I am torn between a resale at WLV because I just love it there or buying into SSR because of the grand villas. My question is at the 7 month window would I have a better chance of getting a Grand Villa at SSR or a 2 bedroom at WLV in December?

TIA.

Those both sound really hard to get! Wilderness Lodge is beautiful at Christmas. But I went through a SSR Grand Villa and it is fantastic! The Grand Villa is a heck of a lot of points though.
Maybe you should buy at the resort you prefer to stay more often and rent points to get the other one.
Good luck with a tough decision!

You'd better have lots of points. A one bedroom goes for about 75 points per night on Christmas Eve and the day before. We were looking into planning a Christmas/NYE 2005 vacation and it would have been around 400 points for 8 nights in a one bedroom.

Rule of DVC ~ Always Buy Where you Want to Stay the Most!

Remeber your Home Resort will give you the advantage of the 11 month booking window. At 7 months you can always check for availability elsewhere.

It would never be Christmas itself(couldn't do Christmas with no snow), it was the middle of December I was more concerned about. As for a grand villa that also would be a once or twice deal in a few years with extended family. As for any other time of year I would equally enjoy staying at either resort.

Are you considering enough points that you could do both? Never hurts to have that home field advantage at more than one resort.

Likely the GV will be easier to get once the resort is fully built. But it's entirely possible that the two may be mutually exclusive. Decide which one is most important to you. Don't forget OKW has GV and will be less expensive than VWL, both in terms of resale price and dues.

Dean has a good point. Maybe you should purchase the lion's share of your points at either VWL or SSR (whichever you think you want to stay at most often), and then get a smaller resale at OKW for those GV stays every 3 years.

Thanks Everyone. That is a good suggestion which leads me to my next question. Sorry but this is a little confusing:(

Say I have 150 points at WLV and 100 at OKW and wanted to reserve a GV at the 11 month window can I use my full 250 points for it or can I only use the OKW portion and wait a few more months to use the WLV portion?

You could only use the 100 OKW points to book at OKW at the 11 month window. You'd have to wait until the 7 month window opens to use the 150 WL points at OKW.

Best wishes -

But you could use 100 OKW points banked from the previous year, and borrow 100 OKW points from the next year, and have 300 points to play with....

We just added on at OKW for that VERY reason. We added on 65 points, which will give us 190 points once every three years...enough for a 5 night stay during Jan, Sep, Oct, Nov, or early Dec. That way, we can take an extended family trip in a GV every third year. We bought direct from DVC, and the amount was less than $6000. Not bad!!!

We also own points at VWL and BWV...each for the 11 month window. Like many other posters, I highly recommend buying smaller contracts at different resorts.

Remember...once you have a contract (of ANY size), you can add-on via DVC...in increments as little as 25 pts, and thru them you do not pay closing costs (even though the points are more expensive). But, you could add-on as you get more money.

Just my .02!

Hockey Mom...

See what happens when you stay at DVC resorts. I should of warned you about renting points and catching the DVC bug.

I'm glad you guys had a great time and I would love to see a picture of you and family in front of VWL. Have you talked to a DVC guide yet? They are very helpful. PM me if you want any help.

Lori- i fell in love, what can I say. We did take a picture for you and DH has to do something to his scanner and then we will send its on its way. I want to stay again next December so that's why I am thinking I might as well take the plunge.

Thanks for the help everyone.:D

Just some input on the VWL 2br at 7mo for December. We do own at VWL and made our reservation at 11months for a 1br....then my parents decided to join us at WDW and I offered to check on a 2br. (after the 7 mo. window had opened). We got all but one night in the 2br right away...and had to waitlist for the first night. That just came through today. So it worked for us....but I do believe VWL is the smallest DVC. Other times I have called on short notice for DVC rooms in December I've only been able to get OKW....but SSR is a new situation, so I don't know how that will work out.

Good luck with your decision....as others have said, I'd buy where you want to stay most.

In your shoes I would buy VWL. You will probably take more trips in mid December with your immediate family than big GV trips which sound like you will take a few times in the next 40 years. VWL is really hard to book (though not impossible) at that time of year.

Then I'd look to trading points with someone or renting points from someone who has the 11 month advantage when you do need the GV trip.
