We got a pool this year, it is 18' x 33' X 54" oval. We have wedding style steps for it. We did get an automatic pool cleaner with it. It does not work well at all. It gets stuck on the steps. It gets stuck against a wall when the hose does not allow it to move. I was vacuming it manually, but after it got really hot here, the hose was outside-that hose now at times squeezes closed from the suction of the sand filter. I think the heat hurt that hose somehow.

Today I got into the pool and led the automatic cleaner around for the entire time. I went to ask.com and read about automatic pool cleaners. The disboard is very helpful, so what automatic cleaner do you have that you like and that works well and you think would work for us? We have country well water if that matters. Thank you for your help. I did ask at different pool stores they each just wanted to sell us their most expensive model.

We got an above ground pool 3 years ago and purchased the pool rover with it. It was expensive but it works amazingly well. We have had it for 3 summers and have had no problems with it at all. There is a lot of sand in the pool because we live near the beach and it is able to get that up too with no problem.

I think in the long run it will save us money because we do not have to change the earth that is in the filter often at all.

Good luck!

Here's another vote for the pool rover! :thumbsup2 I believe that we have the junior size. It works great! Our backyard is wooded...and it gets everything off of the bottom...highly recommended! (BTW...we have 24ft. round pool with steps into the water.)

Your auto cleaner sounds like my Kontiki, that we got free with the pool package. It has an unnatural attraction to the steps and the pool is always very clean in one area. I use it mostly before we put the steps in when we open the pool. It works better with nothing in the pool. imho

We've found that manual vacuuming is best. I do suggest using the nylon covers for the skimmer when vacuuming. They catch all the junk that you vacuum up. I put one on before I clean and take it off when I'm done to rinse it out.

Good luck finding an auto cleaner...
