I was wondering if anyone has had experience with underwater, disposable cameras? What brand takes better pics? I have a nice digital camera, but is not waterproff, so I thought I would take a DC to the beach. Can someone give me some advice on this? I thought I had read somehwere that Fuji was better, true or false?

Thanks!

I don't know if Fuji is better, but I have used it and was very happy with it. It is what I am going to buy for my upcoming trip.
It was very durable and easy to use.

I use Fuji film anyways. I like the way the film brings out the colors in the pictures.

I ordered underwater cameras from CNG Disposable Cameras. They were very convenient and moderately priced. I needed 5 cameras and if I ordered a 6th one, the shipping was free, so I paid the same for 6 as I would have for 5. I bought a camera for each of our two cars to use to record an accident, if it happens, which is a good idea.

I haven't used the cameras yet, but will be very soon. They are 400 speed film with 27 exposures for $6.95 so it should work out well. It's rated for use up to 30 feet deep.

here's a link to the CNG site: http://www.cngdisposablecamera.com/

hope that helps

I would go with Fuji. From what I hear, their disposables are far more dependable than Kodak. My DH took the most expensive Kodak disposable to the Seychelles Islands. It jammed after two pictures and wouldn't advance. I had advised him to buy Fuji, since as a wildlife photographer that is my film of choice. Kodak is just more popular. Their products are usually very good, but I question the quality of their disposables.

In truth, I see my DH's loss of underwater pics as his own fault. He has a good Minolta underwater camera that he still uses on land but no longer uses underwater because he thinks it might leak since it is several years old!

I have used both Fuji and Kodak underwater disposable cameras. I can't tell too much in differene or quality of photos. I usually buy the Fuji as it is something like 7.88 each at Walmart. I will buy Kodak if it happens to be on sale.

Probably the reason you have heard Fuji is better is that Fuji film tends to show truer and brighter blues and greens. I believe Kodak is better in the "warmer" colors. I have always loved the colors Fuji gives with a blue sky or ocean. Either way you are sure to come out with some great pics!

On last year's cruise we brought and used Kodak cameras. We were pleased with the results until we saw this years photos using Fuji cameras. The previous poster was correct in saying that Fuji does a better job with blues and greens than Kodak. We will take Fuji in the future.

We used Kodak on our 2/23 DCL cruise and took underwater pics. they were OK.

Then we used the Fuji underwater camera that we bought at Wal-Mart and those pics came out much better!!!

Check out this link: these pics (the four of them) were taken with a Fuji Disposabal underwater camera. Click the arrow to see the pics from Captain Marvins....

Years ago I was told the "rule" about Fuji being better with blues and greens while Kodak is better with reds and gold tones. I've always been able to remember because of their packaging: Fuji is green with blue while Kodak is gold with red. I'll be going with the Fuji disposable available at Walmart. We used one on a trial run this summer in Gramma's pool and the pictures were great. Well, they were at least as good as pictures taken by a group of crazed 11 year old boys can be.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help with this...I will definately get Fuji....I want the blues & greens for the ocean...I will use my digital for eveything else....Thanks again!!:)

One more thought (sorry to add to the fray!) but at Target they sell non-disposable underwater cameras for about $15. I am going to buy 2 of them and then use Fuji film. I hate the waste of the disposables, not to mention that I know we will use them again . We went through 2 just on one day at Typhoon Lagoon last year.

One other tidbit. We went on a Capt Marvin's excursion and several of us were using the Fuji cameras. We got them mixed up and one guy tried to walk off with ours... probably figured he was gonna make sure he had his pics even if he had ours too! We had to "convince him" to hand one over and he then just took a guess! Luckily we had ours!!!

I developed the pics onboard... they were awesome! So much so I had one blown up while on board! The blues of the water in the Caymens is indescribable.

Moral of this torrid tale: Somehow label your camera with a sharpie or keep it attached to your person!

I always use my stick on address labels, and stick a couple on each of the cameras so there would be no confusion on who a camera would belong to!

Based on all your replies, I am taking my Kodak disposables back and trading them for Fujis....

One important lesson I did learn the hard way about disposable cameras....the photo store I get my pics developed told me to ALWAYS buy a name brand disposable camera. The risk of problems, and ruined pics and not very good pics is so much higher with a non-name brand camera. So, when I do buy disposable, I buy Kodak. (and now Fuji)

ANother thing....put address labels with your name and address on your film canisters...this is in case you lose your film. Friends of ours always did this, and then on the return flight from two weeks in the Med, they lost a bag with about 16 rolls of film. Whoever found them, mailed the canisters to my friend without so much as asking for money or anything...just doing a good deed.

TWO WEEKS for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a great idea about the address labels on the canisters of film - I would be depressed for years if I lost 16 rolls of film!

Thanks for the tidbit
