Which day for Universal?

My DH and I will be heading the DL on July 11 (a Wednesday) and returning home late Monday.

My DH is not as big a Disney fan as I am. (he has fun when we are there, but it's not his be all and end all of theme parks.) So to placate him, I have planned a day at Universal (with the front of line passes, etc). Neither one of us have been to Universal before.

So my question is, which day should we head over?

We arrive to DL around 10:30 in the morning on Wednesday, so almost a full day in the park that day, and we leave late afternoon on Monday. We are staying at PPH.

Also in the summer, is Fantasmic performed nightly? He actually really enjoyed that and WOC. (We will splurge for the dessert seating when we see it again.)

Yes Fantasmic! is nightly, an early show and later show. WoC may show 3 times a night this summer.

Since you are doing a FOTL pass for Universal go on Saturday. That will be the biggest crowd day at both parks. Let DH enjoy the FOTL at US, and not suffer for you in the biggest DLR crowds.

I would just make sure you have your tickets ahead of time. We have been there twice - once on a city pass and the other time we just bought at the gate. The line to buy at the gate was painful and slow moving. Much worse than anything I have experienced at DL.

You do know that Universal is not super close to Disneyland? Just an FYI

Yes, I did know this, that is why we are taking one full day there (or the majority of one day.)

And we do have the tickets already...I booked a package through Disney, and opted for an add-on.

I vote for Saturday for Universal. Mostly because of traffic. Weekdays it will take you forever to get there. Sat morn should be an easy drive. And we did the FOTL a few years back and loved it. We thought it was well worth it if you only have one day to see and experience everything. Have wonderful vacation. :)

I would normally say Thursday, but with FOLP Sat would be the best but USH will be busy. We have gone numerous times since I am into old horror movies.

Awesome! My DH loves the old horror movies as well. And he's really excited about the new Transformers ride.

I agree with Blackjackdelta. But I have to say in my honest opinion as I have done this and regret it... Dont go to Disneyland and up all your days there first and go to do Universal on your last day. If you cant go back to Disneyland one more time and see the things you enjoy one more time it may be heartbreaking. Universal is fun and I have been back there several times, but I enjoy Disneyland way more and to think I could not get back into the park and say goodbye especially staying right across the street from it, was devastating. So I think its great you are taking this "Which day" into consideration. :goodvibes

We love the Tranformer movies and can not wait to do the ride, we absolutely love the tour and sites like the place where the donkey and the blacksmith were filmed for POTC 1, the Bates motel, the prop wearhouse, Greys Anatomy set, Desparate Housewives(never seen the program.) and much more. We always do this mid week and then finish off with Disney again before we leave. Oh, by the way, we got to spend about 20 minutes talking with Hugh Jackman and another day another year we talked with Scoobie and Shaggy and Kate Beckinsale. Chance runnin but the kids loved it.

Have fun,

Jack

Good point!! We have six day passes to DL, so even if by chance we only spent half a day there, we could still do Disney after. If we go Saturday, we will still have Sunday and a good part of Monday.

You got it dude! :thumbsup2

If your OH is interested more in the movie making sets etc rather than the rides then I would opt for a weekday. The studio tour part always seems really dead on the weekends whereas there is always plenty happening on the backlot on weekdays
