Where's your worst resort stay...

No problems, except for the one time at CBR where we were accidentally checked into someone else's room. However, that has happened at non-Disney hotels, too.

:rotfl: WHEW!! :rotfl2: I hope the occupants were OUT OF THE ROOM at the time!! LOL. :flower: Glad to hear this was the WORST!! A lot of foks would have FLIPPED their LID over this one. Nice to know you did not permit this incident to ruin your stay. :sunny: ;)

Buzz2001~Nice to read (your post) and know I'm not alone! :cloud9:

A few years ago we stayed at OKW for 3 nights during a quick trip. The first night we noticed the AC wasnt cooling the room, we hadnt gotten in until the evening so we assumed it had been turned down after housekeeping finished. After about an hour of waiting it became apparent that it wasnt going to work. we called the front desk and they said they would send engineering. After waiting an hour I jumped in the shower because it was getting late and we had early plans. An older man showed up while I was in the shower (of course) and proceeded to tell my wife we had froze it up because we had it set too low (impossible because it never got cold) by that time it was late and we just left the fans on and opened the patio door (2nd floor) not perfect but it was getting too late to mess with and we were tired.
On the way out the next AM we stopped at front desk and related our ongoing problem. We had plans for the parks that day but would be returning for dinner at the room. Got back at 5 and found the room still not fixed and the temp and humidity much higher than the day before. I called engineering again and asked what was the problem ? they said cant fix today have to run new lines from outside etc etc. I asked what was I supposed to do since this was unacceptable. the very rude woman in engineering advised that I should turn on fans and open patio door, no offer of other room or any other help other than live with it.
We went back to front desk explained problem and said we would be going out for dinner and be back in 1-2 hrs and would check back in then to find out where they had moved our things. We came back and checked at front desk and NOTHING had been done, they were tightly booked. I firmly but politely told them I was going to get another room and they miraculously found one. Off we went to our new room which was occupied by people who stayed because their flight was cancelled and figured no one else would need the room. Back to the front desk and another room. finally after wasting 4 hrs that day we got a cool room.
I called the front desk the next AM and related the lengthy story to the manager, within 5 mins the head of engineering was calling asking if he could come and speak with us. He showed up 10 mins later and asked me to relate the events. I explained the situation to him and told him that we felt like we got passed around and that no one took the control of the situation, we felt like they were waitng for us to just say okay and accept what we had already clearly said was unacceptable. The manager was very apologetic and said that he had been at an inservice training that day and had left his #2 in charge. We never asked for anything and that really wasnt my intent, I just wanted them to know that we realize that problems arise but its wasnt handled in the Disney fashion. We ended up having a very pleasant conversation and talked about our experiences at WDW and OKW.
He ended up comp us a dinner for 4 at Oilvias and took $100 off our charge, roughly the value of the day we spent messing with.

My Worst Stay was at WL!

I have a whole thread about it called "Miserable Stay at WL". Funny, the complaints I had were about the same as those on this thread. However, I was flammed so bad from "WL Lovers" that the mods had to close the thread. Wonder why those who complain about WL here don't receive the same treatment?

vhoffman, I hear ya loud and clear. LoL When we returned from WL I too got flammed for not having any magic to write about. I got so upset that I never spoke of it again until this thread. LoL

Since I haven't been as many times...I don't really have any complaints. POFQ was not my favorite....not bad....just not "magical".

I am enjoying this thread as I personally think customer service has gone downhill in the last several years and I am seeing many circumstances and how people have handled them....taking notes just in case!

Thanks!

Sorry..this is long..I got a little excited.

