Which 2nd park for a 6-year old and a grandparent?

I will defer to Universal....only 3 days...wow...not much time...anyway..if you go to Universal/IOA you should buy the 2 PARK- 1 day ticket so you can experience all things at WWoHP...(wizarding world of harry potter..) especially the train ride over to Diagon Alley...it's alot for one day but you have little choice...it is totally awesome tho...rest on day 2 and go to MK magic kingdom on your third day....
I'm mixed on Universal... I remember the old Universal of the early '90s, and that appealed to me more than what they seem to have on offer now. There's more theming (based on attending a conference that rented out IOA one year and the main park a different year) but the rides seem to have been converted to either mostly height based thrill rides (which as an acrophobic I have issues) or small kiddie rides. The 'family' rides of old, like Jaws, the King Kong one, Back to the Future, etc.. have all been removed, leaving our family in particular not much we'd want to do there. I would really love to immerse the kids in the Harry Potter world, because it really is excellent theming, but that's a pretty big price tag to just get some theming if you're not going to do the rides.

I'm on board with Animal Kingdom. There is so much to see and do without riding anything. I went with my 6 year-old DGS, and we totally loved Wilderness Explorers. the animal trails, Lion King, Nemo and the bird show with Russell and Dug. If grandparent is like me, and doesn't mind walking (I have two new robotic knees, according to my grandson!), it is a beautiful park with so many details to soak up.

Why are you going to WDW? Your son isn't into Disney characters or movies. Grandma won't do much (73 isn't really very old; I'll be 70 next month and I have a ball). Is it for you and your spouse? It's a really expensive trip if no one is really into it.

I would do SeaWorld and such a great place to take a six year old (petting the stingrays, feeding dolphins). It's our family's personal favorite for a multi-generational group. It's less expensive than Disney, less crowed than Disney, more relaxed and less planning than a Disney day -- world class shows and animal exhibits all can enjoy together. There are also a few thrill rides that would be fun for anyone into those.

You will have fun with whatever you choose I'm sure.

I think you'll be able to find plenty to see and do in any of the parks. AK is a good choice, but all the other parks would be good choices too.
Expedition Everest was the only non-slow ride that my DD would do when we went when she was 4. (yes, she was tall enough). I made the mistake of diverting to Mission:Space when Test Track was closed, and the closed in space turned her off to just about everything for most of the rest of the trip. AK was our last day and she FINALLY agreed to go on something more intense.
I get motion sick and FoP wasnt a problem. I have bigger issues on Space Mountain and Dinosaur.
We did the Boneyard for the first time during our last trip (kids were 7,4,1) and they all loved it. My Dad loved it because he got to sit still (he was 57, but has since gotten hip replacement surgery).

Overall, my kids have had different awareness of the Disney universe throughout the years, and there has never been a problem keeping their attention at any of the parks.
