Which cd to copy photos?

My computer is making funny noises.

I want to burn cds of all my photos I have stored on it before it crashes and/or I get a new one.

I must have the wrong cds. It's taking 2 & 3 to do one major event/holiday. Christmas took 2. Our last Disney trip took 3 (about 200 photos). The disks say 700 mB. My camera card is only 1G.

Did I buy the wrong cds or is that all the photo that fit on one?

How many times have you copied over photos from that 1G card? If you have a Windows XP computer put your cursor over the photo. It should show how much memory each photo takes. Can you burn DVDs? That would probably be a better option. My JPEGs run about 4-7MB and NEF (Raw) is about 9MB per photo. It adds up pretty fast. An even better option is to buy an external hard drive. It's so much easier to copy the photos over and no need to worry about multiple DVDs or CDs.

I use the dvd+rw to back up photos and can get quite a few on 1 dvd. CD's dont have near as much space as the dvd's. You might be better off getting an external hard drive to back them up until you can put them on dvd. I just picked up a Western Digital 1tb external at Staples for $139.

an external will hold much more than a thumb drive and is more economical..

nope, an external drive is bigger..

thumb drives will hold maybe 16 gigs at most... whereas you can get an external drive that will hold up to 1 TB or even 1.5 TB

an external drive is basically a hard drive, like the one inside your pc, they are in enclosures and connect to your pc via your usb port, it's like adding another hard drive to your pc, without having to open your PC's case.

you can also get smaller portable drives, which are basically a laptop drive in an enclosure,

I have both, the larger drives are more economical..

I paid 129 for a 320 gig portable drive..

and I paid 109 for a 1TB external drive..

the WD drive mentioned by spinetnglr, is a decent price..
