His favorite is the YC/BC area. We just fell in love with the BCV's last fall. We love the proximity to Epcot, SAB and just the overall casual elegance of the area. But Polynesian was just too good to pass up for Christmas week...$1562 total (tax inclusive) for 6 nights with a check in of 12/20 and a check out of 12/26. That's for lagoon view Concierge.

Polynesian Pros:

Easy access to monorail and with my 3 kids that's a big plus...especially considering the holiday crowds.

Concierge will be back in Hawaii longhouse and should be back up to it's usual excellent reputation.

24 hour snack counter service.

Volcano pool (in case we have decent weather)

YC Pros:

My husband likes it.

So close to Epcot.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas.

SAB.

So, not sure what he will say. I'm still trying to convince him that we need to go to Disney for Christmas. Wish me luck...

UPDATE: He didn't like it too much...wanted Y/C instead. It's his money I'm spending so he gets to choose! Who cares, right? It's Disney!!

While I have never stayed there, I have been there to eat several times and it is really beautiful. I don't know how anyone could not like that resort. CR is a different story. :) I know alot of people like it but ugh, the decor in that place is awful. IMHO. :)

Good luck in convincing him. I was never able to convince my DH (too crowded for him) so now he is taking our children to visit the inlaws the day after Xmas and I am going with a friend for a week to WDW. Works for me! :p

I think you are going to love it there. I especially loved the concierage. But I have a question-I booked the Polynesian concierage for the same rate you received, but I was told that is was garden view not lagoon view. Are you sure your's is lagoon view concierage? thanks, Carolyn

I can't imagine flat out not liking anything. You and he will be at Disney World! :) He may still prefer the YC, but I seriously doubt that he'll dislike the Polynesian.

You'll have a fantastic time!

Carolyn - You're right, my bad. It is for G/V. BTW, started my serious conversation about this whole scheme this morning after he got back from servicing the van and he just started laughing at me like I'm Lucy Ricardo and want to be in Ricky's nightclub act. I laid out all my sheets with pricing and stressed how much rack rate was for all the resorts. Well, he knew it was a lost cause and started planning it with me and decided that he would prefer Y/C Concierge which is only $40 more per night. That's his personal favorite - our first visit ever was to Y/C concierge and he wants to be blown away visually with the holiday decorations. And since it's his commissions that will be paying for the whole thing, I said "fine...I'll go call and change the ressie now".

So, we're set and the best part is I don't even have to wait for June to get here. No, actually, the best part is that since he found out I have to purchase an AP to get this rate, he still wants to go in June. I'm going to try to make it a 14th anniversary thing, though.

Haven't told the kids - we're going to surprise them when we jump in the van on their last day of school before Christmas break. My son's birthday is Sunday, the 21st. Every year he seems to get gyped out of the whole birthday experience since it is just a few days before Christmas, but we'll sure make up for this year!!

If you have stayed in a one- or two-bedroom villa and are now planning on one room at the Polynesian, my thought, from first-hand experience, is that he may have a problem with "going backwards" on the space. I stayed at the Polynesian on my first visit to WDW and it is a wonderful resort. However, after we have gotten used to the villas (OKW, BC and BW) my husband commented, last Christmas while we were staying at the Polynesian, GV, concierge, that he liked it but would choose one of the villas because it just seemed like such tight quarters.

Don't get me wrong, he was still happy and we had an absolutely wonderful time, but it is always hard to go from more to less space, particularly since you have three children. Maybe if he is mentally prepared for that, and with all of the other "pros" to staying there, he should be fine.

Have a great time!!!

I totally agree about the space. We loved all the room we had at BCV. But there's no way we could come close to the rate we have if we were to rent points. The same week runs 195 points (almost $2000) at BCV and that doesn't even include the Sat. We've stayed concierge our first time at Y/C so he is aware of the space. We'll just have to use the lounge if we feel we need "space" from each other every now and again.

I was so apprehensive about this whole thing...now he's the one getting in the spirit and talking about where we'll eat, visiting all our favorite spots, how we'll accomplish the driving and and where we'll stop along the way....Yay!! I haven't lost my touch.

If you're going back in June, I would really try to get your DH to give the Poly a try. My DW convinced me to try it out on our trip last February, and I reluctantly agreed. I had always thought the the Poly looked old (very 70's-ish) and couldn't believe that Disney still charged fairly high deluxe rates for the resort.
Well, then we actually stayed there....and I loved it! In fact, it's now definitely my favorite WDW resort. It's so completely relaxing. There's nothing better than coming back from a day at the parks, getting off the monorail, and walking to your longhouse along tiki-torch lit pathways or along the beach of the lagoon with the Grand Floridian and Contemporary lights reflecting off the water. You feel miles away from the madness across the lagoon (thousands of people trying to leave the MK at the same time) even though you're really only a few hundred yards away. Watching the MK fireworks from the Poly beach in a hammock is probably one of my favorite WDW memories. And Ohana's--what a great place. You can't beat their wings or peel and eat shrimp.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if I can become a Poly convert, I'm pretty sure most other people can, too.
Have a great trip no matter where you end up! :D

We went to the Poly two years ago and loved it!!! It was so Disney! You will definitely love it!
:earsboy: :sunny:

VickiVM, your plans sound great. I especially love the fact that the trip will be a total surprise for the kids. I am thinking about doing the same thing. I think at first they will think you are kidding and then they will be on cloud 9! Carolyn
