Not trying to be rude, but are those the only 2 options?

As a guy, I don't know that I would want either name.

I would definitely go with "trendier" so that it goes well with your Kylie!!!

OP, are those the only names you are deciding on? If so, I would go with Cohen as vs. Preston.

Found this on BabyNames.com

Cohen is either a Jewish surname from the Hebrew 'kohen' (priest) or an anglicised Irish surname from 'Ó Cadhan' (descendant of Cadhan).

Cohen is not a personal name in Hebrew. In the Jewish faith, a kohen is assumed to be a direct male descendant of the Biblical Aaron, brother of Moses.

During the existence of the Temple in Jerusalem, kohanim performed specific duties vis-à-vis the daily and festival sacrificial offerings. The Kohen Gadol (High Priest) played a special role during the service of Yom Kippur. Today, kohanim retain a distinct personal status within Judaism and are still bound by special laws in Orthodox and, to a lesser extent, in Conservative Jewish communities. For this reason many observant Jews find the use of Cohen as a first name disrespectful.

You don't like Blake as a first? I love that.

Cohen Jacob is great.

I have also known some not so fabulous Prestons.

I'm glad you looked it up. I could only think of Cohen as the last name of a Jewish family. I would hate for part of the population to think my kid's name was an insult to their faith. :sad1:

I have to say I cannot stand either one of them. Sorry. Preston sounds too "Britney Spears" for me. And pretty feminine??!?

Cohen - I see "Cone", "Colon", etc. Do not like it.

Have you tried nymbler.com?

Here's other ones that came up that (IMO) aren't horrible.

Bennett
Carson
Nathaniel
Brady
Easton
Keaton
Jackson
Dylan

Good luck!!

I have never heard of Cohen as a first name, but I don't dislike it. I like Preston better, but Cohen is nice. My first thought was it was of Jewish ancestry. Not that that makes any difference, just my take on the name. :)

I don't really care for either as a first name. If I had to choose from those 2, I'd pick Cohen. I agree that you'd need a "traditional" name to go with it...maybe Michael or William? My friend was named the same way you describe...Elizabeth was the ONLY name her parents could agree on!

I picked Cohen, because Preston sounds very pretentious to me, but I'm honestly not wild about either. I'd rather have Cohen as a middle name, like Michael Cohen or David Cohen, etc.

Like someone mentioned, if he's going to get picked on at the playground, Conehead would be an easy nickname.

We have friends with a Braxton and all I can think of every time I hear his name is Braxton Hicks contractions--it isn't a good thing.

::yes::

I like Preston. I like Jacob, but not Elijah.

OP here.

Alright. Thanks for your opinions. It was dh's idea to make this into a poll and I warned him that it could get brutal and lots of people would be critical. Poor man doesn't listen! Thanks anyway...esp. to those who actually told me which one they liked better of the 2! :)

P.S. I do think I will add a note in the OP that says why we aren't using Blake as a first name. I did mention that in another post but it looks like some people missed that since people are still suggesting it. Like I said, we do like the name but it isn't an option. Going to add a note about it now. Thanks again! I think I've gotten all the info. that I wanted and needed and then some, lol! ;)

I would not use Cohen unless you are of Jewish heritage. (Unless you happen to like Jewish last names as a first name for your gentile kid. ) Cohen is a very common Jewish last name. Just doesn't make sense to me to use it as a first name for a kid unless it is a family name, or maybe you or your husband are of Jewish heritage and lean toward Jewish names. There is a very popular prrepy clothes store in Baltimore named Cohen's that has been around for decades. There are pages and pages of Cohen's in the Baltimore white pages.

I would go with Preston Blake.

Have you thought of names that could be both considered Biblical and trendy? Maximillian Colby is a popular saint, and Max is trendy. So is Colby for that matter.

I like the sound of Cohen, but I've been told it is offensive to the Jewish community to name your child Cohen. I can't say I like Preston. It just reminds me too much of Britney Spears.

I guess Rowan or Ronan are out?

I think Preston Blake sounds too pretentious. If you're going with a trendy name (not a fan here), I think you need a traditional name to balance it out. When naming our children, I pictured them as tall, thin, attractive, and successful, and how the names would work, and then I pictured them short, fat, and nerdy, and how the names would work. Ended up with Kate, Anna, Jack, and Charlie!:thumbsup2

Hey, what's wrong with being short, fat, and nerdy?:confused3 ;)

This is going to sound crazy silly, but have you tried asking the baby? Tonight right before you go to sleep ask him which name he likes best. When you wake up you may just have your answer. I tried that with DS and came up with Nick (Well Nicholas, but he goes by Nick now) and that name fits him to a "T". Of course that was all the wacky eighties new age mumbo jumbo :goodvibes

Okay all the wacky new age mumbo jumbo aside:

I am with a previous poster, you will probably just know the answer when he is born. I debated like crazy before my DD was born and ended up with a name we had not even discussed. She just looked like a Kendall. To this day she looks like a Kendall to me:goodvibes

These are both what I was thinking. There isn't a good way to shorten Preston either and it can be hard for little kids to have really long names with no way to use a shorter version to write and say if they want to.

Just something to keep in mind. I tend to be more like you (instead of DH). My DH is even more conservative towards baby names then me.

I think boy names are hard. You have to come up with one you never dated, had a crush on or broke your heart.

Good luck, I know I wasn't much help. :rolleyes1

Out of the names you both like I would switch them to Blake Cohen:)

That's what I was going to say!

I think Cohen is too close of a name as your daughters.

My sister has girls named Emmie, Annie and Ellie...It drives her and everyone else crazy!

Congrats. Geez, I've been here a long time as I remember when you first posted that you were expecting your first. She is gorgeous btw. Can't help with the name choice as I don't like either, sorry. I think you should tell dh to rethink (lol) his veto of your ideas. Elijah, while biblical and old-fashioned, is often shortened to Eli which is now on the rise again as "trendy". Kylie and Eli sound good together too.
