Which building at CSR?

Hi! So my family and I are traveling to the World in July. We are doing a split stay and the first half of our trip we are staying at CSR. The last time we stayed here was 2001 and we do not remember much about. My question is which building should we request? Ranchos, Cabanas, or Casitas? We are driving so the proximity to transportation isn't a big deal. TIA!

I just did the online check-in and they didn't have a selection to request the Casitas but they did for Cabanas and Ranchos. So you might need to call and request Casitas if you want it. Since transportation is not an option, what do you want to be closer to, the main pool or the front desk/restaurants?

Toss up between Casitas and Cabanas for me. Ranchos is too far removed from everything for us.

Casitas are close to the first bus stop for pick up and drop off and also close to El Centro. However, unless you book a preferred room, your chances are slim at getting a Casitas room and if you do, you'll be lumped in with conventioneers. Also a decent walk to the main pool.

Cabanas are nicer aesthetically to us and some buildings are close to El Centro. All are close to the main pool. However, they're on the last bus stop so whenever we used that bus stop, we usually ended up standing on the bus.

As stated above, certain spots are good for certain preferences.

Aesthetically this would be our choice.

1) Ranchos
2) Cabanas
3) Casitas

For convenience to El Centro (Non BC/Pref)

1) Casitas
2) Cabanas
3) Ranchos

Obviously Ranchos is closest to the main pool, but some cabanas are close as well.

Busing isn't an issue here for you, but I might add, That this place has THE BEST Bus service out of all resorts.

In your case I'd say Cabanas, but we personally loved our Casitas 3 location. It was a short walk to El Centro, & the quiet pool, & the Spa/Laundry area, & the bus stop ( for returning from the park ) Only far from the main pool. But a really nice walk...

I checked the Cabanas on the online check-in. If you are wanting to be closer to El Centro, you can choose Cabanas or Casitas. As noted I did not see an option to pick Casitas as a request with the online check-in. as a bonus, Cabanas are also relatively close to the main pool.

I think this is because 3 of the 5 Casitas buildings are preferred, and the remaining 2 are usually blocked for convention groups. Last time I was there, I had Casitas noted on my request and they explained Casitas requests are difficult to fill usually because they can't separate group blocks.

I chose Cabanas at online check-in for our trip a few weeks ago but we ended up in a Rancho. I was a little disappointed at first but honestly our room location was awesome (building 6A). We were super close to the main pool area where you can refill your mug and get breakfast as well as the Ranchos bus stop. We never felt the need to go to El Centro at all (unless we wanted to do some souvenir shopping). I didn't think the Ranchos were that bad!

I recently discovered this in another thread...When we were heading to CSR back in 2010 for some reason we kept saying to ourselves , please please anything but Ranchos, Anything but Ranchos, and thats what we got 7A. I asked at the counter if we could be moved and they gave us Casitas 3. At the time we were thrilled & the whole trip was great..

But after seeing how nicely set up it was and how beautifully themed Ranchos is & more relaxing, along with the breakfast options & mug refills, we keep saying now that we shoulda just stuck it out, & we might have had a better time ( kinda Hard for that but ) Either way, if we do ever get to venture back there, we're staying in the Ranchos section, FOR SURE!!!

Last year we stayed in Casitas 4 on the side facing the quiet pool. It was a great location for buses since it's the first stop we always got a seat. If you are using the laundry or gym the location is fantastic. Close walk to main lobby. The only negative is it is a fair walk to the main pool. It's as close as you can get to preferred without having to pay the premium.