Up until this last trip..I didn't have a "worst" stay. We've ALWAYS stayed at POFQ and LOVED it. I still have NO complaints about it. However, this time I decided that we would try a "value" resort. I've had tons of people ask me.."Why do you insist on staying at a moderate resort..they are the same as the value resorts"....(MAN were they wrong) I decided to book ASMo for our last night at WDW since we just really needed a place to sleep before the long drive home on Monday. We spent our day at MGM and Mk. Checked into ASMo around 11pm. I was VERY optomistic about the resort. First thing I didn't like though..I waited in a LONG line to get checked in and no one that worked their really seemed to care. 30 mins in line I finally get to someone to check me in. As the CM is checking us in (DH and DS were in the car..DS who is 2 1/2 was asleep.) he giggled and said "I see you need bed rails". I smiled and said yes, and explained that I have a two year old that will be sleeping by himself in one of the double beds and I feel more comfortable with him having them. He (the CM) giggled again and said so YOU need them. I was like "what??" :confused3 I just ignored him. (with a smile on my face though..I'm still very optomistic) He told me we were in the fantasia building...room 5703. 1st floor. Well..I didn't care where we were...I just wanted to get some sleep..I figured we would check the resort out tomorrow a little before we left. Much to our dismay...we found our room. Right behind a big broom stick right beside...THE POOL!! The pool which had about 20 screaming children in it at almost midnight. Again..still optomistic...I'm sure we can't hear them from inside the room..or so I thought We stepped into our room and were immediately disappointed. #1 It was HOT and stuffy in the room. I checked the air conditioning and it was set on 40 degrees!!!! It was more like 75-80. #2 It was a KING size bed...not the 2 double beds that I had asked for. (Have you tried sleeping with a 2 1/2 year old lately??) #3...the bathroom...what were they thinking when they made a shower with nothing to hold the water from going all over the floor?? DH said "oh..the floor is slanted..it will be fine. Once we took a shower..it was a different story. Sure the floor is SLIGHTLY slanted...but not enough to keep from flooding the entire bathroom everytime you took a shower. It was just ridiculous. #4 The toliet felt as if it were going to topple over when you sat on it. It was like someone forgot to bolt it down. I was FURIOUS!!!! to top it all of #5..I think the walls were made of Paper. We could hear every conversation going on outside, in the rooms around us, every toliet flushing. It was soooo loud. We were so tired and all I really wanted was a good nights sleep. DH calmed me down and kept me from calling the front desk to complain. DS was already asleep and DH felt the room was good enough for what we needed it for...sleep. I was exhausted...and I did manage to fall asleep quickly. HOwever About 1 1/2 hours after I fell asleep I heard someone knocking at the door...I looked out the peep hole and saw that they were delivering the bed rails?????!!!! :confused3 WHAT??? Ummm...I don't think my DH and I will fall off the king sized bed. Plus it's past 2am...ARGH!!
Then around 7am I heard ANOTHER knock at the door and someone saying "housekeeping". I went to the door (yes the privacy card was in the door) and she said "are you checking out today??" I said "yes" and she said Ok..and walked away. :confused3 I continued to hear her going to EVERY other room and saying "housekeeping:"...It was very annoying. but yet again I fell back to sleep. Around 9am ANOTHER knock at the door. "housekeeping"...This time I tried to ignore them..but she just kept knocking. (same lady as earlier) Finally I went to the door and she asked me the SAME question. "are you checking out today?" I told her yes and that she was just here 2 hours ago. She nodded and said "oh yes..you are right.": I asked her what time it was and she said 9:10. I asked her if there was a reason I was being bothered about checking out when checkout wasnt' until 11am? She didn't say a word..but just walked away. I had enough. I went and flooded out the BR yet again by taking a shower and then woke DH and DS up and told them..LETS GET OUT OF HERE!!!! :moped: I did let the CM know when I was checking out that I wasn't happy and why I wasn't happy. She said "oh..I'm sorry to hear that. Have a safe trip." WHATEVER!!!  I can promise you that I will NEVER NEVER stay in a value resort again. I know their are "deluxe snobs"...WEll just call me a "moderate snob"... :cutie: :worship:

I've just never experienced a terrible stay at WDW. Perhaps if I DID, I would follow the proper process and complain accordingly. Yet, everything always seems to run smoothly. Perhaps I'm just easy to please, or expect nothing (and therefore am always surprised!). :wizard: I feel deeply for those whom have posted such horrendous accounts of nightmarish stays at Disney resorts. I hope they have received remuneration (to their satisfaction) where deserved. I do not overlook problems, but tend to "go with the flow" and avoid permitting any "minor" glitches to ruin my experience. Some things in life are bound to happen, we're all only human. I'm not expecting anyone else to share my disposition. But, everyone's entitled to their opinion. And, that is my .02 for this topic! :confused3

