Hi all. New to the forum and planning our first trip for 8/26 to 9/1. Me (mom) and two boys (5 and 8). We are not doing free dining and I am hoping for a good room discount so we can stay at a deluxe. Since we are not doing FD and I want to stay flexible I plan on doing breakfast in the room and QS for lunch and dinner (maybe a few TS if we can get in without a reservations - but that doesn't look good!!!). I was planning on parks in the AM, pool and rest in the afternoon and some more park in the PM. I am hoping I don't have to spring for park hoppers. What's the best deluxe for QS options - keep in mind we also want a good pool!
Thx.

Hi! Welcome to the Disboards.

Until you mentionned that you don't want to pay for park hoppers, I was going to suggest the Beach Club or Yacht Club. They are within walking distance of EPCOT and the many, many QS restaurants in that park. They also have the best pool.

Without park hoppers you will have to rely quite heavily on the restaurants at your resort. None of the deluxes have great QS locations. The food is fine, but they are small locations with limited menus (nothing compared to the food courts at the values). Deluxes have more TS locations.

I would stay at the BC/YC and get park hoppers. You'd have maximum flexibility and great dining a short walk away.

Two of our favorites are Roaring Forks at the WL and Captain Cooks at the Poly. Both resorts are in a great location and both have great pools, IMO. The Poly is great with having the beach for watching the fireworks and the monorail for getting to MK, but the WL is just as nice having the boat :goodvibes. The Poly would be our first choice as we love the larger rooms and love having a daybed, but the WL runs a close second ;).

Our favorite is Captain Cooks at the Poly. Poly happens to be our favorite resort overall as well. Of course, the mods have far better food courts, but as far as Deluxe QS go, Captain Cooks has been our fave!

Thx for the suggestions - this board is the best. While I would rather not pay for park hoppers I am afraid we would get bored of the options at just one resort - otherwise both WL and Poly look great. On the other hand, will I really want to walk over to Epcot every night for dinner. So many decisions!:confused3

Are you committed to the idea of a deluxe? I've stayed at both deluxe and moderate resorts, and with the ages of your children, it's possible that they might enjoy a moderate resort even more than a deluxe. The moderates have more extensive food courts with lots of choices that appeal to children. POR, in particular, has a large food court that is popular with families. In addition, POR and POFQ are conveniently located near DTD, and the short boat ride can be entertaining for children. DTD has fantastic choices for counter service, especially Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich.

The World Showcase counter-service options (and restaurants) might not appeal to your children, and it's a long walk from Beach Club to Future World.

I love the deluxe resorts, but the atmosphere and counter-service options might not be as appealing to young children. I also love the moderates and never feel as if I'm missing anything found at the deluxes. Whichever resort you choose (deluxe, moderate, value), your children will love WDW.

MinnieGolf, thx for the helpful reply. I'm not committed to Deluxe. I've been leaning that way because I want to minimize transport time back and forth to the parks. So I was thinking CR, BC/YC, Poly or WL. I was hoping CS choices might help me actually make a decision between the 4. I'm probably overthinking it and should just make up my mind!

I know what you mean about overthinking! I was tempted to address the transportation issues, but I decided to limit my response to this one true statement: Whichever resort you choose you'll have a magical time. Each resort has its pros/cons, and the pros/cons will be different for each guest! Just choose the one that fits your budget and looks like the most fun to you and your children. You can't go wrong!

Have a wonderful time! :wizard:

We have stayed Poly, GF and CR. To us, staying on the monorail made our counter service options plentiful. We knew the QS menus at all three of the resorts. If we did not want something at our home resort, it was very easy to take the monorail to the neighboring resort. This gave a lot of variety when we were not having a TS meal.

While the Epcot resorts are beautiful and we had a great stay at the BC, this is exactly why we haven't stayed over there again. We like having CS options right at the resort. There are some choices at those resorts, but it is very limited......it's nothing like the other deluxes. We are contemplating a BWI stay in the future, but limited CS options keep us from doing that. We love the MK area resorts and I just wanted to add that if you stay at the Poly or WL, you can eat at any of the monorail resorts without traveling a long distance. Good luck deciding :wizard:.

We have stayed at WL and have found the CS to be fine. However, we are very bland eaters, so any CS will really do for us. We're staying at Poly this summer since our youngest is now 3 and we're considered 5 guests even though all 3 children can fit into one double bed let alone a queen one. We are looking forward to being forced to try a new resort since my DH hates change. We did go to Poly on our last visit knowing that we were going to be kicked out of WL w/out getting a suite. We do really like the resort and Captain Hooks is about the same size as Roaring Forks. Remember, though, we really don't mind the limited choices. So it really depends on your family's needs.

Thanks to all of you for the advice. Great tip about being able to use CS at any of the monorail resorts. Monorail it will be. Now to decide which one .....

We loved the Poly's Captian Cooks for quick service, but as others have said the options are not huge. We took the monorail to GF and checked out the resort and ate there.

The Poly is a great location for taking an afternoon break, being able to walk to the TTC makes it so easy to get around.

Our favorite monorail resort is the Poly (partly because of the walk to the TTC and direct access to Epcot monorail), and we LOVE Captain Cook's, though it is small. We always wish we could eat more meals here...but we end up hungry for lunch when we are still in whatever park. You might find yourself having at least one meal per day in whichever park you're at, which will give you that variety you might be looking for, and the other at your resort or one of the other resorts you can easily reach.

The CR might be nice for you, because you could take a nice boat ride over to Roaring Fork (which we also really enjoy, though, again, choices are limited), the monorail to the other monorail resorts, or walk to the MK bus depot to get to any resort on property in a flash. Mara at AKL has some terrific, unique choices.

It is very hard to gage what is best for you here. The cost of a deluxe is more then twice that of a Moderate. With that you have so many more options by going mod. The savings alone will get you either a FP or more nights or both.
Minniegolf has it right on with POR. A large food court with many options esp. for children and the boat to DTD opens up those options with QS and TS. POR also has TS and I have found that walkups there are not to bad. If you are not doing PH this may be the best bet.

On the other hand if you can get a 40% off at the POLY then go for it. Hope you find just what you want for your family!
