Hi all,
Going to Universal this July. 4th visit to Orlando but 1st time in the summer.
My wife gets bitten loads in the UK so she's worried about the mosquitoes over there.
I have read some posts about DEET & that it really works.
Does anyone know UK brands which have this stuff & how effective it is.
Cheers.

I'm not sure if you can get insect repellent with DEET in it in England.
We bought some in Walmart last time we were in Florida. There were several different makes and they came in sprays and creams. We bought a spray and it was excellent.

Cant help with the repellant but hopefully can add a bit of re-assurance.

I am a magnet for midgies in this countries and when we were in Thailand over Christmas I was eaten alive by mosquitos despite always asking for mosquito coils to be placed around me - I have never been bitten by a mosquito in Florida.

They do lots of spraying that seems pretty effective.

Latte,
Which brand did you go for? I'll look out for it over there.

Glad to hear about the effective spraying!

What have people found to be the most effective brand that can be bought in the UK?

Quite a lot of British products contain DEET. Last time I used TESCO's own brand spray.

We got bug spray from Boots with DEET in. They also do one without and a natural one as well :)

I also get eaten alive in this country and every other country by damn mossies, so I duly packed about 4 bottles of bug spray for Florida, forgot to put it on the first day and didn't get so much as a mossie landing on me, let alone bitting me. I was :cool1: - made my holiday!

boots do a spray with deet in it.
but the best thing is avons (sss) skin so soft dry oil spray it has an insect repellant in it and will keep all the bugs away.
i have mine allready for our holiday in april.

it was on special offer 2 for one..
it really works..

We have been to Orlando many times and never been bitten....until this year. We got bitten on our last night and I think I may have been while standing on the bridge in Magic Kingdom watching Wishes. Everyone elses settled down, but mine (I usually get hunted down if there are any around!!!), I ended up going to out of hours emergency back home and had to be put on penicillin. Still got the scars! So will definitely be packing the 'Mosquito Milk' this year :(

just thought i'd mention that you shoul put it on in a VERY well ventilated area (preferably outside). i sprayed mine in our hotel room last holiday and a)it made us both have an asthma attack, and b) it tasts rank if you breath it in! i had to go outside and hold my breath then spray really quickly! it was really effective though, my boyfriend wouldnt wear it because of his asthma but it didnt affect mine so much. it didnt smell either, which was good. mine was from boots,

You can buy 'Moquito Milk' from Boots, it's about £8.00. It is a white liquid in a roll on bottle. The instructions recommend that you run the roller down your legs, arms and across your forehead One application for the day! We have used it for the last 4 years or so on holidays in Europe with great success. I don't know if it contains the ingredient DEET which is being referred to in this thread.

you can get mosquitoe milk from boots its about £7 and contains deet and its great. I was reccomended by my mother in law who goes thailand, goa everywhere she swears by it and so do i now!

I get bitten sooooo badly but not once when wearing this stuff! :sunny:

Off makes bug spray with Deet. Also Off makes a plant based repellent called Botanicals. It's a cream, it doesn't smell horrible like the regular bug sprays with Deet and it really works.

apparently david attenborough uses avons skin so soft all over body moisturiser when trekking in the jungle. I've heard Judith Chalmers also swears by this. As a fortunate person who never gets bitten (even on my many african adventures) I've never found anyone to experiment with this and see if it works. Any volunteers out there?

i posted this earlier on....
it definately works. i allways take mine with me.. it has something in it that is an insect repellant.. but i use the skin so soft dry oil spray...
lovely smell too.
no insects will bother you with this on ..
