We are looking at branching out from the same old Contempory room(as my daughter is now getting older). We are looking at the Boardwalk, Beach Club, and the Yacht Club. When looking at the rooms at the below places are the following rooms just random on which bed setup you get?

Oh no, it's not random at all. You can absolutely reserve a room with the bed layout that you prefer. If it's not clear on the website, just call and clarify before finalizing.

Yeah, I must not be looking right on the website because I cannot see where to pick which layout. Thank you again.

You cannot reserve the layout that you want. If you have 5 in your group, you should be assigned a 2 queen/daybed room. If you have a party of 1 or 2, they will most likely try to put you in a 1 queen or 1 king bed room in order to save the 2 queen and 2 queen/day beds for larger parties. The only thing you can do is request the layout you want, but there are zero guarantees you will be assigned that room.

If you call, they'll definitely put you down for the layout you want if it's available.

Yep, this is what I was afraid of. No way I am making a request on the bed setup and hoping I get it, lol. I am 1 out of 3 on reservation requests at the Contemporary through touring plans.

This is interesting, and something I have never thought much about when traveling with my 2 kids, as we always get assigned a room with 2 queens and sometimes a day bed, depending on the resort. This fall my husband and I are taking our first trip together without kids. We prefer to have our own beds. Is there a decent possibility we could be assigned a king bed because we are a married couple without kids? We are staying at the Contemporary. Thanks to the original poster for the question. I guess it would apply to any resort at Disney with multiple room configurations.

I don't know how many king rooms there are at the CR, but you can always put in a request for 2 queens. When you check in, if you are given something other than 2 queens, you can always ask if a room with 2 queens is available. It's not guaranteed your room can be changed, but it never hurts to ask.

There's more rooms with "2 queens" than there are with one king.
I think you have a higher chance of getting 2 queens than the King bed.

I was there with 2 friends a couple of years ago at Yacht Club. We assumed all rooms had the daybed, so we would each have our own bed. Much to our surprise when we got to the room, there wasn't one. Had to go back to the front desk and ask for a change. We did get one.

What layout are you hoping to get? Maybe we can help with resort/room category suggestions that will fit the bill.

Yes, there is a possibility you will be assigned a king bed, however, most king rooms at CR also have a day bed (accept one category of king in the main tower in CL). There are also some categories in the garden wing that only have 2 queens and a daybed Which category did you book at CR?

We booked a Bay Lake View in the tower (non club level). I’m trying to decide now if I want to switch to the CL GDT deluxe suite (king bed and queen pull out sofa) guaranteed or stick with the CR and try requesting 2 queen beds. I have become a really restless sleeper and have this terrible tendency of kicking the heck out of my poor husband in my sleep. I used to sleepwalk, but thank goodness that has not happened in over 10 years! Sorry to the original poster for hijacking your thread.

What is it you want if not at least 2 beds? If you have 3 people you won't be assigned a King room without a day bed too.

If you request 2 queens the odds are so great in your favor you'll get it
They do not have many King rooms at the Deluxe resorts, which is why assume there are so few ways to book them.
We request King all the time and rarely get it. It's not make or break, it's the only request we make. We don't care if we have one or not really.

I've been assigned a king when I wanted 2 queens and was able to ask at the front desk for a change. They were able to honor my request and we actually got an upgraded room.

Yeah, that is usually an easy one to fix for them. It's the other way around that isn't so easy. Usually, the King rooms are all booked up.
A lot of them are also HA rooms (1 bed affords more room for wheelchairs)

It's entirely possible that a couple would be assigned a king bed but there tend not to be too many of them in any resort. We have had a king bed a number of times just assigned but we also have made requests so I don't recall how many we got just randomly. I would put in a request for two queens so that they know you don't actually want a king bed. Also now may depend on the resort; we stayed in AKL earlier this month and it was a bookable category. Although we often now want two queens, I find the rooms at AKL a bit on the small side and figured that a king room would give us more elbow room; I'm actually glad we did because it definitely felt more spacious to me.

I knew I had seen standard King rooms as a category somewhere. I think maybe one other has them too, WL? It's not many, though I don't really understand why. Why can't you book it anywhere? Even if it's only a few? Odd.

I think you might be right about WL but I'd have to check. King bed as a bookable category is new at AKL and I think that they're renovated rooms that used to be the bunk bed bookable category which is being retired. We were in a pool view king room. We used to book Savannah view but I liked the location of the room we had so we may continue with this category now especially as I now know that they're renovated. The other side of the pool view (Giraffe Trail) was also being renovated when we were there.
