" into Epcot for the afternoon, it will be a short walk!

Thanks again!

I though you were definitely taking your friends to the parks - if you aren't - then go with OKW - cheaper points and a more relaxed stay.

Since your family has never experienced Disney I would go for the BWV. This gives them a variety of things to experience all within a short distance. People always say that first impressions are important. Your family obvioulsy will not get to evrything; but I would want them to be able to see what Disney offers outside of the theme parks.

If it fits into your plans, stop by the model rooms at SSR. That Grand Villa with the vaulted ceilings and picture windows of DD is to die for.

Aside from that, I think they all hold some appeal:

VLW: Theming
BCV: Stormalong Bay
BWV: Boardwalk area
OKW: Big rooms, laid-back atmosphere
SSR: Brand new rooms / furnishings

Unless you got a lemon of a room, I don't think you could go wrong at any of the resorts. My current favorites are SSR and BWV. Since the construction at SSR may be a turn-off to some, I'd probably lean toward BWV.

But, do try to stop by the models if you can. Even after spending 2 nights in our 2B at SSR, we were blown-away by that Grand Villa!

We're not quite sure what we will be doing for that one day/night! :confused3 I'm still torn between booking "location" (BWV/BCV) vs. booking point savings (OKW). We will be coming off a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise, so we may just want to 'hang out' and relax.....or we may already be very relaxed from the cruise and want to tackle a park. I think we're going to leave it up to how we feel once we arrive. How nice to have DVC so we can be so 'cavalier', eh? :D

I would also be interested in SSR, but not sure what the status of construction is. I really don't want to be surrounded by mounds of dirt or construction vehicles for the very short time we will be there.

Thanks again for your replies, everyone~!

Construction vehicles are minimal. The steel framework for all of the buildings is up--but we did see a few forklifts and a crane being used to move materials around and do roofing work.

This posting from MousePlanet.com has some recent photos:

All of the under-construction buildings are in the same area, and surrounded by a covered fence. But, due to the height of the buildings and variations in the terrain, you can't help but see the construction zone as you drive past.

But, once you arrive in your room at Congress Park, you'll never know the construction is happening. All of the balconies point away from the construction, with most having a nice view of Downtown Disney.
