Let me start by saying that we love Coral Reef! Our first visit was last September for our twins 7th b-day. We did not order desserts as we had ordered a cake. CR did a great job on the cake and service was excellent. When we started planning our spring break trip, CR was on the top of our list, and this time, I would get my much coveted Chocolate Wave. Here is what I got:

Ok, this is not chocolatey or wavy. This couldn't possibly be the Chocolate Wave that I have craved for the past 6 months. I asked our server if he was sure he brought the right thing. He giggled a bit and said yes, that's the Chocolate Wave; we just changed our menu two weeks ago and it no longer comes with ice cream; we change our menu every 6 months. (You'd think Disney could have a chocolalic database and send us a memo) But I'm still thinking, where is the "wave?" It was nothing more than an upside down unchocolatey tasting cupcake with some oozey stuff inside. Blah! I only took two bites. If I leave behind a dessert, it must not be good. DH on the other hand, ordered a new addition to the menu: Chocolate Mousse. Can I have a do-over?

I was dissappointed, I guess because I put too much faith in one dessert. BUT, we still love CR and will return. Everything else was wonderful!!! Our service was some of the best we had on our trip. The huge turtle (we call him Crush) showed up on cue, and the other food was good. Our steaks were not as good as Le Cellier, but still good.

As for our Sept trip, that was great as well. We had two divers with b-day signs, personalized menus, and a very detailed cake.

How disappointing! Isn't this the cake with the Grand Marnierc center? Could you taste it? I was hoping to order this during our April-May trip. Guess not.

You've got to be kidding me....I sure hope your waiter was wrong. We have ADRs for June and that is one thing I am looking forward to gettting. When we went a couple years ago, I had it and it did have ice cream with a rum sauce that was excellent. I guess when it is time for dessert, I will ask the CM what it is like before ordering, and if it is anything like the one you got, I will probably skip the dessert and just head on over to the French pastry shop and get a chocolate mouse there...which is one of my other favs.

Was the September cake good? We were thinking of ordering a cake for that meal as we too have divers with signs to celebrate our son's adoption anniversary. Did you order the cake from CR or a bakery? Please let me know. Thanks.

Nope, he wasn't wrong. That was the Chocolate Wave. He didn't seem to happy about the change either. I thought about asking for something else, but I didn't. They have added a choc mousse which was pretty tasty.

Yes, the cake was great. The pastry chef at Coral Reef made it. It had gel for the water which I don't care for, but the cake and the icing was good. I told them to just do a fish theme and let them run with it. It was very detailed. I'll ask DH if took a pic.

Thanks for the post. I was looking so forward to it in July.:scared: I guess it's the mousse for me.

Oh man-- that is so disappointing as a fellow chocaholic I would have rated the original chocolate wave as my most fav dessert on my last trip. Total bummer--

I just couldn't imagine that what I had was the same CW everyone was raving about.

me too. I'm planning an ADR there for September just for the darn chocolate wave...I hope the menu changes by then.

I'm thinking that they will have to change it back if enough people complain.

Had the Wave just a week ago and it was very very yummy! Like a Chocolate Lava cake with warm chocolate oozing out of the middle - absolutely excellent. As others have said, the ice cream has been eliminated so we just ordered (and paid for) an extra scoop of ice cream. No problem at all. Loved the Cake just as it was.
