We are currently pregnant with our 2nd child and are expecting a boy. It has been WWIII agreeing on a name this time around. I am leaning toward more classic, biblical names this time (Elijah and Jacob for example) but dh hates them.

He seems to like trendier names (Braxton for example) and I am not a fan of most of his choices. So to make a long story short, we went through multiple baby name books, several baby naming websites, etc. and we have only been able to agree on a total of 2 baby names out of the thousands we have seen! Our tastes just do not match on boy's names (ironically, we agree on girl names so doesn't that just figure?!) so agreeing on 2 names is a miracle.

Anyway, our choices are either Cohen (pronounced like Co-en) or Preston Blake. We haven't agreed on a middle name for Cohen at this point. Dh likes Blake for it too but I don't. Preston Blake works for me though on that choice if we were to go with Preston.

Dh likes Cohen the best but I'm still not sure. We have a dd named Kylie and I worry that Cohen and Kylie are too similar in sound but I have been told that they aren't that close. BUT on the plus side, it is not a really popular name so I don't worry about my ds becoming a Cohen J. and having other Cohens in his class so much.

As far as Preston, it is gaining in popularity and finally made the top 100 baby names list for 2007 (#97) so I worry about my ds being one of many Prestons but it's still not a deciding factor overall I guess. Kylie was not a really popular name when we came up with it in 2005. Her name had just made the top 100 list and was at 90 something that year. By 2007, it is now #32 on the list. I worry Preston will do the same thing. BUT I wouldn't change Kylie's name and still love it so I suppose that is not a big deal in the long run for me. Besides, Elijah and Jacob are both extremely popular and I still would have used those. Yes, I am definitely overanalyzing things, lol!

Anyway, the baby will definitely have one of those 2 names since it's all we can agree on but now we aren't sure which one to go with and I am having the hardest time deciding. I like them both and just can not decide!

What do you think? Which one do you like best? If you like Cohen, then what middle name would you suggest with it? Thanks for your opinions!

ETA: Thought I should add this in the OP since it keeps coming up. I posted about it in another post but that seems to have been skipped by most people I think. Anyway, using Blake as a first name is not an option since dh's cousin named his son that. We do like the name but it would be too confusing to have 2 Blakes in the family which is why we are thinking about using it for a middle name instead. Thought I should clarify! The choices are still going to be either Preston or Cohen.

We have friends with a Braxton and all I can think of every time I hear his name is Braxton Hicks contractions--it isn't a good thing.

I know a couple Preston's and frankly they are brats so it would be really hard to name a child that knowing these other kids.

As for having another kid with his name in his class, good luck. You are better off going with more traditional names for that :rotfl2: . We have a Michael and up until his sophomore year in high school he has never had another Michael in anything, go figure.

There are 3 boys named Grayson in our twins' grade this year.

I am not into the biblical names or the really trendly names. I do like Presten Blake.

I dont like Cohen.. I can see kids calling him Colon Cohen.. I always have to look at potential nick names than may come up. I was considering William Phillip for a boys name.. until someone said Willy Philly:crazy2: :crazy2: I did end up using William but used a different middle name.

I agree with the PP, the Prestons that I have come across are pretentious snots.

As for a middle name for Cohen, why don't you go with Blake for that one as well.

Congratulations on your new son!

I like both names, but I like Cohen besy. How about Cohen Robert?

This was my exact thought as well! Just one of several reasons I didn't like it.

I voted for Preston Blake, out of the two. Blake will be our next son's middle name (it's a family name). :thumbsup2

FWIW, I am heavily in favor of classic/traditional/biblical names, but agree with your dh that a biblical boy's name would not go as well with a sister named Kylie as a trendier name. JMO.

My choice for middle name with Cohen would be Mark. Sounds good together, and has the traditional name you wanted. :thumbsup2

I like the name Preston Blake.

I'm actually :rotfl: because I see your due date is June 27th and we're expecting our second child, also a son, on the same day....and Elijah was the name I really liked at first. My one problem with that was I don't like the knickname Eli and since we figured that's what would end up happening, it got nixed.

What's funnier is both Preston and Blake were names I tossed out as possibilities.

Congrats and good luck deciding!

I know you said Cohen for the 1st name but you also like Bibical, for some reason I've got Isaiah Cohen in my mind.

now see when I saw Cohen Mark I think of Walking in Memphis and http://www.marccohn.org/

LOL

I dont have good memories of Prestons either. We have a Kaylee and a ds named Cameron. You can hit traditional but still be trendy.

I like Preston Blake. I like Blake Preston too.

For some reason, Cohen sounds like a middle name to me. William Cohen, Ben Cohen, Christopher Cohen. :upsidedow

Out of the names you both like I would switch them to Blake Cohen:)

I'm not into biblical or trendy names. I like Cohen much better than Preston. Did you consider Blake as a 1st name? I also like the sound of Kylie and Cohen together.

I would do 1 of the names you like & than a traditional name. I did not vote.
Preston Blake sounds like a soap opera name.

Don't overanalyze or sweat it. Once you see him you'll know what his name should be. Good luck.

I vote for Cohen. As a middle name, I would chose something like Matthew or Alexander. Cohen makes me think of Seth Cohen on The OC who I thought was hysterical and who Summer called Cohen sometimes. Good choice. Congratulations!
