Have been hearing great reviews for both the Hoop Dee Doo Review and Mickey's Backyard BBQ. I want to choose one to take my 7 and 8 yr old sons when we go in November. Which one gets the vote?

We have done the Hoop De Doo a number of times and have loved it. We are going to WDW for the first time ever in the summer next week, and are going to try the Backyard BBQ for my son's 9th birthday. It has never been running in any of our past trips, so we wanted to try it. I have heard a lot of good things about it. Are you sure the BBQ is running in Nov.? You may want to look into this. Our last trip was in Nov. (2000), and it was not being held then. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Hoop Dee Doo. It is the best dinner show at WDW. It is a stage show themed in an old western show house and the best dinner show at WDW. The Backyard Barbeque is outdoors (under a large roofed area with park like benches). It has a country and western band and characters to sign autographs. However, unless you really like country music and line dancing, it is not impressive.

We went to the Backyard BBQ with DS, 21 month, in November last year, so it was running, maybe just limited schedule.

Of all the shows I've been to, I was least impressed with this one, both food and character interaction. There were hundreds of people and only a few times to talk to the characters, so we didn't even try to get up there.

There was a nice variety of food, but just picture a large company picnic and you'll see the menu. I think you get better food value other places.

Also, we found out when we got to Fort Wilderness that we had to take a bus (long ride) to the show. We weren't prepared, packed up the babies things fast and missed the bus. We were late and nearly didn't get in. Needless to say, I was probably too tired and hassled to enjoy it in any case.

Sorry to be a downer, but this is really the only unmagical (is that a word?) moment that we've experienced in over 20 years at Disney World. Many of the folks around us seemed to be having a great time. Maybe it was just my expectations that were out of line.

The Hoop Dee Doo is a delight. And one of the toughest tickets in all The World. Go!

The food is good, not great, but plentiful and filling -- ribs and fried chicken and some pretty nifty strawberry shortcake for dee-zert.

But the show is lots of fun, and they really go all out to involve the audience and see that everyone has a good time. We've been twice and enjoyed it both times.

It's hokey, and it's broad, and it's breezy. (Think "Hee Haw" meets "Golden Horsehoe Revue.") The idea is that a troup of travelling players is coming through town, and they all set their western vaudeville show in the Pioneer Hall. They make a big deal out of people having birthdays and sing a lot of familiar old songs ("Darling Clementine," among others -- and a title tune that will stick with you long after "It's a Small World" has faded from memory -- ha!)

Enjoy! :p

Hoop Dee Doo is a WDW classic, it is a lot of fun. The food is good, not great but good basic food. It is better food, IMO than the backyard barbeque and a lot more fun.
