hey Will, did i ever tell you about the grand prix races i was at?
in detroit....i don't think they have formula 1 racing in detroit anymore, but for a few years they did....right down on the waterfront..
this was back in the days of Ayrton Senna (whom i was lucky enough to meet - a really nice guy...yeah , i know...i sound like a groupie

)....
i have to admit that when i was first invited, i poohpoohed the whole idea....
i wasn't a racing fan at all...
i had never ever been to a car race and thought the whole thing was stupid....
but i went because it was this big VIP event and all...so i really couldn't refuse....
i had no idea at all what to expect....
my god...the sound of those engines was totally incredible.....amazing....
it was funny, because once the race started, i refused to leave the grandstands....
i was in the VIP area - the sound when the race first begins is beyond description...all those engines at once...right there...where the people are sitting....right there....a sound that surrounds you...goes right through you....no words could ever describe what it is that you feel at the beginning of that race........
anyway, we were all invited to go back to the special trailers with drinks etc (where we had met some of the drivers before the race).....
but i wouldn't go back...i wanted to watch the race....the cars just took my breath away....
so the next year when i was invited again, i was VERY happy to be able to attend...
but that was it...only twice (after that i was living on the other side of the ocean and then i think they stopped running the formula 1 cars in detroit)..
anyway....that was when detroit was still detroit.....