Dreamflight, sweetie, now YOU are someone I would like to travel with!! princess: Oftentimes the "bad experiences" are more telling of the guest than the service, and that is my opinion after reading hundreds of trip reports on various websites over the last few years. I agree there are sometimes awful trips that happen anywhere from Disney to the Four Seasons, but more often there seems to be a loss of perspective about vacation and what to expect (or not to!). When there is a lot of money being spent it appears that some guests keep an eye out for what they can be compensated for. It's all in how you look at it. For me, it makes a trip much more negative if I'm worried about how a CMs attitude seems to be coming across, for example. Then again, there are definitely times when service is awry and it's not so much a matter of perspective (such as two people getting checked into the same room--yikes!). Overall, I think the "positive attitude folks" will always have the better vacations....regardless of money spent or extent of Disney love :sunny:

To answer the OP, my worst experience was in AKL concierge, when there was some computer glitch that seemed to play havoc with our reservation througout our stay (we were checked out early, PSs and ressies lost, taken off housekeeping and turndown service lists, etc.). I guess I felt a little more sensitive in concierge because I'd booked it for my birthday--but hey, we are giving them another shot and going again this year. I'm sure it was a one time thing....I didn't complain at the time. I'm sure I would if it was like that again, but I seriously doubt it would be. Honestly, I travel quite a bit, usually in the luxury hotel lines for work, and find Disney's service quite superior. I've rarely had any problems and have stayed at nearly all of the Deluxes and half of the mods. I do believe awful hotel stays should be accounted for by the respective hotel, but there are many variables that constitute what is awful that includes guest disposition, CMs disposition, compatibility of the two, housekeeper's health for that week, etc. etc. etc. I like to see the bad experiences on here for the sake of seeing others' perspectives, but not all bad reports signal actual bad service, IMHO. And honestly, I'd love to see those that are just happy to be alive and on vacation...that doesn't mean you're a Disney fanatic, but clearly a happier person.

You have to wonder about the last guests who stayed in the room when you get one like this. They didn't even realize they were missing a slipper? What did they do in the room and how bad did it look BEFORE the housekeepers cleaned it up?

Or you have to wonder how long that slipper sat there - lol! :confused3

Think I'll just sleep in the car. :earsboy:

I realized reading this thread that I've never seen anyone mention what follows.

When WDW opened there was the MK, Poly, Contemporary and FW ( and the Golf Resort, although I think it opened a bit later).

Now: 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, DTD, Mini golf, and 20+ resorts, many with thousands of rooms.

When they first opened, they could pick and choose from job applicants, and take only the best. That was the case at DL for decades. But the staffing needs have skyrocketed now, and when you have to hire, what is it, 55,000 people? Well, you're going to get stuck with some clunkers, especially when you consider that many of these jobs are low paying.

So there is an explanation for those that have been going for years, and have noticed a slide. That is not an excuse, but it is likely a reason in many cases. Don't get me wrong, though, if I encounter some of the things described here, I will react. Once got a refund after the fact from a Hilton in San Jose, and can call upon those skills at a moments notice if needed.

Cheers.

I have only been to DW 3 times so far and I guess I've been lucky because I have never had a bad experience yet. Maybe I'm just so thrilled to be able to talk my DH into one more trip that I refuse to look on anything as a negative. Okay roaches would probably change my mind. LOL Now I just need to knock on wood for our next vacation there in July at the AKL. :rotfl:

What, specifically, are those skills you refer to? Being polite, but firm? Being just a bit pushier than that?

Please, do elaborate...

Thanks!

I am about as "go with the flow" as they get. I smile through being upset and try to understand that things happen and yes, we are human. HOwever, the things I experienced at ASMo were just ridiculous. I TRIED my best to see the bright side, I promise. What I can't stand to see in WDW...People who constantly complain about EVERYTHING...the prices...the crowds...the heat...ummm didn't you know about this before you came??? I LOVE WDW and I LOVE vacation. That's all I wanted to say! :)

At WDW but not a Disney hotel....our last trip to SOG when the housekeeper skipped our room one day. When I called to tell the front desk the response I got was that housekeeping was just too busy. That one left me totally speechless!

