Which would be faster:

a) Land at MCO, Take ME to Pop Century, Grab tickets from desk at Pop century (pre-check in) and take bus to hollywood Studios

b) land at MCO, Pick up luggage, pick up rental car (at airport), Drive to Pop Century, Grab tickets from desk (pre-check in) and drive to hollywood studios

If you know the property Rental cars are ALWAYS faster!:thumbsup2

In reality, either of your options is likely to take you about the same amount of time in getting from MCO to the resort. DME can have delays, rental car counters can have delays, baggage claim can have delays. The rental car option puts two of those into play.

Once you're on property, a rental car will be quicker for most trips (not always) if you know the way around. But there's no charge for DME or Disney transport once on site.

I read a tip on these boards years ago that I will pass along...

Join one of the FREE car rental programs such as Dollar Express.

I waited in a long line in 2005 like most. Before 2007 trip, read about joining Dollar Express. Even though I have only used it twice in 4 years, I just walk up to that "special person" counter and have my car in 5-10 minutes instead of 30-60. (Both times, I have been done at the car counter before my family has collected the baggage.)

Just go on the internet, fill out a couple of forms and get a card that makes you speical, too.

Not necessarily. Maybe once you GET your rental it will be faster. The problem/question is the time it takes to GET your rental.

As mentioned, if you belong to a rental companies "frequent renter" program, you might be able to skip the counter and just go get your car. Great. That saves you from between 5 minutes (no lines) to an hour (long line) or better.

BUT... now you need to wait for your luggage. We flew down on 5/28. I am not exaggerating, it took 50 minutes from when we landed before bags STARTED coming out at the baggage claim. The workers apparently had a problem opening the luggage door. If we would have been on ME, we would have been probably on WDW property by that point.

Then we still had to get our luggage to the rental cars (skipping the counter), pick one out, load it up, go through the checkout, etc. In that case, we would have been at our resort with DME before even leaving the airport with the rental.

Not saying that will happen to everyone, but you can't say a rental car is ALWAYS faster.

We took the magic express the past 2 times we went to Disney. We walked off the plane and got right on ME and was there in no time. But we all had carry on luggage. I thought it was faster then when we rented a car.