Our worst stay was also at WL in a Jr. Suite. There were six of us with a child under 3. There was plenty of room for sleeping but absolutely no place to put our clothes. Another armoire is not a set of drawers! We were living out of our suitcases, I hated the flourescent light bulbs, the fan in the bathroom was ineffective causing the mirror to steam up everytime the bathroom door was opened. I hated the long corridors. I actually liked Port Orleans better.

ASMusic one time. They completely skipped our room as far as cleaning it. After a long hot day at the parks we came back to a room with beds unmade, no trash empty, no clean towels or nothing. This was like 8:00 at night. Called front-desk to see if we could just get some clean towels so we could take showers. Took over an hour and me finally going to a linen closet I just happened to find, to get some towels.

For me it was the GF. Checked in, went to room and it hadn't been cleaned. Opened food laying around, articles of clothing left behind, etc. Went to front desk told them, did move us to another room but that room wasn't that clean either. The whole resort wasn't very clean. Not the worst thing that could happen, but this resort was a big disappointment for us.

I know how the WL people who have a had a bad expereince feel, but my experience was not there, it was at BCV. Worse stay ever, so many mix ups and outright lies from the front desk staff that I have not had the desire to stay there again. I can't even imagine where to begin--checked in around 5:00 front desk said all requests have been met but you'll need to wait a bit since housekeeping is putting the finishing touches on your room. No biggie, especially if all requests were met. Back to the desk at 6:00, afterall it was just finishing touches. That room is unavailable but here's another room--does it meet any of my request? Yes all of them. Couldn't have been further from the truth--none of them had been met. Upon reaching the room it is filled with comp. goodies --plush, food try, balloon, pins, frige fully stocked with beverages. Definately not my room. Call down--nope it's your room but I'll send a manager up. About an hour later manager calls in an accusatory tone "are there things in your room you know don't belong to you?" Umm, yes I called and they said you'd be right up to take care of that. Said she' be up to get the "stuff", another hour later she shows up. Now she is just rude to my kids--DD 8 at the time said somthing along the lines of wow these must be really special people to get all of this from Mickey. Manager says to my DD something sarcastic that made her feel really badly as though Mickey was not feeling my DD was special--can't remember the exact words, but it was harsh. She collected allthe "stuff" and left, not any apology or anything. I went to use the bathroom and found dark brown stains around the lightswitch--I cleaned figuring it would take hours before anyone else would get to it. Not a great stay and I don't care how nice the pool is it won't make up for poor experiences. The rest of the vacation was at OKW,POP and AKL (we like to resort Hop and let the kids be involved int eh pick) and we had great experiences. Took it witha grain of salt--one disaster in the midst of 10+ vacations not sooo bad.
I have always had great service and attention at WL (knock on wood). The absolute worse was off site on I-Drive--just a place to crash for the night--NASTY--the maid even left an envelope for her tip--pre licked and carefully re-opened--YUCKKY. Spider in the tub--ewww ( I know it was just a spider not really a big deal, but yuck) ;)

ANYTIME! The FEELING is mutual~! Writers...what to DO with the lot of us?!? :confused3

I'm not in any way/shape/form describing the actions/characteristics of any DISers on this forum with the following sentence. BUT, I have witnessed folks at Disney, with the plastered-on permanent SCOWEL...("BASS-MOUTH"), whom complain about EVERY SINGLE THING in the course of 24 hours! I just do not have such time to waste in my world. Life...is too short to spend it being miserable, and each sacred day on this planet is a blessing...a gift. Just ask anyone at the END of theirs. A DAY spent complaining, is a DAY of LIFE "WASTED" (IMHO).

I wish everyone traveling to WDW a MEMORABLE and TROUBLE-FREE stay~!! :cloud9:

I am not a chronic complainer by ANY stretch, but after dealing very carefully with Special Services for several months, this trip really ticked me off.

Sorry, for those who have already read about this...my story is the first post.

I had some problems with Housekeeping at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I wrote about it in a thread, but its not worth going over again. I did write a letter to the General Manager of the AKL. That was 4 weeks ago. I haven't gotten a reply yet.
